Scott Koenigsberg shared thisCannot wait to read this book. So grateful to Mark for providing me with the opportunity to do something that I truly love at an amazing company for the last 17 years. Mark taught me so much during our time together and I certainly wouldn’t be the product manager I am today without his mentorship.Scott Koenigsberg shared thisI'm excited to share that my book, Life at the Speed of Play, will be out in June. I've spent these last 5 years writing so I can share my lessons and stories around building products and scaling companies. At Zynga, we lived with the mantra that we had to test more ideas in a week than the game industry would test in a year. Now, in this AI era, where anyone can build anything, the winners will be those who learn the fastest, tune to their winning instincts, and kill their losing ideas. Life at the Speed of Play is my playbook. I’m sharing it with founders, product makers, and anyone trying to turn an idea into something that matters. If you’re building something new, I think this book will help. Life at the Speed of Play is available for pre-order now, out June 23.

Scott Koenigsberg shared thisThank you Dobrinka, Patrick and Lennon for the wonderful conversation exploring user acquisition, social, metrics and AI. We covered a lot of ground in a short amount of time.Scott Koenigsberg shared thisScott Koenigsberg (Zynga), Patrick Santora Jr. (Amazon Web Services (AWS)), Lennon Arcaro (Windwalk), and I will be sharing fresh insights and breakthrough strategies on the future of game discovery, building passionate communities, and driving long-term player value at our GamesBeat Next panel. We’ll discuss how data, automation, and community design are transforming what success looks like in gaming—shaping everything from smarter player targeting and personalized experiences, to more efficient marketing strategies and vibrant, self-sustaining communities. As studios tap into advanced analytics and GenAI, they can unlock deeper insights, adapt quickly to changing player preferences, and create platforms that encourage superfans to engage and advocate. These shifts are setting a new standard for how games grow, connect, and thrive in today’s industry.

Scott Koenigsberg shared thisVery proud to be part of this effort. It is truly inspiring to witness people actively improving their lives through this program. And thank you to all my friends and colleagues who supported this cause. TSA is making a difference in SF.Scott Koenigsberg shared thisOn May 15, The Salvation Army’s Lighting The Way Gala brought together more than 300 change makers at The Conservatory at One Sansome. $1 million was raised in support of The Way Out, the Army’s recovery-oriented response to homelessness, which provides detox services, treatment, housing, and career development. This year’s Gala honored District 2 Supervisor Stephen Sherrill and Sarah Wendell Sherrill for their unwavering commitment to San Francisco’s most vulnerable. The program highlighted The Way Out’s remarkable outcomes, including a 76% success rate and 100% of graduates remaining sober, housed, and employed at key follow-up check-ins. One of the evening’s most powerful moments was when several Salvation Army employees stepped on stage to share how many years they, themselves, have been sober. They stood as living proof of the possibility sobriety brings and have committed their lives to empowering others. The height of the program was when a young program participant proudly announced he was celebrating his tenth day of sobriety. The entire room, including Mayor Daniel Lurie 丹尼爾·羅偉, rose in a spontaneous standing ovation—a collective acknowledgment of the courage and hope at the heart of recovery. This inspiring evening would not have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors: Supporting Partner The Costa Olson Family Foundation Ron Conway John and Michele McNellis James and Gayle Tunnell Community Advocate The Costa Family Foundation Sandro Sangiacomo and Jeannie Sangiacomo Premier Table Salesforce Adam Nathan Deluxe Table Bay Area Bright Futures Foundation Independent Institute Susan and Bill Oberndorf Stephen Sherrill and Sarah Wendell Sherrill Diane B. Scott Koenigsberg liked thisScott Koenigsberg liked thisIt took factories decades to benefit from electricity because they first had to rethink a floor plan built for steam. I opened my talk at the MxD Summit in Chicago last week with that story, since manufacturers are at a similar point with AI: people are working faster, and the organization around them hasn’t been redesigned yet. ➡️ The useful model is a digital colleague, where your people keep the judgment and AI brings speed and breadth. ➡️ In most plants today, people are the relay between agents, pasting a drawing into one tool and retyping the order into the next. ➡️ Closing the gap starts with a shared picture of the business that people and agents both work from, with agents holding stable roles and permissions. ➡️ Measure outcomes and cost per task, which is where the gains will show long before they reach the national productivity data. Thank you to MxD for a great week, and to everyone who came to the session or found the Taller team at our booth.

