What will the word "work" mean in an AI saturated future employment landscape?
Two things caught my attention this weekend that made me question what "work" actually will mean in the future.
If we abstract what "Work" actually is, it is to contribute to the society we are part of (add value) and in doin so set ourselves up for success and security (get paid).
Bill Gates predicts that "artificial intelligence may soon automate almost everything—and with it, usher in a 2-day work week in less than a decade." — Fortune.com
I suspect he is talking bout work as we know it today, not what it will become.
If you have followed the Ghibli / AI discussion over the last weeks, there is a clash between the AI generated Ghibli inspired artwork and the official, handcrafted Ghibli work.
And it made me wonder if we are going to see a growing appreciation of the process as much as the outcome. So yes, AI can also do Ghibli, but it is too easy, so we will appreciated the handiwork that goes into the real thing.
I will give you an example.
Wing, the beatboxer, can make some incredible sounds using only his voice, but I am sure an AI solution could create a similar or an even better, more complex set.
But it would in no way be as entertaining as watching Wing do it with a combination of talent and hundreds hours of dedicated training.
Would I pay for an AI beat boxing concert? Absolutely not.

Would I pay to see Wing? Hellya!
And that leads me to my final thought: Things we do for hobbies, we often enjoy the process of more than the result.
Maybe we need to look closer at our hobbies as the future of our contribution to society.
With that in mind, put some headphones on and enjoy WING's set: Dopamine.
I believe this push for AI, is a cleaver design to hedge this collapse of industries, as this billionaire class of businessmen slowly replace our workforce over the next five years. Together, now with Trump's stated plan to allow power plant production(s) along side a business development communities, like smart cities, will allow a few to operate well in this country. Today, eighty-five percent of Americans struggle to participate in this economy. Multinational corp's only ever pander to the top 15% of any market. With fifty years of mergers and acquisition(s) activity(s), private equity takeovers, government shutdowns, together with government deregulation and antitrust activity(s), Trump's tariffs are merely the icing on the cake, to put the finishing touches on this economy MARK applied physics JOIN ME instead Let us to RETURN to the FARMs of old (any age) Outlaw the CORPORATE form Invert the HIERARCHY of POWER in government and usher in some new age of understanding of most things https://www.academia.edu/120841965/LETTER_OF_INVITATION
