Jennifer Tyson shared thishttps://lnkd.in/g3tjPE9f What an inspiring article and company: “My overwhelming feeling after spending time at turbopuffer is that this company is built on real stuff. Revenue from paying customers. Technical problems that require focus and expertise to solve. A cap table that reflects the people doing the work. Customers that the team is excited to serve and learn from. Team chemistry. A talent philosophy that wants people to find their strengths. Care for your colleagues inside and outside of work. A pace you can spend your life working at.”

Jennifer Tyson shared thisIn 2002, I joined Apple when people were still wondering whether the company would survive. Almost a decade later, I had the privilege of helping launch iCloud to millions of customers around the world. In 2015, I joined a little-known PropTech startup called HappyCo that was working out of the back room of a gym, where a small team believed we could build something much bigger than ourselves. Over the next 8½ years, I helped that company grow from an ambitious startup into a category leader, serving first as its marketing leader and later as COO. Some of my favorite memories from those years weren't just the milestones—they were the people. Building the first Happy Summit alongside incredible customers and partners like Steve Boyack, Heidi Turner, Alex Cuenca, Everett Lynn, Melissa Pasquale, Brent Steiner, and Alana Millstein. Watching that community grow year after year. Seeing ideas become products, partnerships become friendships, and colleagues become lifelong friends. Over the past two years, while advising AI companies, SaaS startups, and IT services firms, I realized something: the challenge was almost always the same. The business had evolved. The story hadn't. That's the work I love—helping companies uncover what makes them different, tell that story with clarity, and turn strategy into execution. Today, I'm excited to officially put a name to the work I've loved doing all along: Jennifer Tyson Consulting. If you're building something exciting — or know a company whose story hasn't caught up to who they've become — I'd love to talk. → https://jennifertyson.com/ None of this happened alone. I'm grateful to the colleagues, customers, partners, mentors, and friends who've challenged me, trusted me, opened doors, and believed in me over the past 25 years. You've shaped how I lead, how I think, and why I'm so excited for this next chapter. I'm especially grateful to Alessandra Ghini, who believed in me early and shaped so much of what I know about marketing, leadership, and building brands. And to so many others who've been part of the journey — I've tagged you below. Thank you. 🙏

Jennifer Tyson reposted thisJennifer Tyson reposted thisFifteen years ago today, Steve Jobs took the stage at WWDC 2011 and introduced iCloud. I was a product leader on the team that built it. Creating a zero-to-one product in close collaboration with Steve and our small team was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It was also Steve's last product launch, which made it bittersweet and all the more precious. But iCloud wasn't inevitable. Inside Apple, there was real skepticism: What do we need a cloud for? Hardware is the business. Leave services to Google and Yahoo. We were only four years into the iPhone era, and we had to earn permission to do iCloud. That started with a few of us building Find My iPhone. It turned out to be a hit. Steve saw the magic in a delightful experience powered by the cloud, and he decided Apple was ready to do services in a big way. In his keynote, he said iCloud would "move the center of your digital life into the cloud." It was a huge shift for Apple. What followed over the next decade was Apple Maps, Apple Pay, Apple Music, Apple TV, Apple Fitness: a services business Apple might never have built without that first big bet on the cloud. Going first is hard. Fifteen years on, iCloud is still part of the Apple magic. Grateful the team and I got to build it with Steve. And *so* fortunate to work with amazing teammates that made even the hard parts fun! But with every transformation comes turbulence 🌪️. Rapid innovation brings not just upside, but complexity. How do we manage the human side of exponential change? Jennifer Tyson shared thisThis HubSpot data enrichment feature should have really been maintained and grandfathered in for loyal long-standing customers. I hope they do the right thing and fix this to restore customer trust and advocacy.Jennifer Tyson shared this🚨 HubSpot has pulled the plug on HubSpot Insights, leaving company records without basic enriched data for high end paying customers 🚨 What’s frustrating? They still display that data right next to the now-empty fields—but no longer populate it. (See below!) This is one of the most trust-undermining, short-sighted feature removals I’ve seen. I spoke with my team at HubSpot, but they were powerless. Every time I open a company record, it feels like a punch in the face. I made a strategic decision to go all-in on HubSpot, attending three INBOUNDs, why partly because of this feature. Today, our basic target customer workflows have completely stopped working. Am I really expected to manually copy and paste data between locations on the company record? A terrible use of time—especially for a CEO of a small business. 🔹 Lost customer trust & loyaly in tatters 🔹 I cant advocate for Hubspot like I have in the past 🔹 Wasted time and an erosion in hubspots value 🔹 Eroded confidence in HubSpot's long-term plans I truly hope the revenue from the new Breeze Enrich feature outweighs the frustration and loss of loyalty among long-time users. Today is a disappointing day. I feel disrespected, and I’m questioning my future with HubSpot. I urge someone at HubSpot with decision-making power to either restore this basic functionality for loyal customers—or at the very least, stop displaying the data in plain sight as an added slap in the face. I welcome any and all conversations to clarify the impact of this poorly implemented change I hope we can restore my long held faith in Hubspot values. Our goal is nothing short of being the best option for scaling modern support for digital health companies. Thanks to the trust of our clients and the hard work of our team, it’s time to take the next step and bring this project international. I could say a million wonderful things about Honduras and why we’re making this move, but I think we’ll just do what we did with Oregon and let the work we do speak for itself. If you’re in the market for help with your patient support or - if you’re just curious about building in rural markets and why it matters - let's talk.