Scott Koenigsberg liked thisScott Koenigsberg liked thisWhen I was in high school, driving down the road in my hometown in suburban Detroit, I had an out-of-the-blue thought to live life without regrets. Maybe I had recently watched Dead Poets Society or some other such movie that touched on life being short and seizing the day. I’m not sure where it came from, but I very much remember the moment. And I have kept the notion of “regret minimization” top of mind since. Many of my best decisions came from taking the riskier fork in the road. Many of my worst did too, but the net balance has been wildly positive. Then ten years ago Bing Gordon asked me a simple question… “What would make this an A+ year for you?” Bing has a book coming out later this month, which inspired me to share this story. As noted, I was already trying to seize the day, but thinking about defining A+ completely changed my approach. Not a good year, not a successful year, an A freaking plus. I loved the question. Every year since, I’ve written down A+ goals. The definition of an A+ year is entirely personal. It’s not about what a company or organization or whoever wants you to achieve, though those things are usually considered. It’s about what you want. In terms of composition, I keep the list short and the goals succinct. Numbers help a lot when defining goals, but I’m also not overly dogmatic about quantifying. To illustrate, over the years I’ve averaged 7 A+ goals per year, with each goal averaging 11 words. Around 65% of them were quantified. Considering major themes can also be helpful, which often carry over from year to year. I always have at least one goal each for health, family, hobbies, and work. Here are some examples of A+ goals I’ve set over the years, including some that have made the list multiple times. * Exercise 5x per week. * Monster summer trip to Europe with family. * Ski 30+ days. * Real customer traction with new company (more than tinkering). To me, the notion of defining an A+ year is somehow both novel and obvious. I’ve long believed life is short, carpe diem, and “the unexamined life is not worth living.” But I’d never previously put pen to paper to define what an exceptional year would mean. It’s also a great example of what it has been like to learn from Bing over the years. His ability to generate novel mental models that stick and change the way you approach common puzzles is incredible. I almost never post on LinkedIn, but I’m inspired here because Bing has been an awesome mentor and friend over the years and he has a new book coming out on October 27th called Everybody Wins. It’s filled with these types of creative and useful approaches around designing products. I hope you find the idea of defining your own A+ year inspiring, and I hope you'll preorder Bing’s new book. https://lnkd.in/dAxDvBZVEverybody Wins: What Games Teach Us About Making Products People LoveEverybody Wins: What Games Teach Us About Making Products People Love

Jules Shumaker, Discord's Chief Business Officer, walked me through what it's building for studios. There's a lot to test and learn on the organic & paid side for game teams and marketers. Here's my Claim your server, then staff it. • Jules says 48M users a day find games through player and game profiles, and claiming your server gets you that page for free • An empty or unmoderated server reads to players as a signal about your game, so make sure someone owns moderation from day one Run the Social SDK behind a holdout. • Discord reports a 31% lift in D28 retention for linked players, plus 1.5 more game days a month • Players who link were already your most social players, so switch the features on for a random half and ask Discord to design the test with you Once you have that player, hold onto them. • Discord knows who played your game and stopped, a signal most ad platforms lack, and about half the campaigns existing games buy there go to reactivation • Give reactivation its own budget line and CPA target, and ask before you sign whether a competitor can target your lapsed players Discord's payers opt into its rewarded ads more. • Jules says payers take part in Discord ads at a higher rate than non-payers, and Discord reports 3x more positive sentiment toward its ads versus traditional formats • Test rewarded ads on your own payer segment and track IAP revenue per payer next to ad revenue, since your reward is often currency those payers would buy Zero take rate commerce still costs you margin. • Discord takes no cut, and you give Nitro subscribers a discount that comes out of your margin • Ask Discord to share the cost of that discount and confirm you own the purchase data before you sign Start Discord as a test budget within UA and live ops, with an owner and a CPA target, and push for test credits and a joint incrementality read, while Discord, which has reportedly filed for IPS, still needs the proof before it goes public. some of my thoughts after going through the article: Live Ops Scaling: Lessons from Gossip Harbor A recent AppMagic review shows something interesting, Gossip Harbor increased its Live Ops cadence from ~20 events/month in 2024 to nearly 100 events/month today. Yes… 100 events per month. Many teams might worry this creates player fatigue. But the data — and player behavior — tell a different story. Here’s why: 1. High event volume ≠ overwhelming players Players may feel there are many events, but active users will always choose the ones that resonate with them. What matters is choice, not forcing everyone through the same path. Giving players options actually reduces negative sentiment. 2. Multiple events serve different player segments Different players enjoy different things: competition, collection, progression, co-op, or just casual fun. A diversified event strategy meets each segment’s needs — keeping more players engaged, more often. 3. Live Ops events bring the community together Co-op, guild, and competitive events help unify different segments. When done well, they boost: • DAU stability • session frequency • long-term retention 4. Key takeaway: High-volume Live Ops isn’t about overwhelming players, it’s about offering freedom, personalization, and continuous engagement loops. The industry is shifting from “one event for all” to multi-track Live Ops ecosystems that let players choose their own journey. Curious to hear, how many events per month do you think is the sweet spot for a different genres? https://lnkd.in/gnzk7rru

In a lean gaming industry, standard onboarding is a luxury you can’t afford. When operating with high-impact teams, every hire must be a surgical fit. Even top talent can stumble without a frictionless integration plan. Surgical Onboarding isn’t about the breakroom. It’s about: 1. Context over Checklists: Explain the "why" behind tech debt or pivots immediately. 2. Deep Immersion: Skip the long orientation. Get them into the build on day one. 3. Cultural Alignment: In small teams, friction is magnified. Reinforce the mission from the start. At Game Recruiter, we fill the critical roles you need ASAP. Because we’ve actually built and launched games, we know that the hire is only half the battle: seamless integration is where the ROI happens. How are you ensuring your high-impact hires hit the ground running? #GameDev #GamingIndustry #TalentAcquisition #Leadership #GameRecruiter
