Client account questions

These answers cover common questions about payments, creditors, due dates, statements, and account changes. Call Client Support when the answer depends on your account.

Why has my monthly payment changed from the original quote?

The payment provided during your consultation is an estimate based on a percentage of your balances. Before your first payment, Client Support verifies your current balances and adjusts the payment when necessary.

Can I make payments directly to creditors outside the program?

If an account is past due, you may make a payment to bring it current. Other scheduled program payments should be made through Money Fit. Paying a participating creditor separately may affect the arrangements attached to your debt management plan, including interest rates, fees, or deferred interest. Call Client Support before making an additional direct payment if you are unsure what to do.

Can I pay more than my scheduled payment?

Yes. Additional payments can shorten the repayment period. You may send a money order or cashier's check, or contact Client Support to discuss adjusting your automatic withdrawal.

Can I change or lower my payment?

Debt management plans are generally structured for completion within 60 months. Lowering the payment can extend the repayment period beyond that timeframe. If you are experiencing hardship, call Client Support to discuss the options available for your account.

What should I do if I cannot make my payment on time?

Call Client Support as soon as possible. A missed payment may affect the arrangements made with participating creditors, and the team can review what may happen next on your account.

Will a debt management plan affect my credit score?

Participation in a debt management plan is not itself a factor in FICO credit-scoring models. Other changes connected with the plan can affect a credit report or score, however:

  • Participating creditors may add a temporary notation to an account while it is included in the plan.
  • Accounts included in a debt management plan are generally closed, which can affect credit utilization, account age, and other scoring factors.
  • Payment history, balances, and information reported by creditors continue to influence credit scores.
Why might I need to change a creditor due date?

A creditor due date may need to align with Money Fit's disbursement schedule so the payment can be posted on time. Creditors generally require the account holder to request a due-date change directly.

Can I add another account to my program?

Contact Client Support to review the account and determine whether it can be added to your debt management plan.

Why are participating creditors still calling me?

Creditors may continue to call while a new debt management proposal is being reviewed. Take note of any information the creditor provides and contact Client Support with important account updates.

Do you send monthly statements?

Your online account is available at any time to review reported balances and transactions. Compare the information in the portal with statements from your creditors and notify Client Support of any differences. Printed statements are mailed when required.

The client portal displays information connected with your Money Fit account. Your creditors remain the source for their current account records, statements, and credit reporting.
