Ben Decker liked thisBen Decker liked thisA little personal news! I’m stepping away from full-time work. We’ve been planning for this moment for a while, and now is the right time. Three kids are still at home, one is in college playing a sport, and we’re in a golden stretch of family life I want to be locked in on. That means more kids’ sports, more weekday Chipotle, and hopefully not too much bird watching or monitoring neighborhood construction. If we’re connected here, we’ve probably worked together somewhere along the way. That’s the part I’m going to miss. I’ll still check LinkedIn from time to time, so if you ever need anything, hit me up. And if you suddenly find yourself looking for a 12U hockey game or a college pole vault meet, I’ve definitely got you covered there!

Ben Decker liked thisBen Decker liked thisIt’s been almost three months since I joined Blizzard Entertainment, and honestly, it still feels a bit surreal. I get to wake up every day and work on games that mean so much to millions of players around the world. Like many of you, I grew up on Blizzard games. I still laugh thinking about sneaking out to PC cafes in Hong Kong with my brother to play Brood War all night—and getting a well-deserved beatdown from my mom the next morning. When my family moved to Miami, I was in a new country with no friends. Battle.net became my Home. It kept my old friendships alive and helped me build new ones that last to this day. I know so many Blizzard fans share that same deep, personal connection. But nostalgia isn't the only reason I'm here. I joined for what I saw at BlizzCon a couple weeks ago. The energy in that room was electric. Seeing the crowd's reaction to our announcements and feeling the genuine pride across our teams reminded me about that Blizzard magic. The team came together, put the community first, and delivered something really special. I don’t just want to be a fan in the crowd. I want to help build what comes next. I am excited to share that I’ve joined Blizzard as Sr. Director, Head of Business Operations, China. It’s time to take on new risks, keep learning, and step into the unknown again. "My life for Aiur!"

Ben Decker reacted on thisClosing Seeker Entertainment is not the ending I hoped to write, but I'm proud of the story. In a brutal industry climate, our small team built Kinforge: a game players loved, recommended to their friends, and wishlisted by the tens of thousands. We just could not find additional funding needed to finish it. To our investors, our vendors and partners, our players, and our team: thank you. It was an honor. If you're hiring, a few of our incredibly talented teammates are still looking. Please reach out, I'd love to connect you.Ben Decker reacted on thisIt’s with a heavy heart that we have to announce the closure of Seeker Entertainment. Despite an incredible game that resonated with everyone who played it, after more than 1.5 years of dedicated fundraising, we were unable to secure the funds needed to finish Kinforge in the current industry environment. Thank you to everyone who believed in us, and especially our amazing investors. You’re the reason we were even able to give this a shot. While deeply disappointed and sad that it didn’t work out, we’re extremely proud of what we were able to achieve in the time we had. It’s a testament to the power of what a small group of passionate, experienced developers can accomplish when given a chance. Hundreds of playtesters played the Kinforge prototype, giving it a 8.7/10 overall rating and a 9.7/10 when asked whether they’d recommend it to their friends. Extremely high for a game that early in development. Thank you to each and every one of them for their invaluable feedback. Every note made the game stronger. The Kinforge teaser trailer (https://lnkd.in/gGMbVsBi) was viewed by more than 2 million players, generating over 30,000 wishlists. Fun fact: that trailer was created completely in-house on a 2 week notice after learning that we received the 2026 Lightspeed x GamesBeat Game Changers award and would have the opportunity to showcase the game on stage. So what’s next? As you’d expect with the incredible team we had, most of them already found new homes but a couple are looking for new opportunities so if you are aware of any, please send them our way. Michelle K Geng, who came to us from outside the industry and quickly became the heart of the team. She learned under our many other folks experienced in production, shifting from an executive assistant to a producer within a few months. She’s a hardcore gamer that always pushed the design forward, self-assured enough to not be afraid to stand up in meetings, and lit up the room whenever she was around. She’s one of the highest ceiling industry newbies we’ve had the pleasure to work with. It’s rough out there for juniors right now but the industry will be worse if she doesn’t stick with us. And our co-founder and Chief Creative Officer, Travis McGeathy, who’s vision built Kinforge and the Seeker team and who’s experience and discipline kept the team on target, always ensuring Kinforge met our high expectations. Now that his time is freed up after dedicating every waking hour to fundraising, he is looking to the horizon and open to interesting opportunities. Thank you all again for joining us on this journey. This is a small industry. We look forward to seeing you again in the future, whatever that brings.

