Firy is turning its Exit Games investment into cash while doubling down on capital efficiency. FIRY, the holding company behind Skillz and other game brands, has sold its 10.5% stake in Exit Games for $55 million, five years after acquiring it for $50 million. The deal gives Firy cash and greater flexibility to invest elsewhere, while Exit Games becomes independent again and continues building Photon, the multiplayer networking technology used by thousands of games. Dean Takahashi reported on Firy’s sale of its stake in Exit Games and what the transaction means for both companies. “We invested in Exit Games in 2021, at what turned out to be the height of the venture market over the last decade. Five years later, the average 2021-vintage fund has distributed five cents on the dollar, and most of that vintage is still sitting in illiquid marks. We are exiting in cash and above our purchase price. Cash back on the balance sheet gives Firy optionality in our other endeavors,” said Andrew Paradise, the founder of Firy. FIRY has completed the sale of its entire stake in Exit Games for $55 million in cash with proceeds received in full. The transaction represents a fully realized cash return of approximately 1.1X FIRY’s original investment, or 22X the average DPI of 2021-vintage US venture capital funds at their five-year mark.
