City Council
The governing body for the City of Gainesville, the Gainesville City Council consists of a mayor and five councilmembers. They are elected citywide with a majority vote to serve four-year terms. The powers and duties are outlined in the City Charter.

City Manager
The city manager is responsible for implementing the policies and services adopted by the Gainesville City Council. Thirteen departments and 800-plus employees serve on the team to make visions realities in this close-knit community.

Community & Economic Development
The Gainesville Community & Economic Development Department (C&EDD) serves as a liaison between the City of Gainesville and the public, and is comprised of the following four divisions: Building Inspection, Code Enforcement, Housing and Planning. Main Street Gainesville also falls under the C&EDD umbrella.

Fire Department
The Gainesville Fire Department (GFD) is committed to providing the highest level of public safety services for the Gainesville-Hall County community, evidenced by its ISO-Class 1 Fire Insurance Rating. GFD protects lives and property through fire suppression, emergency medical response, disaster management, fire prevention and public education. Additionally, the State of Georgia-issued fire insurance rating allows Gainesville residents and businesses to receive lower insurance premiums and superior service.

The Gainesville Human Resources Department (HR) works closely with all City of Gainesville departments and the public. HR strives to attract and retain a qualified workforce, and to maintain positive employee morale through benefits, services and training opportunities. It also works diligently to provide a safe work environment for all employees, as well as protect public assets from loss.

Gainesville Municipal Court is committed to the fair, transparent and efficient administration of justice – from citation issuance through final disposition and reporting – ensuring accountability and integrity at every stage of the judicial process.
