/ Technology

Our Adobe Commerce Cloud Development Technology Stack.

The Adobe services, vendors and tools we build on for Adobe Commerce Cloud — from Fastly and New Relic to Live Search and App Builder — and what each one does for your store.

Cloud Infrastructure

Adobe Commerce on cloud infrastructure runs on AWS or Microsoft Azure. On the Pro plan, production sits on a dedicated three-node, high-availability cluster where every node serves traffic, with a replicated MariaDB (Galera) database — so one failed server doesn’t take the store down. Adobe can add temporary capacity ahead of a planned peak.

Platform as a Service (PaaS)

We build on Adobe Commerce on cloud infrastructure, Adobe’s managed PaaS, on the Starter or Pro plan. Code moves through Git into integration, staging and production environments, with OpenSearch, RabbitMQ message queues and Redis or Valkey caching set up as managed services. When you’re ready for SaaS, we plan the move to Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service.

Adobe Commerce

The commerce engine: many brands and store views from one Admin, native B2B (company accounts, shared catalogs, negotiable quotes, purchase orders), Page Builder and Content Staging for merchandisers, and GraphQL and REST APIs. We extend it with App Builder, API Mesh and Adobe I/O Events, keeping custom code out of the core so upgrades stay simple.

Performance Tools

New Relic APM, included with Adobe’s cloud plans, shows which page, database query or extension is slowing the store. We pair it with Redis or Valkey caching, tuned indexers and Core Web Vitals checks, and run Adobe’s Upgrade Compatibility Tool before each version jump. Every change is measured before and after, so speed gains are proven, not assumed.

CDN, WAF & Image Optimization

Fastly sits in front of every cloud store: a Varnish-based CDN that caches pages and assets close to shoppers, with built-in DDoS protection and origin cloaking that blocks direct access to your servers. Adobe’s managed Fastly WAF filters malicious traffic on production, and Fastly Image Optimization converts images to WebP and resizes product images at the edge.

Search & Personalization

Live Search, included in the Adobe Commerce license, replaces default search with AI-driven ranking, search-as-you-type, synonyms and boost-or-bury merchandising rules. Product Recommendations uses Adobe AI trained on anonymized shopper behavior to suggest the right products, both fed by Catalog Service. Where these services aren’t used, OpenSearch powers native catalog search.

Adobe Commerce agency FAQs.

What is Adobe Commerce Cloud?

Adobe Commerce Cloud usually means Adobe Commerce on cloud infrastructure: Adobe’s enterprise ecommerce platform, the commercial edition of Magento, hosted and managed by Adobe as a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) on AWS or Microsoft Azure. It comes in two plans, Starter and Pro, and both include Fastly CDN, image optimization, a web application firewall on production and New Relic monitoring. Adobe also offers Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service (ACCS), a fully managed SaaS version that Adobe upgrades automatically. Either way, you get one platform for B2C and B2B selling, multiple brands and storefronts, and catalog, order and customer management.

What benefit do businesses get with using Adobe Commerce?

The main benefit is how much ships in the box. Native B2B, multi-store and multi-currency support, Page Builder for content, Live Search and AI-driven Product Recommendations come with the platform rather than as bolt-ons. On cloud infrastructure, Adobe also runs the hosting stack — Fastly CDN and WAF, New Relic monitoring and, on the Pro plan, a three-node high-availability production cluster — so your team spends its time on selling instead of servers. That combination lets a business add brands, markets and B2B channels without changing platforms.

What is the cost of developing an eCommerce website on Adobe Commerce?

Two costs add up: the Adobe Commerce license and the build. Adobe prices the license through a custom quote tied to factors such as your annual gross merchandise value and average order value, and the deployment you choose — Starter or Pro on cloud infrastructure, or Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service — affects it. The build cost depends on the storefront approach, the number of integrations, B2B requirements, data migration and custom features. Consult with our Adobe Commerce Development Company experts for a tailored quote, scoped in discovery before any code is written.

Can Adobe Commerce help to manage the end-to-end of my online store?

Yes. From one Admin you manage the catalog and inventory, orders, invoices, shipments and returns, customer accounts and segments, promotions and price rules, and content through Page Builder. Content Staging lets you schedule a campaign’s products, CMS pages and price rules so they switch on and off automatically. The multi-store hierarchy covers several brands and markets, and the GraphQL and REST APIs connect the parts your ERP, PIM or warehouse system still own.

How is Adobe Commerce using innovative technologies in eCommerce business?

