Brent Akamine shared thisVinovest has been acquired by StartEngine. I've spent a lot of time thinking about how to write this post. The truth is, no version of it fully captures what building Vinovest has meant to me. So I'll just say it plainly: this is one of the proudest moments of my career. Not because of the deal. Because of what the deal represents. Six years ago, Anthony and I made a bet that investors deserved better access to real, tangible assets. The kind that have stored wealth for centuries. Wine and whiskey aren't speculative; they're physical, finite, and historically uncorrelated to the chaos of public markets. We believed that deeply. A lot of people thought we were crazy. 200,000+ investors later, I think we made our case. StartEngine, led by Activision Co-Founder Howard Marks, has been democratizing private investing since 2014. Their community of 2.1+ million isn't just a big audience. It's the right one. People who think beyond the stock market. People looking for something real. That alignment is why this felt right. To everyone who joined us on this ride, customers, teammates, investors, advisors, I don't take any of it for granted. You made this possible. On to the next chapter. 🍷 🔗 https://lnkd.in/g5TE7iPY

Brent Akamine liked thisBrent Akamine liked thisPepper just crossed $10.5M ARR. Our SEO/GEO business went from zero to $8M in the US, and we got here without outbound ever really working for us. The next chapter: $10.5M to $30M in the next 12 months. Outbound is the one channel we haven't cracked yet, and we believe it can become our superstar channel. We're looking for the leader who builds it. You'd set up our SDR/BDR and ABM function from the ground up, hire the first 15 to 20 people, and have real autonomy over how the engine runs. The team will be agent-first from day one: AI handles the research and the grunt work, so reps spend their time in real conversations with Fortune 2000 buyers. A bit about us: we're backed by Lightspeed and Bessemer, and our customers include Amazon, Instacart, General Mills, Unilever, Mutual of Omaha and PepsiCo. The team will be based in Mumbai (preferred), and for exceptional talent we're open to building the centre in Bangalore. If building a GTM engine from 0 to 1 sounds like your kind of problem, please DM or apply to https://lnkd.in/gBjZbjgQ. We are open to hiring Senior leaders too if they are willing to be hands-on and get into builder mode.

Brent Akamine liked thisBrent Akamine liked thisLandon Opunui introduced himself to a room of 70 Hawaii nonprofits: "I'm the medical director of our nonprofit. And the executive director, the social media manager, and the newsletter drafter..." Everyone laughed. Everyone also nodded. Two-thirds of Hawaii's nonprofits run on budgets under $1 million. Only 27% can pay all their full-time staff a living wage (h/t Hawaii Alliance of Nonprofit Organizations "State of the Sector" report). Meanwhile, funding is getting cut, while need keeps rising. In startups, you learn to go where the pain is most acute. In Hawaii, that's the nonprofits holding up our communities - the safety net is fraying. Last week, a team of volunteers taught our 2nd "AI for Nonprofit" workshop. Nearly everyone left with an agent taking on at least one of those extra jobs - and most left with 2 or 3. If you work at a nonprofit (or .edu or .gov) here and missed it, send me a note. Last week, I had a conversation with ADPList co-founder Felix Lee. He wasn't reaching out with a pitch. He was simply calling individual designers to understand how the platform can continue to bring value to the community. ADPList is one of the biggest design communities on the web. And the co-founder is calling designers individually to hear their problems. That says something. When leaders are on the ground, genuinely listening, not to sell but to understand, the community feels it. Those companies don't always win financially. But they win in something harder to manufacture: loyalty. People will champion them in rooms they'll never be in. I've had the luxury of seeing this at a few places I've worked. I call it a luxury because it's not common. Most leaders aren't willing to step back down into the communities their products built. There's a kind of humility required that doesn't come naturally to everyone. What Felix is doing is the simplest thing and somehow still rare: just listen. Don't assume you know what people need. Go find out.

There’s been a lot of talk lately about how “the design process is dead.” Jenny Wen from Anthropic mentioned it on Lenny’s podcast, and the conversation has been nonstop since. Personally, I don’t think the process is dead. It’s just changing. The traditional flow of discover, research, wireframe, mock, prototype, test wasn’t created because designers loved structure. It existed because building used to be expensive and understanding users took time. A wrong direction could cost real resources, so teams needed gates before committing to a build. That made sense at the time. But that process was built on a big assumption: that validating an idea had to happen before you built anything. That’s no longer true. With AI, small teams can move from idea to working product in a few days. You don’t always need months of research to understand an opportunity. You can build something real, get data, and actually feel how the experience works. That kind of learning is impossible from a Figma file or prototype. I still use Figma and my sketch book to explore visual directions or new interaction ideas. It’s how I think. But lately, I’ve been using AI tools to turn those explorations into real, data-driven prototypes I can validate right away. I get to test the flow, push on the edges, and feel where the design breaks down, sometimes before I even bring it to the team. For me, that’s where design is headed. Less about long, linear steps and more about cycling between exploration and real-world validation. The craft still matters. Taste still matters. Maybe even more now that building is faster and cheaper. The design process didn’t die. It’s shifting. And the best way to keep up is to stay close to the real experience, not just the idea of it.

Proud to see this conversation from the All-In Podcast Summit go live with the NYSE. Kristen Scholer asked the question I get most often - which models actually matter for enterprise work - and my answer on the floor was: both. Frontier models raise the ceiling. Open-weight models bring the cost down enough that enterprises can reach it. Our job is to orchestrate 70+ models in one workspace and route each step to the right one, so a knowledge worker gets the result, not the plumbing. AI has moved from demo to production: real workflows, real budgets, real constraints. That is the moment Genspark was built for - a Microsoft Agent 365 launch partner alongside ServiceNow and Workday, and one of the first to co-sign the open-weight letter from Microsoft and NVIDIA. Thank you to the NYSE and All-In Summit teams. Great to represent Genspark.ai on that floor.

It won’t last much longer, but right now, designers who can code are at a huge advantage (again). While many AI tools are still most powerfully wielded at the command line, a creative who knows their way around the terminal might just be positioned to win this whole thing, or at least to get a head start on redefining their role before someone else does that for them.

The classic design process is evolving and fast. For African tech innovators, this is a wake-up call: the way we build products, design interfaces, and solve problems is changing globally. Leveraging AI, thinking beyond traditional processes, and embracing new design archetypes could be the key to creating world-class products from Africa. 🌍✨ Tech is no longer about following established playbooks, it’s about adapting, experimenting, and innovating faster than ever. #AfricanTech #Innovation #Design #AI #ProductBuilding #FutureOfWork

I’ve delivered website and identity projects starting at $20k and helped a client close $2M+ worth of projects. Signing a project feels good BUT the pressure to deliver hasn’t gone away. What’s changed is how much I clarify before the design starts. That’s where I build confidence in the decisions I’m making, and help the client feel confident in me. One thing I’ve learned: receiving a brief doesn’t mean you understand it. A brief tells you what a client is asking for but you still need to understand why they’re asking for it, and what they expect it to change. Taking it at face value can send you in the wrong direction before you’ve designed a thing. That’s why we work through the brief together during kickoff, alongside: - What the project needs to change for their business. - What we should keep, rethink or avoid. - Visual references, what they like about them, and what won’t fit. - What happens next, so they know what to expect. The aim is for both of us to leave with fewer assumptions and a clearer idea of what success looks like. After going through it myself, clients shouldn’t have to wait for the first design presentation to feel confident they chose you. --- I just uploaded a 12-minute YouTube video walking through the kickoff for a real client project and how I approach these conversations with my clients ENJOY https://lnkd.in/ggcw5tSv
