How Does the Parlay System Work?
The Parlay System is an approach to betting by a punter that, although simple in its construction, still requires some reasoned discipline and structured methodology for it to give its best. This approach considers only even money bets. The idea is to use winnings to bet again in an effort to win a number of times successively. Let us take a real-life example:
- Now, imagine coming to the roulette table with a bankroll of ₹100 and placing a bet of ₹5 on black. Hence, you would win ₹5 in profit and lift your bankroll to ₹105.
- In round two, you would bet only the profit from the previous round, ₹5, on black once more. If good enough, you will win once more and bring your balance up to ₹110.
- In your third bet, you double the profit and bet ₹10. In case of a win, then the bankroll would swell to ₹120.
- You then continue to bet ₹20 in the fourth round, and in case of a win, it should increase your funds to ₹140.
- Then you go into the final round by betting ₹40, and another win would take your total balance to ₹180, adding ₹40 to your winnings.
This is how, under ideal circumstances, one can almost double his or her bankroll after five back-to-back wins. But again, it has to be mentioned that the probability of actually winning five successive bets is only 2.72 percent, which goes to say that this is a rare occurrence. The moment a loss is encountered, it dictates going back to the first step in bets, as per the system's prescriptions.
Drawbacks of the System
While the Parlay system is appealing because it promises to generate quick profits, it also has some disadvantages. This approach depends on winning your first bet. Once you start losing in the first round, this technique can be a killer in draining your bankroll, especially when you cannot string a series of wins.
It also depends upon the hope of getting five successive wins, which is possible but statistically unlikely. This makes bankroll growth pretty erratic and very easily subject to wild swings - something most Indian players are comfortable with. This very often leads to a return to base bets in the face of losses.
Others may want to get more aggressive and combine the Parlay System with Martingale progression after a couple of wins. With this approach, each win should be doubled to recuperate losses faster and increase higher gains. In any case, this combination will make the risk of solid losses greater, provided the winning series does not continue long enough. Against this background, one has to set limits and take good care of his bankroll.
