Michael Witz shared thisExcited to announce that Redemption Games, Inc. has raised $7 million in a new round of funding as an independent game studio. Our team has a rich history in gaming, having created hit mobile games like Sweet Escapes and Cookie Jam, which have generated over $1 billion in sales. At Redemption Games, we're pushing the boundaries of what's possible with emerging technologies like AI and Web3 to create mass-market games. Our focus on free-to-play gaming first means our games will be available to players whether they're blockchain users or not, but for those that want that kind of experience, we're incorporating digital collectibles into our game economy. We're excited about the future and can't wait to share more about the new games we're working on. If you're interested in joining our team, we're hiring for a few select roles. Reach out to us at jobs@redemptiongames. Michael Witz reacted on thisMichael Witz reacted on thisIn the last 60 days, Pogo ran 100,000 research interviews with purchase-verified shoppers. Today, we're giving you access to everything. It's called Insights Library: a new type of research engine that answers questions about your customers, competitors, or category on demand, in seconds. No need to launch a new study. No need to wait. We even push studies to you. With Insights Library, you simply ask Pogo any question across any hundreds of topics, categories and brands, like: 🟣 How is GLP-1 reshaping snacks? 🟣 What would win back shoppers who stopped buying lettuce after the outbreak? 🟣 What's the biggest white space in non-alcoholic drinks? 🟣 Why are consumers switching from ChatGPT to Muse? Our research agent draws on our always-growing database of qual and quant studies to find the datapoints and analysis you need, immediately. And Insights Library never stops growing: 🟣 1 million interviews and responses by year-end 📈 🟣 Every one of them purchase-verified ✅ 🟣 New studies designed, fielded and filed automatically every week 🔁 (Note: custom studies you run with Pogo remain private to your brand) Need to explore something happening in your category, like a product launch, a recall, or a viral story? Pogo’s research agents are already on it. For the first time, brands can answer research questions with insights from real shoppers, without ever launching a study. At Pogo, we’re building the largest source of verified human truth. Find out more at https://lnkd.in/eF2MKbdd. To request a free trial comment POGO below.

Michael Witz liked thisMichael Witz liked thisStartup ecosystems everywhere are trying to copy Silicon Valley. But the secret isn't the weather or the schools. It's the angels. There are SO many of them. And what most people don't realize: a LOT of them are writing $1,000 checks. People ask me all the time: who's going to take a $1,000 check? I used to wonder the same thing. Then I found out a friend of mine, who was still running his startup and hadn't had any liquidity yet, was writing $1,000 checks. And it turns out lots of people were! After I sold LaunchBit, wealth advisors called me constantly. Everyone assumed I got rich. The reality is it was a pretty mediocre exit. Hah. So I didn't have much money. But I knew startups and wanted to help out friends. So I started writing $1k checks too. But to get into a great company with a $1,000 investment, you have to sell yourself. "I'd like to invest $1,000" is not compelling to anyone. Lead with why you: fast decisions, not a pain to deal with, and a specific way you can help. Other things you can help with: amplifying job posts, feedback on decks, intros to other investors. Or making the meanest chocolate chip cookies they've ever tasted :) And small checks punch way above their weight. Take Freshpaint, one of our portfolio companies. They raised their seed in 2020, right as COVID froze investors. After approaching 100 investors, they had closed just $60k. But they persevered. And the founder, Steven Fitzsimmons, was analytical about tracking every check and intro. When he closed the round, he was floored to learn that over $700k of it traced back to a single $5k angel check. That investor opened doors to other investors, who opened more doors still. The round ended up 50% oversubscribed. Small checks unlock SO much of the magic in Silicon Valley. You never know which $1k check ends up opening the door to the whole round.

Michael Witz reacted on thisToday we're publicly launching HABU. This has been a long time coming for Jun Chen and I. I've been strategizing and ideating on the (many) problems of real estate development since my first day in my grad program and doing free underwriting and DD work. Talk about culture shock. I went from working at a San Francisco-based (innovation capital of the world), Y Combinator- and Sequoia Capital-backed startup, Mutiny, led by an operationally rigorous CEO, Jaleh Rezaei, who had an MBA from Stanford GSB into ..... commercial real estate. Wow. I truly could not believe that this legacy industry was still using Excel, Word, emails, and a surprisingly high amount of manual knowledge work to develop $MM+ projects. Now, there are a lot of reasons *why* CRE is still so old school. None of them are very good reasons in the age of AI. We're correcting those structural inefficiencies with HABU as the first AI-native real estate developer. We are the developer. The actual GP. Not a SaaS product. But we're building this business to *not* be a long term property owner. We purely provide the service of developing physical assets on behalf of our customers: institutional capital, PE firms, family offices, and high-net-worth individuals. Our AI-native operating system let's us complete projects 10-20% faster, lowers total project cost by 10-15%, and manage 5x more projects per development manager. If you work at an investment fund or are personally interested in investing in durable, cash-flowing real estate projects then reach out directly. We're building the future of buildings at HABU.Michael Witz reacted on thisHABU is an AI-native real estate development firm that helps real estate investors deploy capital to build housing faster, at lower cost, and with higher yield. New housing has never been slower or more expensive to build. The high cost of new housing increases everyone's cost of living and makes it harder to finance a project. A single apartment project involves 700+ discrete tasks and over 1,000+ hours of manual desk work: pulling data from a dozen public databases by hand, calling brokers, architects, engineers, and lawyers for quotes, and tracking it all in spreadsheets, Word docs, and even physical paper. Commercial real estate has the lowest technology adoption of any $100B+ industry. HABU is not a SaaS product for developers: they are the developer. And they’re building an internal AI-native operating system that helps them complete projects up to 10-20% faster, lowers total project costs by 10-15%, and manage 5x more projects per development manager. The end-to-end development process is automated and autonomously run using AI. Bryan Tharalson worked on $310M+ of projects for industrial, data center land, and a lot of multifamily projects. He was the top-ranked grad in the Master’s of Real Estate Development (MRED) program at ASU. He previously had a long career in GTM leadership at startups like Mutiny (employee #5, raised $75M from YC, Sequoia, Insight), and started his first company at 23, redeveloping brownfield sites and doing environmental remediation. Jun Chen spent 4.5 years at Meta building AI data systems used across global operations and product teams. He previously led enterprise workflow transformation at Accenture and started his career in the US Navy Aviation Logistics, managing supply chains for F-18s and F-35C’s. Deployed twice. Bryan and Jun have an unusually specific fit for working on high-value, high-impact business workflows. Learn more at www.buildhabu.com. Congrats on the launch, Bryan and Jun! 🚀 https://lnkd.in/gWqaPTXe

