PR Blah Blah
Having navigated the creative circuit for well over a decade; a time before the rise and reliance of smart tech, phones and devices (both advantageous and distracting)... I, today during a personal period of transition and transformation, make the moments, to reflect and consider what collaboration and connection looks like, now.
From the eyes of a self-confessed Fashion-Lifestyle & Beauty PR pro, ploughing through new terrains, having fought for a long time, to validate just how intrinsic my expertise is, to the mix. And without judgement. No more judgment, to justify my value. I, instead, take a strategic step back, to look ahead. And I remind myself of my intention. I recall and re direct my own path, and move forward- proud of my accomplishments and accolades as brand storyteller. Finally, it all alligns.
During this decade of disruption and interference, I am clear...more than ever before, that people - the publics and our relationships with them, really do make the world go around.
This is by far ‘superficial’ for those cultivating and delivering news from a place of mind full curation. Where it all makes sense- concept to campaign.
... Not money, that’s just a construct and tool for exchange. But real relationships, the building of, ‘sustainable’ conversation and interaction that make us feel connected. This in my humble opinion and experience, has always been the magic key...
To co create some thing better. Together.
It’s Process. And I am clearer than ever, having audited and assessed the media - marketing and sales landscape. That what I in fact do is better described as
‘core communication’.
A holistic discipline that reclaims and reframes PR, for today’s message makers.
I feel now, more than ever, with the rise of us all as ‘self brands and publicists’ that I must truly distinguish my cause, with greater conviction. Because it’s a phenomenally crowded world out there. With more than enough room for us all, if we stay true to ourselves. That’s authenticity. Right there. We don’t have to work so hard to show it. We are it, a full expression of what we do and how we ‘show up’. And the more that’s generated from this way of being and seeing, the more we can learn, observe and progress.
Again, and I digress - ah the joys of being predominantly generative than structural ( another article, for another time) like most things we reinvent, the fundamentals remain. It’s the place we stand from, that gives us a new perspective. A more elevated birds eye view; expansive and limitless.
So, let’s invert PR to RP and an alternative way to work from. A Retrospective Perspective. Perhaps this lands with you, perhaps it does not. I ask you at least stick with me a little longer on this one, all the same..
Yes, I reminisce on how public relationships used to be. Not with regret or resentment but of - gratitude to have learned it from the best and built a career out of it. I love shining the spot light on the possibility good PR brings, when applied with care.
That today, fully equipped with digital intelligence to empower and accelerate the dissemination of countless key messages, we also bring in balance. To catch our breath, contribute as an educator of our integrated disciplines, and strive with the human touch.
Subsequently, and from a theoretical standpoint, I also urge you to refresh; ‘above, through and below the line’ thinking. Reconfigure it as ‘circular’, less linear.
More whole, beautifully blurred and blended. Where we, the new age creative communicators, content creators, image makers and designers become one incredible skill set, more community driven, and collaborative, than ever before.
PR as we once knew it, may well be playing out it’s last melody, but there is a B-side. A newly formed chorus in communication, where we all join to sing, using our own voices, centre stage.
With thanks to my self-belief coach, and special projects partner, Sarah (power) Page. Barbara Brunner, for your belief in me to take care of you and your brand. As well as your intro to Jamie Granados, my ‘core communication’ partner for dedicated workshops.
May our stories, expressed with heart. Continue...
