I've spent the last four years helping build what became the world's largest accelerator for venture capital firms.
During that time, the Silicon Valley program I ran contributed to launching over 60% of the world's new VC funds every year. I worked directly with thousands of emerging managers across 13 cohorts, each of 350 fund managers, helping them go from idea to operational fund. I also built and ran the program that trained 1,800 individuals in the fundamentals of venture capital.
Before that, I spent nearly three years as an investor at Praetura Ventures, an Emerging VC fund in the UK, and several years running Accelerate ME accelerator programs for student founders at the University of Manchester, which is now one of the largest student-run acceelrators in the country.
Along the way I became a LinkedIn Top Voice for my content on launching, running, and investing in VC firms. I've posted consistently for years on everything from fund formation to LP strategy to the operational realities of running a lean Fund I. I write for the people doing the work, not the people watching from the sidelines.
I care deeply about making venture capital more accessible, more diverse, and more honest about what it actually takes.

Myrto Lalacos το κοινοποίησεHere is a step-by-step and signal-by-signal guide to building your own AI-powered deal sourcing engine from scratch. Pre-2022: VC deals came either inbound or outbound. Post-2022: VC deals come either inbound, outbound or from AI-detected signals. Deal sourcing is becoming a technological competition in the race to find and connect with top startups. Firms are using AI to scrape and filter data that will point them to new relevant deals for their firms. If you are an emerging VC, you want to be thinking about how you can use technology to stay ahead in your deal sourcing capabilities. That's why I am giving you the blueprint to help you build your own AI-powered deal sourcing engine from scratch. Step 1: Connect to signals Here are 14 publicly available data points that indicate a founder is forming or a startup is emerging. These fall within 5 broad categories. 👉 Formation signals → New company registration → Stealth role added to professional profile → Position departure with no announced next step 👉 Intellectual property signals → New patent filing → Grant awarded → Research paper published 👉 Builder signals → New GitHub repository opened → GitHub activity spike → Hackathon finalists → Product Hunt launch → App store launch 👉 Intent signals → Co-founder search posted publicly → Domain registration 👉 Social graph signals → Investor interaction detected Step 2: Triangulate to separate noise from signal There is not one single signal you can track which will surface all the best deals for you. You need to be tracking multiple. Think about it, a patent filing could be defensive. A domain registration could be a side project. What you are looking for is a cluster: multiple signals from the same person or entity in a short window. Step 3: Filter for thesis fit Once you have a list of active signals and deals start trickling in, you need to run them through your firm’s investment criteria i.e. the stage, sector, geography and/or founder profile your fund invests in. That way you are separating relevant signal and relevancy for your firm from noise. How long does this take to build? A useful internal version tracking enough of the above signals could take 3���6 months depending on the level of time, skill and resource is available within your VC firm. A broader system covering most of these signals could take 6–12 months, with ongoing maintenance and data costs. So you can definitely build this. But it's a lot of work. If you are up for the challenge great, otherwise, Evertrace have already built all of this. Myrto Lalacos το κοινοποίησεShe was earning $22,000 a year and living in a converted closet in Washington, D.C. Today she runs the FIRST fund of funds in the world dedicated to venture studios. Meet Sarah Adams Anderson, Founding Partner of Vault Fund. Sarah started her career answering phones in the United States Senate. She worked three jobs to survive and loved the work, but knew she could not build a life on it. She went back to business school at UCLA Anderson and graduated in 2008, in the middle of the financial crisis. Her classmates were losing offers from Lehman Brothers and Bear Stearns. Names that no longer exist. She landed a role at RBC Capital Markets in San Francisco, one of the few banks still hiring. The Canadian banking system held firm while everything else collapsed around it. She spent five years between RBC and J.P. Morgan in tech investment banking. She was on the front lines of innovation in Silicon Valley and fell in love with the category. Then she moved to Cincinnati and became the second employee at Cintrifuse Capital, a fund of funds backed by P&G, Kroger, Smucker’s, and some of the largest corporations in Ohio. She built it into a $100M+ platform and invested alongside Greycroft, Lerer Hippeau, Atlas, Atomic, and Revolution. But she kept noticing something. The companies coming out of venture studios were outperforming everything else in their portfolio. She mapped the data and found that company creators were producing roughly 53% net IRR at the top quartile, compared to 25% for traditional venture. And almost nobody was investing in them