Has AI permanently eroded the US job market for Software Engineering?
Do you think more companies will opt to hire overseas workers since coding can be done via AI? Do you consider coding to be the most difficult part of Software Engineering?
Married people with children? What are your annual expenses?
I was just calculating and found that I am spending around $140K annually! - my cars are fully paid, no monthly payment - mortgage and housing expenses is less than 5K NYC suburbs - my children don't even go to school - multiple pets: cats and dog I used to think having 250K income could make me retire early, but I don't think so anymore. If you are living with less than 100K , how are you. TC : 280K...Read more

Girlfriend is using sex as leverage for my job search and I can’t tell if I’m winning or losing
My girlfriend basically turned my career into a performance incentive plan. She frames it as “motivation.” And I’m not gonna lie, I’m enjoying the benefits. But it still feels a little fucked up when I zoom out. She straight up told me that if I land Google or Anthropic she’ll finally give me backdoor access. So now every time I sit down to prep, I'm thinking about that. Anyway, unrelated, I have a Google interview scheduled and I need help. Seriously help me please. Whatever I'll need to clear the bar. Now back to feeling concerned. Is this normal behavior? Or have I gotten myself into something fucked up? @Google @anthropic @meta...Read more
Who else wishes to Scam Altman and Dario 'y'all be unemployed' failing massively
I'm secretly hoping both OpenAI and Anthropic fails IPO and finally causes the bubble to pop. Had enough of these entitled geniuses predicting how jobs will be lost and their company will make trillions from it. All the while stealing art, books and work of others and fake pretending to care about job losses....Read more
We've had Meta related social networks and my opinion is that there's been really little innovation in this space -- and I truly do think the market / humanity has a desire for a new or different kind of social network that doesn't function in the same way that FB, Linkedin or IG do.
I mean I might be completely wrong with this so I'm asking on Blind. I think the world is sort of getting tired of IG just as we did of Meta, and I think the future especially with an aging population is going to ultimately be more and more open to switch off to a different kind of social networking platform.
What are your guys' thoughts? I was personally wondering if we might be more interested in the future with actually more text based (rather than image based) social media, augmented by AI...but maybe this is a stupid idea.
Do you like / are you happy with IG/FB? If you want innovation or change here what would you want to see?...Read more
Worried about layoffs or feeling stuck in your software engineering career?
If you’re worried about layoffs or feel like your career has stalled, what’s your primary strategy to improve your situation? Vote below, and if you’re comfortable, share what’s working (or not working) in the comments.
I see 600k+ offers for e5. Can you sell all of your stocks every year or is it capped at 25%? Esp with the 40% valuation increase every year, yall are rich on paper. Are you as rich IRL? 🤑🤑 TC 550k E5
This might sound like a no-brainer but here are my thoughts and would really like to hear community’s perspective Firstly, Meta E5 - importantly don’t want to go there so not worth discussing. So it really comes down to 📌 vs OpenAI Both for FullStack roles Pinterest: - IC15 : 530k (for Y1 atleast) no real concerns with pay - Greenfield product/team within CoreAI space - looks really interesting & have a lot of opportunity to learn and grow imo ; considering the company’s recent shift and investment into AI space (like every other company out there) - REMOTE (have a new born so really helpful) OpenAI: - L4 : ~560k (not much difference in pay tbh) - Couple of teams to choose from and both sounded boring work - 3 day in-office - No real upside joining now? Already a Trillion dollar company - Can’t do 60-70hr/week grind (Is it really that bad? Or all hype?) L5 at Snap - all my team left, so morale took a big hit and really don’t want to stay here. Leaning towards taking up PINS, enjoy Remote work with my new born, try for a couple years especially with front-loaded stocks and see where these ai labs stand after going public and then try again. But on the other hand its OpenAI and will I regret not taking it ? would really like to hear others thoughts....Read more

The richest medical doctors in the world: 🥇Giancarlo Devasini, plastic surgery, $89.3B NW 🥈Priscilla Chan, pediatrics, $37.1B NW 🥉Miriam Adelson, internal medicine & drug addiction, $34.6B NW
Is it possible to reach Google level coding interview proficiency in 90 days? I just got a rejection and I feel determined to do something about it.. Google and other Frontier Labs is now my target.. I can stay up to day with Agentic engineering and in fact I aced the Domain/SD round in Google, but fell short of LC as I have never (sic) prepared truly seriously for LC, especially hard/DP/graphs. So my strategy now is do LC everyday from NC150, do it well multiple times, and then start another loop in 3mo (my cool down period) and other Frontier Labs. LC is table stakes, Agentic Engineering is from my passion abt the domain, and rest is all good. Is that feasible? Is my plan 90% fool proof?...Read more
Can you realistically survive as an IC after 40 in the AI era? AI is reducing the gap between junior and senior engineers. So what additional value can a 40+ engineer bring compared to a 30-year-old with 7–8 years of experience? It feels like the experience gap is getting smaller, while younger engineers often have an advantage in terms of time, energy, and willingness to work long hours. At best, even if you remain employed, does your compensation eventually become stagnant?...Read more
In my late 20s: should i take more risk or stability
don't particularly like my team/org, but my TC is admittedly great for my COL and apple has historically solid job security. I kind of want to work at a company with better career growth and in NYC maybe. But in this shit market where companies are laying off their staff left and right i find myself wondering if i would be sacrificing too much. i understand there is no single right answer but wanted to hear your thoughts...Read more
