Mark Pincus shared thisI want to build a breakout hit. That ambition sets the bar. Instinct is growing 10% a day through virality. That’s the kind of growth I see as a hit by today’s standards. At 1% daily growth, I’d keep going while still asking whether the idea has breakout potential. The number only means something next to the ambition. #MarkPincus #LifeAtTheSpeedOfPlay #Imagination #Innovation #FutureOfTech

Mark Pincus shared thisHow do you know your idea is an A? You feel it. The data supports it. The stories people tell you confirm it. Those signals start to sing together. I think of it like a song you love. You know it works, and the evidence keeps confirming it. Set an absolute bar for success, then ask whether or not your idea really clears it? #MarkPincus #LifeAtTheSpeedOfPlay #Imagination #Innovation #FutureOfTech

Mark Pincus shared thisI don’t think failure is okay when you could have succeeded. The key is to build an innovation machine that tests ideas before you commit everything to one. Testing 100 ideas means learning from 100 experiments. Put everything behind one idea and every outcome feels personal. Resources often keep a B-plus idea alive for too long. Pressure can sharpen our focus on what will actually work. #MarkPincus #LifeAtTheSpeedOfPlay #Imagination #Innovation #FutureOfTech

Mark Pincus shared thisGames and virtual worlds give us a place to follow imagination wherever it goes. In Minecraft, you can build almost anything you can picture. That sense of possibility is what keeps pulling people back to games. You can experiment, make something new, and keep following an idea wherever it leads. Imagine bringing that creative freedom into more parts of life. #MarkPincus #LifeAtTheSpeedOfPlay #Imagination #Innovation #FutureOfTech

Mark Pincus shared thisWe want a different relationship with failure. For me, that starts with testing ideas without getting attached to them. Each test expands the surface area of what I can explore and helps me build conviction. I set a high bar for commitment. When I have conviction, I commit. #MarkPincus #LifeAtTheSpeedOfPlay #Imagination #Innovation #FutureOfTech

Mark Pincus shared thisOne of the biggest advantages in product creation is having fun. Halloween, Burning Man, Vegas. You get to try on a different persona, follow an impulse, and see where it takes you. The best product makers I know bring that same energy to their work. They stay curious, chase what interests them, and give unconventional ideas room to breathe. That’s life at the speed of play. #MarkPincus #LifeAtTheSpeedOfPlay #Creativity #Innovation #FutureOfTech

Mark Pincus shared thisWhat if we brought the imagination of play into real life? When we play, we’re willing to be silly, get creative, and try ideas our serious adult brains might dismiss. Lower the bar for what’s worth exploring, and more ideas get a chance to become something real. #MarkPincus #LifeAtTheSpeedOfPlay #Imagination #Innovation #FutureOfTech

Mark Pincus shared thisElon may be living in the future today, but eventually we all will. The real shift is what happens when the tools and capabilities available to one person become accessible to everyone. When you can turn an idea into a real product quickly, life starts to feel less like a fixed system and more like a game. That’s Life at the Speed of Play: lower the cost of making things, and more becomes possible. #MarkPincus #LifeAtTheSpeedOfPlay #ElonMusk #Innovation #FutureOfTechnology

Mark Pincus reposted thisMark Pincus reposted thisUnderstanding what makes games work can change how you think about almost every part of life. I’ve learned so much about this from Bing Gordon, and now you can too. Bing and Chloe Gordon are releasing their new book, Everybody Wins: What Games Teach Us About Making Products People Love. I’m excited for more people to learn from the ideas that have shaped my own thinking. Recommend picking up a copy. For game publishers, releasing the next installment of a blockbuster franchise now requires more than great gameplay. Success increasingly depends on: • Social play • Cross-platform habits • Integrated creator systems • Scalable, efficient economics The most successful companies will treat their games as dynamic social platforms, not static products. See how leading publishers are adapting in our 2025 TMT Replay. Google (Playground) and Unity (Spark) partnered to let you create games. Now that everyone creates games, platforms are flooded with content. What is the right discovery model in this new world? I don't have the answer, but here are some thoughts: 1. Video platforms like TikTok and Youtube might seem like logical analogues, but aren't: Videos are inherently linear and one-off. You watch and move on. Games are fundamentally different: you can play an exceptional game for years. 2. How about the app stores? While being (financially) extremely successful, they evolved to a 'pay to win' model, and organic discovery in the stores has been dead for years. So, at CrazyGames, we're taking own approach to distinguish games people love from those they merely play. We're doing so by inferring long-term quality signals from short-term, limited, noisy, but real user engagement data. A hard but fun problem!

Gaming doesn’t evolve randomly. It moves in clear circles. Free-to-play was one of those inflection points. Now, the industry is entering its next major phase: Monetization at the system level. When platforms unify how value moves, everything changes. We’ve seen this before in retail, ecommerce, and payments. Once people stop thinking in terms of cash and start thinking in terms of flexible value, growth accelerates fast. In this episode of #Unshielded with Timothy Tello of 3thix, we unpack why gaming may be the clearest preview of how digital economies scale. Watch Now: https://lnkd.in/erKX3r8t

Zynga's stock was trading at $1.87 when Frank Gibeau took over. The enterprise value was around $200M. The eventual exit was $12.7 billion. He walks through exactly how that happened on the latest episode of the Gaming Founders Podcast, and it's one of the more candid turnaround stories I've heard. What he inherited was rough. $600M in revenue but only $17M in profit, 16 of 17 VPs gone within months, and a company that had missed the shift to mobile entirely. He describes it as a very fast race car with the parts all over the garage floor. The rebuild wasn't one dramatic move, but a culture reset grounded in Zynga's founding story, cutting 120 projects down to a handful so the best people were on the biggest ideas, an M&A approach that let acquired studios stay themselves, and data science fast enough that teams could skip the pitch deck and just pull cohort data. What struck me is that none of this was improvised. Frank spent 23 years at EA before Zynga, going back to Road Rash, and you can hear the playbook forming across those decades. His view on platform shifts stayed with me: if you're worried about the new thing disrupting the old thing, you've probably already lost. Thank you Frank for joining us and being so open with the story, and to Kevin Zhang for cohosting as always. Full episode linked in the comments 🎧