Jennifer Tyson liked thisJennifer Tyson liked thisJason Copeland launched iCloud at Apple and co-invented Find My iPhone. He led edge computer vision at AWS, then co-founded an AI chip company. Before all of that he lived and worked in China and Taiwan, and studied Chinese history at Harvard. He’s bringing two things to the Summit. The first is product management. Everyone is building now. Software, design and product are starting to merge into one job, and Jason has spent twenty years in the role that used to sit between them. He makes the argument that the triad is very much alive. So what does a product manager do when the designer and the engineer are the same person? Jason will explore what is changing and what remains central to being a product manager. The second is China. Most people who talk about China and AI know one side of it. Jason thinks the Cold War story is wrong. The two countries compete in some places and still depend on each other in others. And they’re building different kinds of AI, for different ends. A few spots left. Be quick. October 22–24. Bend, Oregon. Jennifer Tyson liked thisJennifer Tyson liked thisI was in Chicago this weekend watching my sister-in-law run the Chicago Marathon. At the finish line, she looked at us and said, "I couldn’t have done it without you." It was a sweet moment, but the honest truth is that we really didn't do much. We screamed her name until our voices were raw, handed her a couple of water bottles, and shoved some energy gels into her hands at a few designated stops. She was the one putting in the hard work for 26.2 miles. What struck me, though, was how much it mattered to her just knowing where we’d be standing. Running a marathon is a mental battle. When your legs are heavy and everything in you wants to slow down, knowing that your people are waiting for you at mile 15, or mile 20, changes how you keep moving. You aren't running into a void. You're running toward someone who believes you're going to make it. It made me think about how often we underestimate the power of showing up for the people in our lives. We tend to think support has to be a grand gesture or a life-changing piece of advice. Most of the time, it isn't. It's showing up to the thing. It's a quick check-in text. It's standing on a hot sidewalk for hours just to hand someone a water bottle and cheer for ten seconds as they run past. The small things stack up. When someone is in a season where they need to believe in themselves, it makes it a whole lot easier if they know you already do. So show up for your people. Be in their corner, even when all you can offer is a noisy presence and a hand to pass along the extra fuel. It matters more than you think.

