Description of inside bets
So, as you can see, in general, there are five types of inside bets you can place on any roulette table and an extra basket bet on the American wheel with the extra 00 slot. Let’s see what they are:
- Straight Up Bets. Regardless of the roulette variant you are playing, the Straight Up bet always has the highest payout of 35 to 1. You bet a single number on the table and the volatility is the highest, with the odds of winning it being the lowest at 2.7% on French Roulette and 2.60% on American Roulette.
- Split Bets. With the Split Bet, you bet on any two numbers, adjacent to one another. You place your bet on the line between the two numbers, making sure each number is covered with half of the chip. This bet has a payout of 17 to 1, and the probability of landing is 5.4% on the European and 5.3% on the American version.
- Street Bets. With Street bets, you bet on an entire row of numbers. Each row has 3 numbers, so this is often called the Trio bet. You place your chip at the edge of the row. The payout for the Street bet is 11 to 1 and the odds of winning are 8.1% on European and 7.9% on American Roulette.
- Corner Bets. This bet got its name from the square shape, where each number you bet is a corner of the square. So here you are betting 4 adjacent numbers, where the payout is 8 to 1. The probability of winning the bet is 10.5% in American and 10.8% in European Roulette.
- Six Line Bets. As you can already guess from the name, with this bet, you are betting on 6 numbers covering two adjacent rows. Place your bet on the edge of the line between the rows. The payout here is 5 to 1 and the odds of landing it are 16.2% for European and 15.8% for American Roulette.
- Basket Bet. The basket bet is native to American Roulette only. Here, you get on 5 numbers 1, 2, 3, 0 and 00. The payout for this bet is 6 to 1 and the probability of landing it is 13.2%.
Inside bets strategies
There are many betting strategies that you can use for inside bets on roulette. Some of them are designed to help you mitigate your losses, while others are designed to maximise your chances of winning. Below, we explain in detail some of the most popular ones.
9 Street System
For this system, you only need to use the Street inside bet. The goal of the system is to maximise the odds of winning each bet. Here’s how it works.
Bet 1 unit on a total of 10 street bets, covering 30 numbers overall. If the bet is won the next bet covers 9 street bets, but you keep the same wager size. If, on the next spin, you hit a loss, you go back to placing 10 street bets. But you don’t bet on the one which won in the previous hand.

With the 9 Street system, players have about a 73% chance of winning each hand if you are playing European Roulette. The strategy here is to make a profit of 3 units with each win. In general, this is a short-term strategy, so once you are in profit, you should quit while you’re ahead.
9 Split System
The 9 Split system is very similar to the 9 Street system. Here’s how it works.
You get 1 unit on 9 split bets across the table, where each of the bets is on numbers of the same colour. On a loss, you bet again but you increase the bet by 1 unit. On a win, you go back to the starting wager and stick with it.

As you can see, this is a progressive strategy when it comes to covering your losses. You are betting 18 numbers on each hand, so your chances of winning are 48.6%. On every win, you make a profit of 9 units.
11 Number System
The 11 Number system is quite a volatile strategy, where you place 11 straight-up bets. They are in a specific order, with the first one being the last winning number on the table. After that, you simply bet 10 numbers that are adjacent to that number.
So if the last winning number was 15, you bet a single unit there. They place one unit bets on adjacent numbers, from 16 to 25.

The odds of winning this bet in European Roulette are 28.72%. The payout for Straight Up bets is 35:1, but this is a highly risky strategy, so you should use it with
Features
Inside bets are generally more volatile than outside bets due to their lower probability of winning. This means that players may experience rapid swings in their bankrolls—long sequences of losses can quickly deplete funds, whereas a single win can significantly boost them. Below, we provide a typical graph of such fluctuating, illustrating the number of spins on the horizontal axis and the changes in a player’s bankroll on the vertical axis.
Conclusion
Combined with the right betting strategy and some luck on your side, inside bets can be your friend, leading the way to big payouts. Truth be told, they are more exciting to use as the volatility contributes to more turbulent gameplay with frequent ups and downs.
But be aware that to use inside bets at the roulette table, you will need a bigger bankroll to cover the losing streaks. Always make sure to combine your bets to have the best odds of winning and potentially making a profit at the tables.
