Achnamara, Argyll & Bute
This Arts and Crafts-style house was built in 1929 and has been owned by the same family ever since. It has been used as a holiday let and cameoed as a film set – hardly surprising given its majestic stature and tall white elevations. It is nestled in the hillside overlooking Kilmory Bay at the mouth of Loch Sween before it joins the sea. It has seven bedrooms, three bathrooms and a large sitting-dining room. Nearly a hectare (two acres) of land wraps around the house, and a well-trodden path leads down to the beach. £875,000.Strutt & Parker, 07384 826 784Photograph: Strutt & Parker
Craster, Northumberland
In this small fishing village on the Northumberland Coast National Landscape, eight miles from Alnwick and on the coastal path to the ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle, there’s a string of cottages on the harbour. Here there’s a two-bedroom stone-built terraced former fisher’s cottage that has been redecorated, with a new roof and no onward chain. It is so close to the seafront you could pick up a pebble and throw it into the water. The village is known for its smoked kippers, lively local arts scene and bird watching. £475,000. Sidmouth, Devon
On the corner of Sidmouth promenade, along the seafront, is a three-storey apartment. The long kitchen has a bay window overlooking the sea, while the large sitting room-cum-dining room is double aspect with glass doors that open on to a balcony overlooking the bustling walkway below. There are four bedrooms. The property has plenty of personality, with a spiral stair winding up through a hole in the timber-clad ceiling of the living room, and a wide internal window that opens up views from the kitchen. £750,000.Wilkinson Grant, 01392 875 000Photograph: Wilkinson Grant
Hoylake, Merseyside
Down the far end of this coastal hotspot is a two-row strip of trophy homes facing on to the sandy beach of the Dee Estuary on one side, and Royal Liverpool Golf Course on the other. Behind electric gates is a five-bedroom house in an L shape with private access on to the golf course. On the ground floor is the entrance hall, a study and a games room (in the integrated garage). At the back is the kitchen, living room and dining space, all zoned, with glazed floor-to-ceiling doors and panels looking out, and opening out, on to the patio terrace. £1.9m. Portsmouth, Hampshire
Royal Haslar Waterside is being carved out of an old naval hospital on the Solent. The Georgian complex opened in 1753 to treat convalescing and wounded sailors. The £200m development, across 25 hectares (62 acres), will bring 550 new homes to the Gosport side of Portsmouth harbour. Trinity House is the repurposing of a Grade II-listed quadrangle building and the latest focus of the scheme. Here 146 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments are available. There is a one-bedroom flat for sale on the second floor facing the Solent. £270,000. Royal Haslar, 023 9200 2087Photograph: Royal HaslarExplore more on these topics