AI is built into Adobe’s commerce services. Live Search uses AI to re-rank results and adjust filters based on what each shopper does in their session, and Product Recommendations uses Adobe AI trained on aggregated, anonymized shopper behavior and catalog data to serve nine types of recommendations, from trending items to similar products. Storefronts built on Edge Delivery Services are designed for very fast page loads, and App Builder runs custom logic as serverless apps outside the core. For moves to SaaS, Adobe’s Commerce Developer Agent helps assess and modernize existing customizations.

What is the process of Adobe Commerce Development?

The Adobe Commerce Development process runs through planning, design, development, testing and deployment. Planning settles the architecture: PaaS or SaaS, a Luma theme, a headless front end or an Edge Delivery Services storefront, and which integrations are needed. Developers work in Adobe Commerce cloud integration environments, push code through Git, and verify every release in staging, which mirrors production’s services, before it goes live. The process is iterative and tailored to the specific business requirements of each eCommerce project.

What does an Adobe Commerce agency do?

An Adobe Commerce agency plans, builds and runs your store on the platform. Our Adobe Commerce services cover discovery and architecture, storefront build, ERP and PIM integration, migration, performance work and ongoing support. We also set up the Adobe services around the core — Fastly, New Relic, Live Search, Product Recommendations and App Builder — so they are configured for your store rather than left at defaults. One team stays accountable from strategy through to the release after launch.

How do you scope an Adobe Commerce build?

We start with your catalog, your order volumes and the systems already in place. From there we choose the deployment (Adobe Commerce on cloud infrastructure Starter or Pro, or Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service), the storefront approach and the integration pattern, and check whether your existing extensions and customizations fit. That discovery turns into Adobe Commerce development solutions with a named architecture, a release plan, the resources it needs and a budget envelope you can hold us to before any code is written.

Can you rebuild an existing ecommerce store?

Yes. Replatforming an existing ecommerce store onto Adobe Commerce is one of the most common reasons teams call us. Catalog, customers, orders and content move across, and URLs are mapped with 301 redirects so search equity survives. For Magento 1 stores, Adobe’s Data Migration Tool moves settings and data, then keeps copying new orders and customers until cutover. The old store stays live until the new one is proven.

What ecommerce solutions do you build on Adobe?

B2C storefronts, B2B portals, D2C launches, marketplaces and headless front ends. Depending on the brief, that means a Luma-based theme, a headless storefront over GraphQL, or an Adobe Commerce storefront on Edge Delivery Services, with the B2B module, Live Search and Product Recommendations switched on where they add value. The ecommerce solutions differ, but the spine is the same: one catalog, one customer record, one integration layer, so the business is never running two versions of the truth.

Does Adobe Commerce support B2B selling?

It does, natively. Adobe Commerce B2B adds company accounts with multiple buyers, divisions and role-based permissions; shared catalogs with company-specific pricing, where negotiated contract pricing usually lives; negotiable quotes; purchase orders with approval rules; requisition lists and Quick Order by SKU; and company credit, so approved buyers can pay on account. On Adobe Commerce on cloud infrastructure, the B2B module is included with the Pro plan and available for an additional fee on Starter. Bulk purchasing is handled by these features rather than a custom checkout.

How do you keep the platform secure?

Security is a build habit, not a launch task. On cloud infrastructure, Adobe maintains PCI certification for the hosting layer and provides Fastly’s managed WAF, built-in DDoS protection and origin cloaking. We handle the merchant side of that shared-responsibility model: Adobe security patches applied on a schedule, two-factor authentication and role-based permissions in the Admin, HTTPS across the storefront and the Admin, PCI scope kept small by tokenized payment integrations, and dependency and code scanning in the delivery pipeline.

Can you integrate Adobe Commerce with our ERP?

Yes. The platform exposes GraphQL, REST and SOAP web APIs, plus events and webhooks that announce changes as they happen. We integrate Adobe Commerce with ERP, CRM, PIM, WMS and BI systems, Microsoft Dynamics included, and keep pricing, stock and order status synchronized rather than re-keyed by someone in operations. Where several back-office systems are involved, Adobe App Builder runs the integration logic outside the core and API Mesh combines multiple APIs into one GraphQL endpoint.

How do you approach performance work?

Performance optimization starts with measurement: Core Web Vitals, server response and the slowest catalog pages, traced in New Relic. From there it is Fastly (or Varnish) full-page caching, Redis or Valkey for cache and sessions, Fastly Image Optimization for WebP images, indexer tuning and query fixes. Each change is re-measured after release, so the gain is provable.

Can our content team edit pages without developers?

