The Codex app, installed and set up in one click
The Foxwire AI app installs the Codex desktop app from OpenAI and connects it to your account in one click — no terminal at all. GPT-5.6 and GPT-6, plus Claude, DeepSeek and more inside the same Codex. Prefer the terminal? Codex CLI is one click away in the same app.
GPT-5.6 Sol / Terra / Luna and GPT-6 Astra, plus Claude Opus 5 and Sonnet 5 inside Codex.
Both forms of Codex connect to Foxwire; the app sets up either one.
DeepSeek / Kimi / GLM cost a fraction and keep tool calls + thinking.
Programmatic access to the platform, one account, one balance.

How to install and set up Codex
Pick your OS, then how you want to set up: one click in the desktop app, or two commands in the terminal.
- 1
Download and install the Foxwire AI app
macOS 12+ on Apple Silicon. Open the .dmg and drag Foxwire AI to Applications.
The app is signed and notarized (Apple Developer ID / EV certificate). If your browser says the download is “unverified”, that is its reputation check for new software — choose “Keep”.
- 2
Install the Codex app
On the “Codex — app” row click “Install and set up”: the app downloads the official build (about 500 MB) and puts Codex into Applications. Already installed? It detects it and only connects your account.
- 3
Connect your account
Click “Connect account”: the browser opens to sign in to Foxwire. After you sign in, the app writes ~/.codex/config.toml and auth.json for you and shows “Connected”.
- 4
Open Codex and start working
The row's button becomes “Open Codex”. To switch models, click the model badge on the row, tick the ones you want and pick a default — the app rewrites the config. Codex reads it at launch, so it offers to restart Codex for you.
Work in the terminal instead? The same app has a “Codex CLI” row — one click installs the official binary (no Node.js) and connects the same account. After that just type codex in any terminal.Codex CLI row in the same app
In the Codex app: open it, check the model name at the bottom and ask anything — the reply is billed to your Foxwire balance. In the terminal: run /status, the provider should be Foxwire.

Every model id below works as the model = value in ~/.codex/config.toml (or via the app's model picker) — not just GPT. In the Codex desktop app the list is limited to 8 entries (see FAQ).

FAQ
Download the Foxwire app and click “Install and set up” on the “Codex — app” row: on macOS it installs the Codex app for you, on Windows it opens the Microsoft Store page. Then it connects your account and writes the config. No terminal at all. The same app also installs Codex CLI in one click if you prefer the terminal.
No. Both the app and our install script use OpenAI's official native Codex build.
The app detects an existing install and only connects your account — nothing is reinstalled. You can also switch models from the app later. Prefer not to? Use the manual tab.
In the app: click the model badge on the Codex row, tick the models you want and pick a default. Manual setup: change the model = line in ~/.codex/config.toml, or run /model inside Codex.
No. You only need a Foxwire account and an API key — Codex talks to Foxwire, and usage is billed to your Foxwire balance.
Yes — top up your Foxwire balance and pay per token. No subscription, no ChatGPT plan.
No — one config file points Codex at Foxwire. Everything else in Codex stays the same.
A subscription is a fixed monthly fee with weekly usage caps. Here you pay only for tokens you actually use — heavy weeks cost more, idle weeks cost nothing. And you get Claude, DeepSeek and others in the same Codex.
Same engine, two shells, one config — so whatever you set up works for both. The app is a normal desktop window and needs no terminal; the CLI lives in the terminal and is handy inside a project folder. Foxwire AI sets up either one: both have their own row.
OpenAI limits which model names the desktop app lists. The three GPT-5.6 models show under their own names; the app maps up to five more models of your choice onto the remaining slots. The CLI has no such limit.
It makes Codex use the API key from auth.json instead of a ChatGPT sign-in. Without it a leftover ChatGPT session can silently take over.
