Jim Ambach posted thisOne aspect of the product management industry is balancing desires and ideas with practicality and consumer needs. Of course, there are plenty of things you want to build if you had the resources and didn’t have competing agendas. However, you have to keep in mind the push and pull factors. For instance, you like your phone the way it is. There comes the point, though, that you know you’ll need to update it to keep up the speed and functionality. Eventually, you’ll either miss something, or the performance will begin to slip. The real question is: at what point do you make that decision? Product managers are constantly figuring out the intersection between upgrading (altering existing products), changing (new ideas), and maintaining current products. #randd #researchanddevelopment #researchandinnovation #productmanagement #productmanagers #workplacewellbeing

Jim Ambach posted thisCreating products and services denotes thinking in terms of value over effort equals utility. The value has to be worth the effort. When someone acts on a whim or a gut feeling based on value and environmental impact, it can lead to a great service by simply reimagining an existing product. That’s exactly what happened for this entrepreneur in Bloomberg Businessweek’s article by Arianne Cohen, “The Mannequin Fascination That Spurred a Sustainable Business.” Check it out here: https://bloom.bg/35096YO Have you seen a successful product or service launched recently with an emphasis on value? Jim Ambach shared thisWhen working on technology features to bring into people’s lives, the trick is creating an open community full of accountability while maintaining a level of privacy for individuals. At first, when you’re creating this product, you’re thinking about how many people involved will just want to share everything. Then reality sets in, and you consider that may be a touch too personal for some users. That’s how the “I Did This!” feature sprang to life. Rather than occurring for all the members who watched a video or participated automatically, it gives members the ability to choose to share. The choice and option for anonymity actually enhanced the experience. You click that button, and you get the satisfaction of “checking that off” and claiming that win of completing it while sharing with others in the community. On the other hand, if you want to participate and you would rather not share for whatever reason, you have that ability. Developing effective features that allow for participation and being visible in the community has been a balance of trial and error lessons. Are we ever REALLY done refining products? #randd #researchanddevelopment #researchandinnovation #productmanagement #productmanagers #workplacewellbeing #features

When it's strong, it's a force-multiplier: two people seeking opportunities, grappling with issues, and lighting the Board and management team on fire to move a company forward. That's how Sean Aggarwal shows up as Lyft's Board Chair. No wonder he's just been named to the NACD (National Association of Corporate Directors) Directorship 100! Sean guided us from an SF startup through our IPO to sustained profitability. Now as he's doing the same as we move into our next chapter of growth, driven by international expansion, premium rides, and autonomous vehicles. Through it all he's built and lead the team with with rigor and poise Huge congratulations, Sean. Here’s to 10 great years and many more. https://lnkd.in/gqax-ZBn

No more getting off the plane in Europe only to have to download a new app-- or use an app you don't want to 😀-- to get to your Airbnb or hotel. So if you’re headed to Barcelona or Hamburg (today) or London, Rome, Paris, Berlin, Athens or Warsaw (soon), check Lyft to get you where you need to go. Massive congratulations to the Lyft and Freenow teams. And a fun fact for all you tech leaders: We launched ahead of schedule! If you've got the right people, culture and drive, even the impossible is possible. More here: https://lnkd.in/gswMnM5W

The award is thoughtfully designed, surveying 200,000 people to measure employee satisfaction, examining revenue growth, and evaluating sustainability transparency. Companies (and leaders) are only as strong as their team. This one's all about you Team Lyft. https://lnkd.in/gp223Fwv

Jim Ambach liked thisJim Ambach liked thisToday, Lyft turns 14. 🎉 A lot has changed since John Zimmer and Logan Green founded the company in 2012. Remember all the pink carstaches? This year Lyft will deliver a billion rides in thousands of cities across six continents, offering a mix of rideshare, taxis, private hire vehicles, executive chauffeur services, car sharing, bikes, and scooters. Always serving and connecting, always with joy. Thank you to the incredible drivers, loyal riders, and super-talented team who have led the charge. It's great to be here, and the best is yet to come. I've loved looking at old photos today. We want to hear from you: what's your favorite Lyft memory?

Jim Ambach liked thisJim Ambach liked thisThis summer, while crossing the Pyrenees on foot along the GR10, I met an old mountain guide making his yearly pilgrimage to the Petit Vignemale Glacier, a journey he had repeated every summer for nearly half a century. A quiet sadness came over me as he told me that, once again, a handful of thrill-seekers had climbed there with their skis. Could anyone truly still ski on that frail ribbon of ice I had glimpsed on my ascent? That glacier, now little more than a remnant of itself, will soon take its place among the long list of those that have vanished forever. In that moment, it struck me how few of us truly see the transformation unfolding silently before our eyes. And yet the glaciers of the Pyrenees have lost nearly forty percent of their surface area in just three years. Seven percent: that is all that remains after a century… We are strangely blind to numbers. Statistics, however alarming, remain abstract: distant, almost weightless. Climate change moves too quietly for societies addicted to speed and constant performance, and so we slip into a kind of cognitive dissonance. A human story speaks more powerfully. The words of that old mountain guide left a deeper impression on me than all the studies on the subject ever could.

Jim Ambach liked thisJim Ambach liked thisReally excited to see eBay recognized by The Wall Street Journal as one of the Best Companies for the Future. We ranked No. 2 in Consumer Discretionary Distribution & Retail (just behind Amazon), and it was great to see eBay also come in at No. 14 for AI readiness across all companies. What makes this one especially meaningful is that it’s about where we’re headed. A few years ago, we made a bet that AI would fundamentally change ecommerce. Today, it’s helping millions of eBay sellers create better listings, making it easier for buyers to find exactly what they’re looking for, and giving our teams new ways to move faster and build better products. That’s real progress, but we’re still early. It’s also been great to see the momentum recognized in other ways, with eBay recently named one of Glassdoor’s Best Places to Work in Tech & AI and one of Fortune’s America’s Most Innovative Companies. The thing I’m most excited about isn’t the recognition – it’s what comes next. We have an incredible team that’s constantly experimenting, learning, and shipping. There’s a lot more to build, and I couldn’t be more excited about where we’re headed. Thanks to every eBayer who’s making it happen! Read the full WSJ story here: https://lnkd.in/gPFZTtPV