Yes. Page Builder ships with Adobe Commerce and gives merchandisers drag-and-drop layouts for CMS pages, products and categories, with rows, columns, banners, sliders, video and product blocks. Content Staging lets them schedule a campaign’s pages, products and price rules to switch on and off automatically. We set the templates and the guardrails, so campaigns go live without a developer in the loop.

What happens after launch?

Ongoing support takes over: monitoring in New Relic, Adobe security patches applied on a schedule, small enhancements and a roadmap review each quarter. Before each Adobe Commerce version upgrade, we run Adobe’s Upgrade Compatibility Tool against your custom code and rehearse the upgrade in staging. Post-launch support is where most of the commercial value shows up, because a store keeps changing long after the release that made it live.

How do you keep the build future-proof?

By staying close to the platform. Customizations go into modules rather than core files, and new integrations are built out-of-process with App Builder, events and APIs, which Adobe recommends for upgrade safety. Upgrades are rehearsed in a staging environment with the Upgrade Compatibility Tool, and third-party extensions, including Magento extensions from Adobe Commerce Marketplace, are audited before they enter the stack. That discipline keeps maintenance costs down and keeps a later move to Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service open.

What gives Adobe Commerce a competitive advantage?

Depth at the enterprise end: multi-store and multi-currency support from one Admin, native B2B, Live Search and AI-driven Product Recommendations, and an extension ecosystem maintained over many years. It also gives you a choice of deployment — managed PaaS on the Starter or Pro plan, or Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service — with tight links to the wider Adobe Experience Cloud. The competitive advantage is less about any single feature and more about how far you can grow before you outgrow the platform.

Is Adobe Commerce the same as Magento?

They share a codebase and a history. Magento is the open-source ecommerce platform written in PHP, acquired by Adobe in 2018, and Magento Open Source is still available as the free edition. Adobe Commerce is the commercial edition built on it, adding B2B, Content Staging, customer segments, Live Search, Product Recommendations and managed cloud infrastructure. The latest release line, Adobe Commerce 2.4.9, runs on PHP 8.5 and supports OpenSearch 3 and Valkey.

Do you work with enterprise catalogs?

Yes. Enterprise capability is why most teams choose this platform: large catalogs, multiple storefronts, several currencies and tax regimes on one installation. On the cloud Pro plan, production runs on a dedicated three-node cluster where every node serves traffic, and Adobe can add temporary capacity ahead of a known peak. We size the infrastructure for the peak week rather than the average one, then load-test it before launch.

How does this drive business growth?

Through fewer blockers. Faster pages, search that finds the right product and a checkout that fits how your customers buy will drive business growth more reliably than a redesign does. On Adobe Commerce, that usually means Fastly caching and image optimization for speed, Live Search for findability, Product Recommendations for basket size, and B2B quotes and requisition lists for repeat buyers. We agree on the metrics first, then report against them every month.

What makes your approach different?

AI is engineered into the work rather than sold as an extra, and innovative solutions are introduced only where a proven pattern would cost you more. We build on Adobe’s recommended patterns — out-of-process extensions with App Builder, Adobe’s own services for search and recommendations, Fastly and New Relic configured for your store — so it stays upgradeable. You get one accountable team, a working demo at every stage and no handover between strategy and delivery.

How long does an Adobe Commerce migration take?

Scope decides it, not a calendar. Catalog size, the number of integrations and how clean the data is set the timeline, which is why data cleaning happens before anything moves. For Magento 1, Adobe’s Data Migration Tool moves settings and data first, then runs a delta mode that keeps copying new orders and customers, so the final cutover window stays short. Moves to Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service use Adobe’s Commerce Data Migration Service, where most of the work runs while the store stays live. We verify data integrity on both sides and keep the redirect map inside the migration plan rather than bolted on afterward.

Can our systems stay in sync in real time?

Yes, that is what the API layer is for. Adobe Commerce events and webhooks announce changes such as a new order or a stock update the moment they happen, and App Builder apps or middleware pass them to your systems of record. Orders, inventory and customer records then stay synchronized between Adobe Commerce and your ERP, so seamless integrations replace the spreadsheet reconciliation and the storefront stops selling stock that has already gone.

What does PCI compliance look like here?

Adobe Commerce works on a shared-responsibility model. On cloud infrastructure, Adobe maintains PCI certification for the hosting infrastructure and services, while the merchant stays responsible for the customized application, extensions, patching and PCI ASV scans. Card data is handled by the payment gateway through tokenized integrations rather than stored in your application, which keeps the audit scope small. We keep it small by refusing to build anything that would touch raw card data.

