From the wood boardwalk that leads to its front doors to the weathered steel of its facade to the rough-hewn timber beams inside, there’s an unmistakable postindustrial feel to the new Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music.⁠ ⁠ Naturally, the center is on the New Jersey shore near his hometown. It is located in West Long Branch on the campus of Monmouth University, where Springsteen played many of his earliest shows. It also sits just four blocks from where The Boss wrote his 1975 masterpiece “Born to Run.”⁠ ⁠ The idea for the center came from Bob Santelli, a longtime Rolling Stone journalist who has been writing about Springsteen since 1973. In Springsteen’s music he saw an opportunity to explore a deep connection between the art and the place it’s from.⁠ ⁠ Santelli reached out to Springsteen to ask if he’d be interested in creating a museum. I'm still not over Mexico's historic win against Ecuador yesterday—so much so that the first thing I did when stepping out of my apartment this morning was stop by the Adidas store to try and score an extra Mexico jersey. (I already have two but at the rate we are going, my laundry schedule can't keep up with my team). Just two minutes before the store opens, five other Mexicans were also in line, to which we vowed to split up in the store and scream out when we found the Mexico section to make our morning shopping spree more efficient. I ended up opting for a 2000s vintage inspired green jersey, but seeing so many options got me thinking about one of my favorite stories last week.