Creators can accelerate discovery: or expose a studio to operational chaos. Access builds, embargoes, disclosures, community expectations, regional requirements, and rapid feedback all need to work together. A missed handoff can affect launch momentum, reputation, and the relationship with the players a studio is trying to reach. The emerging need is a Creator Partnership Operations Leader who can build repeatable systems between publishing, marketing, community, legal, product, and development. This is not simply influencer marketing. It is operational ownership of a high-impact player and audience channel, with enough game fluency to understand what creators need and enough process discipline to protect the studio. The right candidate may come from publishing, community, partnerships, esports, or live operations. Generic title matching will miss much of this talent. Game Recruiter’s Surgical Recruitment model helps identify experienced professionals who know how to turn audience relationships into reliable launch and live-service capabilities. #Gaming #CreatorEconomy #GamePublishing #TalentStrategy #Recruitment

Aniimo launched on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox on September 16, while mobile will follow one week later on September 23. I was looking at the one-week gap and wondering why. With the power of UA on mobile, one week may not make a big difference in building the overall player base. So why put PC and console first? Looking deeper, there may be a bigger picture behind Aniimo. FunPlus has built much of its core business around mobile games. But the company describes Aniimo as part of its next phase which is an "IP-centric cross-platform vision." It is also their biggest bet to date in terms of budget and ambition. I don't think we should look at this simply as a staggered platform launch. My initial thought was that launching PC and console first could help establish that player base before mobile comes in. But there could be technical, operational or other reasons behind the one-week gap as well. FunPlus has not stated the reason, so we shouldn't assume. What is clear is the direction. Aniimo is not just a mobile game being extended to more platforms. FunPlus is using it as part of a much broader move into cross-platform games and original IP. Here are the reasons GamesBeat is the best: 1) The sheer volume of quality output is wild. It is like The Economist of video games. The depth, consistency, breadth, and amount of thoughtful coverage is extraordinary. 2) Accountability matters, but so does kindness. Dean Takahashi and the team don't do gotcha journalism. They ask difficult questions and cover difficult subjects, but the purpose is never to embarrass people who don't deserve to feel embarrassed. There is a fundamental decency to their work. 3) I believe they do more to highlight and acknowledge the good, social, and community parts of our industry than anybody else. They consistently shine a light on people making a positive difference, including those whose contributions might otherwise go unnoticed. 4) They keep finding ways to bring more people under the tent. Seemingly every annual cycle brings new panels, talks, awards, and initiatives recognizing different parts of our industry, whether women, mobile gaming, startups, or so many other communities. They aren't content to serve the same audience in the same way. 5) They have an institutional memory that is almost impossible to replicate. Dean has covered this industry for decades. GamesBeat understands not only what is happening today, but how we got here, what has been tried before, and which cycles we keep repeating. That perspective is a gift. 6) They understand that video games are both an art form and a business. They cover the games themselves, but also the people, companies, economics, technology, investment, and decisions that make the entire industry work. 7) Their main job is not reporting on the industry. It is bringing our industry together. Through events, conversations, panels, and introductions, GamesBeat creates relationships and opportunities that otherwise might never exist. Some publications cover communities. GamesBeat actually helps build one. 8) They manage to remain optimistic without being blind to our industry's problems. They don't ignore layoffs, business failures, or difficult realities. But they also remind us that there are good people doing good things, important innovations happening, and plenty of reasons to believe in the future of games. 9) They keep investing in games journalism when doing so has become incredibly difficult. At a time when so many publications have downsized, disappeared, or reduced their coverage, GamesBeat keeps finding ways to build, expand, and serve this industry. That persistence deserves enormous respect. GamesBeat makes good things happen to our industry and to its people. That is their greatest legacy to me. And I think that is a wonderful thing for all of us to support. Thank you THE GREAT Dean Takahashi, THE INVINCIBLE Gina Joseph, and to the entire GamesBeat team!