Which caching layers actually move the needle?

Adobe recommends Varnish for full-page caching on Adobe Commerce on-premises, while Adobe Commerce on cloud infrastructure uses Fastly, a Varnish-based CDN, for edge and full-page caching. Redis or Valkey handles sessions and the application cache, and Fastly Image Optimization takes image resizing off your servers. We measure each layer separately in New Relic, so we know which change earned the improvement.

Do you offer fixed packages or bespoke work?

Bespoke, inside a repeatable framework. The delivery method is standard; the build is not, because a Starter-plan B2C store, a Pro-plan B2B portal and a move to Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service need very different work. Tailored solutions come out of discovery, where we agree on scope, sequence and the definition of done before anyone estimates a sprint.

How do you choose an Adobe Commerce development agency?

Look at the work first. Review the portfolio and case studies for Adobe Commerce projects like yours, ask for a detailed project roadmap before anything is signed, and ask who owns the store after launch. Check hands-on experience with the parts of the platform you will actually use, such as the B2B module, Fastly configuration, Live Search or App Builder. Experience with your catalog size, your integrations and your specific requirements matters more than a long client list, and our own case-study library is open for exactly that check.

Can one installation run multiple brands?

Yes. Adobe Commerce runs a multi-store hierarchy from a single installation: multiple websites, each with its own stores and store views, all managed from one Admin. That lets multiple brands, sites and markets share the platform while each carries its own product selection, design, language and currency display, and B2B shared catalogs can sit alongside B2C storefronts. A new brand can drive sales without a second platform to run, and we plan that hierarchy in discovery, because everything built later sits on it.

Can you migrate us from Magento Open Source?

Yes. Stores on Magento Open Source, Magento 1, WooCommerce and other legacy platforms move onto Adobe Commerce through the same plan: data cleaning first, then catalog, customer and order mapping, then a redirect map for every URL. Magento Open Source shares its codebase with Adobe Commerce, so that move keeps far more of the existing build than a replatform from another system does. Once on Adobe Commerce, you gain the B2B module, Content Staging, Live Search, Product Recommendations and Adobe-managed cloud hosting.

What is the difference between Adobe Commerce on cloud infrastructure (PaaS) and Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service (SaaS)?

Adobe Commerce on cloud infrastructure is a single-tenant PaaS: Adobe hosts it, but you decide when upgrades and patches go in, and developers can customize the platform with in-process PHP modules as well as App Builder apps. Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service (ACCS) is a multi-tenant, versionless SaaS: Adobe upgrades it automatically and gives you a 30-day sandbox window to test updates before they reach production. On ACCS, customizations run only out-of-process through APIs, events and App Builder, and storefronts are built on Edge Delivery Services rather than Luma. PaaS suits stores with heavy custom code; ACCS suits teams that want Adobe to own upgrades, and a move starts with Adobe’s Migration Assessment Tool.

What do the Adobe Commerce Cloud Starter and Pro plans include?

Both plans include Fastly CDN with image optimization, a managed web application firewall on production, New Relic APM monitoring, and Git-based environments for development, staging and production. Starter runs on PaaS containers with up to four environments: production, staging and two integration environments. Pro adds dedicated staging and production infrastructure, a three-node high-availability production cluster, New Relic Infrastructure with managed alerts, 24x7 monitoring and a dedicated Customer Technical Advisor through launch. The B2B module is included with Pro and available for an additional fee on Starter.

What are Adobe App Builder and API Mesh used for in Adobe Commerce?

Adobe Developer App Builder is Adobe’s platform for building apps that extend Adobe Commerce without touching its core: custom logic runs as serverless actions on Adobe I/O Runtime and reacts to Commerce events and webhooks. API Mesh combines several sources — for example Commerce, an ERP and a PIM — into a single GraphQL endpoint your storefront can query. Because this code lives outside the platform, Adobe’s upgrades are far less likely to break it. App Builder is the only extension route on Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service and the recommended route for new work on PaaS.

What is the Adobe Commerce storefront on Edge Delivery Services?

It is Adobe’s current storefront approach: a headless, decoupled storefront served by Edge Delivery Services and built from Commerce blocks and ready-made drop-in components for product pages, cart and checkout. Adobe built it for top page speed, and marketing teams can author content in documents instead of code. It is the storefront for Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service and can also run on Adobe Commerce on cloud infrastructure once Catalog Service and the storefront compatibility package are installed. We use it where page speed and content agility matter most, and keep Luma or a custom headless front end where an existing build makes more sense.
