About us

Children’s Museum Houston is committed to transforming communities through innovative, child-centered learning that improves the trajectories of all children. Our vision is a future where all children, families and communities in Greater Houston can reach their fullest potential. With a focus on strengthening parents’ abilities to serve as their children’s first and most influential teachers, we provide meaningful bilingual resources to families at the Museum and in the community. These resources are necessary tools to prepare children for success in school, make learning a part of children’s daily lives, and instill in children a passion for lifelong learning.

What an incredible evening at the Children's Museum Houston Gala! It was a fantastic night celebrating an organization that does so much for the children and families of our community. Even better, the gala raised a record-breaking $1.32 million! As a proud member of the Museum’s Board, it’s especially rewarding to see the tremendous support for its mission of inspiring learning through play. Congratulations to the gala chairs, staff, volunteers, and everyone who helped make the evening such a tremendous success. And a special thank you to the generous sponsors and supporters who continue to invest in Houston’s children and their futures! #ChildrensMuseumHouston #Houston #Philanthropy #CommunityImpact

Fairytales really can come true. The Museum’s Once Upon a Time Gala raised a record-breaking $1.32 million in one enchanted evening. I am so grateful to our Chairs Jessica Bertuccio & Michael Bertuccio and Bahareh Flavin & James Flavin. With an incredible vision, they transformed Corinthian Houston into a storybook, complete with a carriage, a candlelit garden, and even wickedly good apples that were not what they appeared to be. Thank you to our Underwriting Chairs Lauren Barrett & Max Barrett and Lilly Cullen & Harrison Cullen, and to our Auction Chairs Alex Butt & Claire Schmitt Virga, who were so integral to the success of this event. Almost every fairytale has a Prince Charming, but our Gala had two of them. Two adorable puppy princes found their forever homes, going to lucky bidders Jonathan Sloan and our event Chairs, the Bertuccio's. Thank you to everyone who was a part of the Gala. You are the true fairy godmothers for Houston’s children, providing crucial support to create magical learning experiences across our city through the Museum’s outreach.

At Children's Museum Houston, we believe in the power of play. Two of the CMH team members pictured below are about to participate in a pretend duel, having outlasted their coworkers on an imaginary pirate ship. This was one of many games that were part of the Museum’s annual staff retreat.   Our retreat focused on who we are as an organization, and how the Museum incorporates play, belonging, and learning into everything we do. We gained new perspectives on serving our visitors from Lovescaping author Irene Greaves, and all of our staff came together to create a collaborative mural.   An especially poignant moment was when CMH Advisory Board Member Adam Drutz presented our CFO Julia Laureto, CPA with the Museum’s Lois Drutz Boiarsky Award. This award honors the memory of Lois, who was the Museum’s very first employee, and it celebrates CMH staff members who bring our mission to life.   Thanks to everyone who shared their favorite games with the team, who led creative art projects, and who showed up with open hearts and open minds. You helped make a day that benefited us all, and in turn, will help us create even more amazing experiences for Houston's children.

What happens when the babies in Tot*Spot grow up? They become young leaders like Catherine and Quinten. These twins are now preteens, and they have volunteered on the Museum’s child advisory board, the Kids' Committee.   Not only have they given their time, Catherine and Quinten also recently made a donation to the Museum. They ran a boba and lemonade business at their school, giving their proceeds to community organizations. They wanted to give back to a museum that they have loved since they were babies.   This summer, Catherine provided remarks at the Grand Opening of our Gallery of Wonder. It was a full circle moment when Catherine welcomed a new generation of little ones to the redesigned Tot*Spot.   I am so proud of Catherine and Quinten, and all of our Kids' Committee members who help test out Museum activities, brainstorm new ideas, and provide valuable perspective from a kids' point of view. I also deeply appreciate the CEO Foundation for supporting our Kids' Committee, helping us nurture Houston's next generation of leaders.

  • Community leaders like Jen Kavoussi are making Houston a better place for families. The Museum is pleased to announce that Jen has joined its Advisory Board!   Jen spent her career as a hospital administrator, having worked at Yale New Haven Hospital and Texas Children’s Hospital before stepping away to focus on her family. In addition to her service at the Museum, she is also on the board of Hermann Park Conservancy. Jen and her husband, Shawn Kavoussi, are proud parents of their two young children.   Jen, welcome to the Museum’s Advisory Board!

A special Texans experience became an opportunity to give back. 🏈 Thanks to the generosity of the Karam family, an unforgettable experience was able to reach even further. After enjoying a special visit to Texans Training Camp, the Karams gifted the game-day portion of their experience forward to the Children's Museum Houston’s Kids’ Committee. The kids spent the day at NRG Stadium, where they had the opportunity to meet Voice of the Texans Marc Vandermeer and Fred Weary, one of the Original Texans, along with plenty of game-day excitement. Gifted-forward experiences are one of the ways generosity can create opportunities for children in our community to step into something new, make meaningful connections, and create lasting memories. We’re grateful to the Karam family for choosing to share their experience, and to Mark, Fred, and everyone who helped make the day so special. 🩵

  • When Houstonians give back, great things are possible. We are excited to announce that Mary Morgan Stevens has joined our Advisory Board! Mary Morgan is the Chair of The CREW, the Museum’s philanthropic membership group. She also served on the Auction Committee for our 2025 Gala, the most successful fundraising event in the Museum’s history.   In addition to being a mother of two young children, Mary Morgan is the Regional Assistant Director of Admission for Rhodes College, and she is also a dedicated community volunteer and advocate for children, families, and the arts in Houston. In 2025, Mary Morgan chaired the Fall Friends Luncheon for L.I.F.E. Houston, which provides infant formula and offers educational resources about infant nutrition to families in need. She was also an honoree for L.I.F.E. Houston's Mother's Day Luncheon.   Mary Morgan and her husband, Reed, are members of The Children’s Fund. She serves on the Vestry of St. John the Divine Episcopal Church, and she is a long-time Breeders Greeters Committee member with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.   Recently, Mary Morgan served on the Junior League of Houston’s Charity Ball Committee (2025 Underwriting Chair) and Centennial Fundraising Committee, and she will serve as a Provisional Mentor this coming year. Mary Morgan remains committed to supporting her alma mater, serving as Chair of the Class of 2011’s 15th Reunion and Annual Fund at Washington and Lee University. In October 2026, Mary Morgan will serve as Chair of The Menil Collection's sixth annual Party in the Park. Mary Morgan, thank you for making a difference in the Houston community and for your guidance on the Museum’s Advisory Board!