systematically. So she spun out of Cintrifuse in 2021 and launched Vault Fund from Boulder, Colorado. A fund of funds that invests exclusively in venture studios and company-creation vehicles. Today, Vault Fund has invested in several builders across biotech, tech, and deep tech. Sarah has reviewed over 350 venture studios and built one of the deepest datasets in the world on the model. Her take on what separates the best studios from the rest: talent, process, and structure. Myrto Lalacos το κοινοποίησεShe worked in banking in Beirut and knew nothing about venture capital. Today she runs one of the only fund of funds in the world that exclusively backs solo emerging GPs. Meet Raida Daouk El Jisr, Founder and Managing Partner of Amkan Ventures. Raida spent five years in banking at Fransabank in Lebanon. Then a friend who ran a venture fund invited her to try VC. She said she knew nothing about it. The friend told her: “Give it a try. If you like it, great; if not, no harm done.” She fell in love with it. She joined BY Venture Partners, a fund with offices in Beirut and Abu Dhabi, and rose from Associate to Venture Partner. Then she built the entire venture arm of Bridge Capital Holding, a single family office with global holdings across public equity, private equity, and real estate. While advising family offices through her consultancy, Amkan Advisory, she kept seeing the same gap. Strong appetite for venture, but a deep discomfort with emerging managers who had limited track records. In her words: “The gap wasn’t a lack of capital. It was a lack of conviction.” So she launched Amkan Ventures, a fund of funds backing early-stage U.S. emerging managers. Exclusively solo GPs. She named it after her two children, Amaya and Rakan. Her thesis is specific. Solo emerging GPs raising Fund I and Fund II vehicles under $50M. In 2024, she backed only two funds because nothing else met her bar. The Wall Street Journal profiled her in a feature called “New Fund Hunts for VC’s Solo Fliers.” Forbes interviewed her on why solo GPs are still getting backed in one of the toughest fundraising markets in a decade. She is described as the first female-led solo GP fund-of-funds manager from the Gulf region. On how she evaluates emerging GPs: “When you have multiple decision-makers around the table, you drift toward consensus, and consensus rarely produces outliers.” On the current fundraising environment: “The tourists are gone. What’s left are managers who chose to build in one of the toughest environments, and that tells you a lot.” More GPs in my network have asked me for an introduction to Raida than almost any other LP I know. On Monday, we got folks together at Avila Spaces in Lisbon to celebrate year one. 🎉 Our first Annual Meeting brought together the people who made this year possible: our LPs, our portfolio founders, and friends of the fund who believed early in a simple idea. Agentic AI. Start in Portugal, scale in the U.S. A few highlights from the morning: 🔹 Pedro Coutinho opened with the story of our first year, from first commitment to a growing THV family; five investments in year one, and one exit already. 🔹 João Camarate shared how our thesis has sharpened around the agent economy: infrastructure for agents, verticalized agents, and agentic service companies 🔹 Maria Burpee talked about brand and reputation after a year on the ground building, from Lisbon and Porto to Barcelona, New York and San Francisco 🔹 And the best part: our founders took the stage. cloudsweep.ai, Humanos, ExpertGrain and noticed shared what they're building, how it's going, and where they need help. But they raise and operate like emerging managers. 🧪 Yesterday I joined the first Global Venture Studio Innovation Half Day. Thank you Myrto Lalacos and The Emerging VC bringing studio operators, the LPs who back them and the founders building inside them into one room, together with Vineet Shah and Vish Rao Dumpeti. 🙏 Here is how I see the two models side by side. The model: → Emerging VC fund: backs companies other people found. → Venture studio: co-founds, staffs and funds companies from day one. The economics → Fund: lives on the management fee. Median terms are 2% of committed capital and 20% carry (Carta, 2025). A €20M fund has about €400K a year to run the firm. → Studio: lives on the equity it builds. Studios take 15% to 80% at founding, and the median studio budget was about $1.4M a year (GSSN, 2022). One European studio puts the cost of getting a company seed-ready at around €200K. → The payoff studios report: companies reach Series A in about 25 months instead of 56, and 72% get there instead of 42% (GSSN). Self-reported industry data, so read it with care. The team → Fund: 1–3 partners who pick well, see deals others don't, and can raise from LPs. → Studio: operators who build again and again (product, engineering, design, go-to-market), plus a partner who raises the capital. Who it's for → A picker with a network: start a fund. → A builder with a team and a pipeline of problems: start a studio. What they share is the path: → A short track record and the same LP question: who else is in? → A first close built from people who already know you. → Reporting, governance and conflicts on paper before LPs ask. In a studio, that includes how value moves between the studio, its fund and its companies. The label is different. The LP questions are not. 🤝 Missed it?