Ben Decker liked thisBen Decker liked thisEvery man selling you AI has compared it to the atom bomb. Not one of them has compared it to the dynamo, and that is the tell. Sam Altman says the next generation of models will be "sobering for everybody." Musk said AI was a far greater threat than nuclear weapons. That was 2018. Gates lined it up next to nuclear weapons. 2019. Buffett reached for the atomic bomb. 2023. Eight years, one costume, worn every time by the people with the most to gain from your fear. Here is the part that bothers me. Eighteen months ago the doom was the jobs apocalypse. Then it became an IPO liability, and it got walked back in a single cheerful sentence. The fear did not go away. It changed clothes. And you already lived this once. At the end of 1999 we spent roughly $100 billion in the United States hunting down a two-digit bug. Then midnight came and nothing happened. You remember the shrug on January 1. That shrug is the correct response to a man describing his own unreleased software as sobering. The bomb had exactly one job. It ended cities. One function, one physics, one direction, and that direction was down. A dynamo had one job too: it made a new kind of power available to anyone who could run a wire to it. Edison's first station lit about 400 lamps for about 85 customers in a quarter of a square mile. Eighty-five customers. That is what the beginning of an era actually looks like, and it is why the mushroom cloud framing is not a little wrong. It is category wrong. There is a genuinely sober version of this story, and it is not Skynet. It comes with a number I am putting my name on. Twelve sources are cited in the full piece, including the IEEE historical record on Pearl Street, the Royal Institution on Faraday's first generator, and the federal report on what Y2K actually cost. The full breakdown, all sources, and my actual five-year prediction are in the first comment.

Nine years. Zero institutional VC dollars. A customer list that reads like a VC's dream portfolio: Waymo, Anduril, Relativity, K2 Space, and 60% of the Fortune 500. That's SendCutSend's record before this spring, when Sequoia partner Andrew Reed heard about the company, got on a flight from San Francisco to Reno, and was reportedly bending sheet metal on the shop floor about 14 hours later. Founder Jim Belosic's instructions for the visit: wear boots. The backstory is almost too on-brand for a company that cuts custom metal parts: Belosic started SendCutSend in 2018 because he needed tiny laser-cut letters for a steam-powered car he was restoring, and couldn't find anyone to make them. The first real order through the new business was a batch of pickleball keychains. Nine years later, it's a company that 60% of the Fortune 500 relies on for parts they can't get made anywhere else, fast enough. Reed's visit turned into a Series A at a $1.1 billion valuation. This week, about five months on, SendCutSend raised a Series B led by Spark, with CRV, MHS, Sequoia, and Paradigm all participating. New number: $2.1 billion. Belosic isn't using the money to chase growth-at-all-costs. He's using it to fund payroll. "My favorite use of VC dollars is turning it into mortgages, turning it into baby formula, turning it into onesies, turning it into opportunities for our guys to go from a bicycle to a car," he told Fortune. "I love taking VC dollars and putting it directly in the payroll." "There's a difference between a Silicon Valley entrepreneur and an owner," Belosic said. He's clearly decided which one he is. Reed, who's been at Sequoia for over 12 years, called Belosic's run "the ultimate example of suction" -- building a business to nine figures of revenue before a single institutional dollar showed up. That timing is the actual lesson here, more than the metal or the laser cutters. When you raise after you've already proven you don't need the money, you get to negotiate like it. Belosic took VC cash on his terms, for purposes he picked, at a valuation set by people who flew out to him instead of the other way around. The question is, is this still truly "venture" capital, or is it private equity? Sequoia Capital like many VCs is changing their stripes. There are only so many billion dollar valuation AI startups to go around this close to the bubble pop, and they're sitting on too much capital - which has to be invested somewhere.

“Most accelerators had negative value-add for founders.” A recent NBER study looked at roughly 750,000 startups across 329 accelerators and found that most programs underperformed a no-accelerator benchmark!!! And it’s tragic that I don’t find this surprising We’ve been a part of our fair share of accelerators, venture builder programs, cohorts (or whatever fancy name they get) Some accelerators have materially changed Breshna’s trajectory. Others, in hindsight, were probably not worth our time Here’s a checklist of sorts: 💰Does it come with capital? At the bare minimum, does it unlock cash flow! One of the first accelerators I ever joined came with our first check and moved the needle in a massive way for us! Thanks Mark Phillips 🌍Does it unlock a market I actually care about? Many accelerators open doors to different ecosystems (Qatar Development Bank gave us capital and a go to market pathway into Qatar) . Entering a new market cold is hard. A trusted local institution can compress months of outreach into one warm introduction. ⚽️Does it put me closer to a real customer or pilot? We’re currently part of a program connected to one of the largest sports organizations in the world. The value for us is simple: Can this lead to a real use case Because one good pilot can give you revenue, validation, product feedback, a case study and credibility in a new vertical. That is worth a lot more than another workshop. 🤜🏾Are the introductions real? Almost every accelerator promises “access to our network.” That can mean everything. Or absolutely nothing. Blockchain Founders Fund & Aly Madhavji are the gold standard for epic intros! I’ve also seen the other side, where introductions were promised and barely materialized. A network slide is not a network. 💡Am I learning something I can easily learn elsewhere? If the main value is: How to build a pitch deck. How to make a data room. How to define your ICP. How to talk to investors. Most of that is searchable, templated, or one good AI prompt away now. ******* Accelerators can mean travel, mentor calls, workshops, pitch prep, demo days and hours of follow-up. Your company still needs to be built while all of that is happening. A great accelerator can absolutely change a company’s trajectory. But founders should stop treating acceptance itself as the win. The win is what you actually walk away with.

