FBX Converter

Convert FBX files into any popular 3D format, or turn another 3D file into FBX. Everything runs in your browser, so there is no upload, no login, and no software to install.

What You Get with Meshy's 3D Model Converter

All Major 3D Formats

Convert between OBJ, FBX, STL, GLB, GLTF, USDZ, 3MF, PLY and more — the format set that covers games, printing, AR/VR and product visualization pipelines.

Geometry & Texture Fidelity

Meshes keep their geometry, normals, UVs and material colors through conversion. GLB and GLTF round-trips preserve textures so your asset looks the same in every engine.

No Install, No Signup

Everything runs in the browser. Upload a model, pick a target format, download the result — no software, no account, no upload queue.

About the FBX File Format

The .fbx file format was created by Kaydara for its Filmbox motion-capture software and has been owned by Autodesk since 2006. FBX is a full scene container: meshes, materials, textures, cameras, lights, skeletal rigs, and animation curves all travel in one file, which is why it remains the working interchange format between Maya, 3ds Max, Unity, and Unreal. The specification is proprietary, so most non-Autodesk tools, including this converter, implement a documented subset of it.

What Survives Conversion to FBX

Every 3D format carries a different slice of a scene. This is exactly what Meshy's converter writes into a FBX file, and what it leaves behind.

Everything except motion survives. Meshy's FBX writer produces binary FBX 7.4 with textures embedded in the file, covering static meshes, UVs, vertex colors, node hierarchy, and materials, but it does not write skinning weights or animation curves. Convert an animated model to GLB instead when the motion matters.

Who Converts 3D Models with Meshy?

3D Printing Hobbyists

Turn game rips, downloaded models, or CAD exports into STL for your slicer — swap FBX to STL without learning a DCC tool.

Game Developers

Convert assets between engine-friendly formats: OBJ to GLB for web builds, FBX to GLTF for runtime loading, without breaking materials.

E-commerce & Product Teams

Prepare product models for 3D viewers on storefronts — GLB and USDZ cover every major platform's viewer format.

Architects & Visualizers

Bring CAD and SketchUp models into real-time renderers and AR previews by converting to the formats your toolchain accepts.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Meshy's FBX writer emits static meshes, materials, node hierarchy, and embedded textures, but no skinning weights and no animation curves. If your model is animated, convert it to GLB instead, which carries the clips.

Yes. The converter writes binary FBX 7.4 using the same container layout Blender's own FBX exporter produces, and textures are embedded in the file, so a downloaded .fbx opens on its own in Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, Unity, and Unreal.

Use FBX when your pipeline already expects it, since Unity and Unreal both treat it as the default mesh interchange. Use GLB when animation has to survive this converter, or when the model is headed for the web. Both keep UVs, materials, and embedded textures.