Jennifer Tyson liked thisOne Year of JBA Management ❤️ A year ago, we started JBA Management with a vision that went beyond managing properties. We wanted to build a company where people matter. A place where employees feel valued, supported, and empowered to grow. As we celebrate our first anniversary, I'm incredibly grateful for the team that has made this journey possible. Over the last year, we've experienced successes, challenges, long days, and plenty of learning moments. Through it all, our team has shown resilience, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to each other and the communities we serve. The accomplishments we've achieved are not because of one person, but because of a group of people who believe in what were building together. One of the things I'm most proud of isn't the growth we've experienced. Its the culture were creating. A culture built on trust, accountability, teamwork, and genuine care for one another. We believe that when you invest in your people, everything else follows. That philosophy has translated into meaningful results for our clients and communities. Through the hard work of our teams, the properties we manage have experienced NOI growth ranging from 4% to as much as 36%. While those numbers are something to celebrate, they are really the outcome of something much bigger. Talented people who care, take ownership, and show up every day committed to excellence. As we look to the future, our focus remains clear. We will continue investing in our people, strengthening our culture, and creating opportunities for our teams to grow professionally and personally. We know that when our employees succeed, our residents, properties, and partners succeed as well. Together, we'll continue driving operational excellence, increasing Income while lowering expenses, and building long-term value across every community we serve. To every team member who has taken a chance on JBA Management, worked through challenges, celebrated wins, and helped shape our company into what it is today, thank you!! Your hard work, dedication, and belief in our vision mean more than words can express. This first year has laid the foundation, but were only getting started. The future is bright because of the people who make up this organization every day. Here's to Year One, and to continuing to build something special together. Throughout my career, I’ve seen talented people believe that strong performance alone isn’t enough, that getting ahead also requires politics, sabotage, dishonesty and undermining others. That behaviour comes from a scarcity mindset: the belief that opportunities are limited, someone else’s success diminishes your own, and the only way forward is to fight for a bigger piece of the pie. It’s exhausting. It distracts from the work that actually creates lasting impact. I’ve always chosen a different path: an abundance mindset. I’m not in competition with anyone. There is room for all of us to succeed. When we lead with the right intent, consistently add value (via performance) and help the people around us grow, success becomes more sustainable and more meaningful. Faith over fear. Contribution over competition. That’s why I’m enjoying Michelle Gruening This Is Nothing New™ podcast series. Michelle creates space to examine complicated, familiar topics through a fresh lens, and the shift in perspective can be genuinely transformative. If you haven’t discovered the series yet, it’s worth a listen. #onelife #lifeiswhatyoumakeit #makeitcount #Leadership #AbundanceMindset #ExecutiveLeadership #GrowthMindset #FaithOverFear

Positioning, naming, and categories are all over the place in tech right now. Yesterday, I spent a couple of hours reviewing our competitor landscape documentation as we think through how to position and describe the next iteration of our product. Although the documentation was updated a month or so ago, and more recently in some cases, many of the companies listed had completely changed their positioning and even their category in the interim. For a handful of these companies, I struggled to understand what their product even does, let alone what it is or what category you could put it in. And I work in this space. Just imagine what it's like for a potential user. Even those defining AI are struggling to come up with easy-to-understand ways to name features in their products. Does the average person really know what an "artifact" even is Claude? Or a "plugin" ChatGPT? Half the keywords we consider targeting have zero search volume, even though they seem like an intuitive way to describe what AI can do. This presents a huge challenge for everyone marketing and using AI. It's no wonder that companies spend billions on AI then see no benefits, if the words we use to talk about this technology are so non-standardized, unintuitive, and confusing that they become a barrier to usage. It's also no wonder companies start to fall back on lazy (and in some cases really off-putting) metaphors that position AI tools as replacements for human professions, or even human beings themselves, because we have no other easy frame of reference. This is also a really exciting time for product marketers. Someone out there is going to come up with the right wording for this stuff, and define the way we talk about technology for decades to come. What are your suggestions for intuitive names for AI features? And which "fetch" should the industry stop trying to make happen? #AI #Marketing #ProductMarketing #Category #ReginaGeorge #MeanGirls

I don't care if people still think GTM engineering isn't a "real" career path. I work with GTM teams every day who understand how go-to-market actually works at a technical level. And by putting $1M behind GTM Engineer Scholarship Clay proved the role is only growing. So I don't care that some people still think it's a niche thing that won't stick. GTM Engineering is here to STAY!

If you read one business book this year -- it should be this one. I watched the thinking behind "Be a Sequoia, Not a Bonsai" develop over years of client work with Nic Darveau. In meeting after meeting, when teams felt stuck despite being disciplined and well run, Nic consistently surfaced the real issue: they were optimizing for control instead of creating conditions for growth. The constraints weren’t usually the market—they were internal habits that felt responsible but quietly capped ambition. This book reflects those conversations. It’s clear, grounded, and experience-driven, and it offers a powerful reminder that meaningful growth comes from space and trust, not constant pruning.