Florida isn’t replacing Silicon Valley. It might be building something Wall Street is underestimating. A Palm Beach venture capital firm just raised $411 million to invest in only 10 startups. And that’s not even the most interesting part. Snowpoint Ventures is betting on dual-use technology: startups building products with both commercial and military applications. The firm also reportedly secured $125 million in financing through a Department of Defense and Small Business Administration initiative. Why does this matter? Because venture capital is becoming increasingly concentrated, and Florida offers a fascinating example. In 2025, Florida startups raised $5.83 billion across 575 deals, a 41% increase in funding despite a 2% decline in deal count. Read that again. More money. Fewer deals. Investors aren’t necessarily funding more innovation. They’re increasingly concentrating capital in fewer companies. Snowpoint is taking that strategy further. Rather than spreading capital across dozens of startups, it’s making 10 highly concentrated bets on technologies tied to national security. The opportunity? Government demand, commercial applications, and potentially enormous barriers to entry. The risk? Defense procurement cycles are long, hardware is expensive, exits are uncertain, and debt introduces another financial obligation. There’s also an important distinction: attracting venture capital firms to Florida isn’t the same as attracting investment into Florida startups. That’s what investors should be watching. The next chapter of venture capital may be less about who has the most startups and more about who controls the capital financing strategically important industries. And Florida is positioning itself to compete. The question isn’t whether Florida can attract money. It’s whether that money can generate returns. #FloridaVC #VentureCapital #SnowpointVentures #DefenseTech #PrivateMarkets

Skipping your studio fundamentals? Prepare to struggle. We developed the 9point8 Collective Foundations program with a simple premise based on years of studio operations. 🏗️ Before a studio scales, raises, or launches publicly, its core assumptions need to be explicit and testable. Why it matters: 🚄 Venture studios accumulate decisions quickly. 🔹 Governance, economics, staffing, venture pacing. Each choice narrows future options. 🛑 When those choices are implicit or borrowed from other models, you lose adaptability without realizing it. Corrections later are possible, but they’re slower, costlier, and more disruptive. Go deeper: Foundations is designed to slow teams down at the right moment. The program focuses on structural clarity: 👉 what kind of studio this is 👉 how it actually creates value, 👉 what success looks like across ventures 👉 how decisions get made when tradeoffs appear. What’s been encouraging is the mix of participants. Early-stage teams who want to do this right from the start, but also more established studios who recognize the drag that unclear foundations have already introduced. Monthly cohorts are filling up and the signal is clear: This work is uncomfortable, but critical. If you’ve built, or are building, a studio, when did you realize foundations mattered more than speed? And comment or DM for the link to our sign-up page

Some people are saying: “AI makes code cheap, so new software won’t be defensible.” I think that misses the exciting bit. We’re getting new builder archetypes. Operators and creators can build now. Less “ticket submitted,” more “I built the first version myself.” And engineers don’t become less important. Their job elevates. Less boilerplate, more building systems that can actually run: safe, reliable, rights-aware, governable. That’s the shift: code gets cheap, judgment gets expensive. What new experience can we finally build now that we couldn’t before? Full article link in the first comment below 👇 #founders #startups #MediaTech

AI Startups Face a Harsh Reality: Vibe Coding Makes Innovation Easy to Copy A growing chorus of founders is sounding the alarm on a paradox in the AI boom: while generative tools make it easier than ever to build software, they also make it nearly impossible to defend an original idea. Base44 founder Maor Shlomo, whose “vibe coding” startup sold to Wix for more than $80 million, warns that AI-driven development has collapsed traditional barriers to competition. The Copycat Problem in the AI Era • Shlomo notes that any new feature his team built could be replicated by competitors within weeks because AI dramatically lowers development friction. • He admits that 90 percent of Base44’s code was written by AI, and he personally stopped writing front-end code months before the acquisition. • OpenAI cofounder Andrej Karpathy, who coined “vibe coding,” reinforces the trend: modern AI lets developers “see stuff, say stuff, run stuff, and copy-paste stuff,” producing functional software with minimal effort. The Hard Part Isn’t Coding—It’s Building Real Platforms • While AI accelerates prototyping, Shlomo emphasizes that the real challenge lies in creating robust, scalable infrastructure that supports complex, real-world use cases. • This gap between rapid idea generation and the slow grind of product-market fit exposes weak startups, even as it fuels investor frenzy. • The disappearance of “intelligence scarcity” means differentiation depends less on code and more on distribution, trust, data moats, and operational excellence. Why This Matters The AI economy is entering a phase where creativity is abundant, but defensibility is scarce. Startups that rely on novelty alone are at risk of being outpaced by fast-followers equipped with the same tools. As vibe coding becomes universal, the competitive edge shifts to execution quality, proprietary data, enterprise relationships, and durable infrastructure. In this new landscape, the winners will not be those who build first, but those who build what others cannot easily reproduce. I share daily insights with 34,000+ followers across defense, tech, and policy. If this topic resonates, I invite you to connect and continue the conversation. Keith King https://lnkd.in/gHPvUttw
