Susanna Pollack shared thisEvery parent I talk to says a version of the same thing: they want to be part of their kid's gaming life, and they're not sure how to start. Closing that gap takes more than good intentions. It takes research parents can trust, tools they can actually use, and partners willing to invest in getting this work into people's hands. The white paper we released today is part of it, developed with support from Tencent, to foster more balanced, evidence-based conversations about video games and the well-being of children and young people. The paper, written by Dr. Rachel Kowert, comes with free resources for families, and workshops roll out across the U.S. and U.K. this fall. This white paper marks the next phase of Raising Good Gamers, a Games for Change program supported by Tencent Games. This is a shared responsibility, and it's bigger than any one organization. If you're a company, funder, or organization that wants to help expand this work, we'd love to hear from you. When parents sit alongside their children, ask questions, and pick up a controller themselves, something changes. Anxiety gives way to curiosity, and conflict gives way to conversation. Middle school is when young people start figuring out who they are, yet most are designed for little kids or teenagers, leaving early adolescents overlooked. This panel explores what developmental science reveals about stories that foster friendship, belonging, identity, and change. Our Chief of Staff, Eden Xenakis, will join Kellie Lu from Filament Games, Brendon Trombley from Games for Change, and Yalda Tehranian-Uhls from the Center for Scholars & Storytellers at UCLA to discuss how narrative media and game design can ease the middle school transition and give kids a steadier foundation for growth and learning. For #SwissDO, the connection with sport is particularly interesting. Susanna Pollack liked thisSusanna Pollack liked thisI’ve had a wonderful few days at Mipcom and coming away feeling hopeful for the future of children’s content but there’s no denying our industry is navigating a period of significant change. The kids’ TV market is challenging, commissioning is slower and the routes to getting great ideas on screen are shifting. We all feel it. Another reboot, great ideas stuck in development hell for years, creatives being over ruled by accountants and the ghosting….OMG, the ghosting!!! Seriously people, respond to emails. It’s just common decency. Having spent many years in this industry, from commissioning and executive production to writing and developing shows, I know that great projects rarely happen in isolation. They happen when people are passionate about an idea, bring different strengths to the table and are willing to build something together. And these past few days have shown me that creators are fired up, they’re no longer waiting for that illusive commission and are taking the industry on. We’re looking beyond traditional models, exploring partnerships we might not have considered before and finding new routes to market. And while the distribution models may change, one thing will always stay the same. Kids want great content. Content is king! We have a responsibility to our audience to champion brilliant stories, characters and worlds that make children’s content so special. The market may be changing, but the creative opportunity is still there. Let’s keep talking, keep connecting and keep finding new ways to bring brilliant ideas to life. On my final evening, I sat with friends that I met when I first came into this industry. We all worked on some fabulous shows together and we reminisced about the ‘good old days’. 35 years of friendship. We’ve seen a lot of change in kids tv over the years but we’re all still here, making it work. Whatever gets thrown at this industry, we always seem to bounce back! Here’s to many more conversations that turn into collaborations, that turn into great content. If we connected at MIPCOM, it was lovely to see you. If we didn’t, let’s not wait until next year. My inbox is open, and I’m always up for a good conversation about children’s content, creative development and what comes next. #MIPCOM #KidsTV #ChildrensContent #Animation #Collaboration #ContentDevelopment

Susanna Pollack liked thisSusanna Pollack liked thisWe’re thrilled to welcome Katie Stone Perez as our new Executive Director! Katie joins Child’s Play after more than two decades at Xbox, where she played a pivotal role in launching and shaping programs that transformed how millions of people experience play, including Fuzion Frenzy, Xbox Live Arcade, Kinect, ID@Xbox, and Gaming For Everyone. Her career has been defined by a commitment to expanding access to play and building inclusive gaming communities. With a background in child psychology and personal experience navigating pediatric cancer within her own family, Katie brings a deep understanding of the emotional and therapeutic value of play. Her passion for supporting kids, combined with her industry expertise, makes her uniquely suited to lead Child’s Play into its next era of growth. “Play is a fundamental human need,” said Perez. “I’ve seen firsthand how games can help children push past pain, connect with others, and find moments of joy even on the hardest days. Child’s Play has never shied away from the systemic challenges surrounding therapeutic play, and the team has built innovative, courageous programs that are reshaping pediatric care. I’m honored to help expand that impact.” In her new role, Katie will oversee Child’s Play’s hospital partnerships, therapeutic gaming initiatives, research investments, and community engagement efforts. She will also guide the organization’s strategic development as it continues to grow its network hospitals worldwide. “We are thrilled to welcome Katie to Child’s Play,” said the Board of Directors. “Her leadership, creativity, and deep commitment to children’s wellbeing will strengthen our mission and help ensure that more pediatric patients experience the healing power of play.”

Susanna Pollack liked thisSusanna Pollack liked thisCan games help transform agrifood systems? Absolutely. On 14 October, during the FAO Science and Innovation Forum 2026, I will be organizing together with my colleagues in the Office of Innovation an exciting session exploring how serious games can foster learning, collaboration and systems thinking for agrifood systems transformation. Together, the FAO Office of Innovation, FAO e-Learning Academy,World Food Programme (WFP), Wageningen University & Research (WUR) and Games for Change have designed an interactive experience where participants become active players, confronting real-world challenges, navigating trade-offs and testing innovative solutions through play. Among the featured experiences: 🌱 AGRINNO 2050 - a FAO Office of Innovation developed game on innovation governance in agrifood systems 🌍CiFoS - a board game challenging players to redesign food systems for both human and planetary health 💡 Interactive digital experiences including Hope's Adventure and FAO e-learning Academy simulations What I find particularly powerful is that games create a safe space to explore complexity, experiment with decisions, understand different perspectives and spark meaningful dialogue. In a world where agrifood challenges are increasingly interconnected, these approaches can help us learn and innovate together. Looking forward to exchanging ideas with colleagues and partners on how game-based methodologies can support sustainable and inclusive transformation. For those who missed this panel at Games for Change: - bootstrapping - friends and family - publisher funding (best for late stage projects) - federal, state, and local government grants - platform funding - VC funding - non traditional funders Themes that kept coming up => funding is modular and most likely you are putting together multiple sources of funding, raising funding is hard, think of your game as a business, you need to show traction, build with your community, we are in the middle of a disruption Thanks to Mitu Khandaker ✨ Games for Change NYC , Ben Kvalo Alexandra Takei Matthew Cohen Krystel Theuvenir Peter Schmidt

Gaming is no longer just a form of entertainment – it’s a global community builder. 🎮 The latest episode of Expert Voices – featuring Lindsay Barnett, CEO of Playground Productions – and hosted by our SVP of Strategy and Engagement, Ryan Kite-Hedges, dives into how video games like Backyard Baseball foster connection within and across generations: 🎙️ “What we have noticed is it’s their community now – there was a big shift after Covid of Gen Z and Gen Alpha going to video games for their communities. Something that we are thinking about now…is how do you make sure these are safe communities, and how do you make sure people can also have the ability to interact outside of gaming?”

Parents looking for help with their kid's gaming are five times more likely to find fear than facts. That's not a hot take. It's the headline finding from a new study of more than 200,000 articles and posts across 15 countries. At Games for Change 2026, Lewis and Greg sat down with three people working to close that gap. 🎙️ Susanna Pollack, President of Games for Change, on why "reimagining play" is bigger than a festival theme. 🎙️ Dr. Rachel Kowert, Research Director at Games for Change, on the research behind Raising Good Gamers, and why treating "online" and "offline" as separate worlds is a mistake. 🎙️ Arana Shapiro of Raising Good Gamers, on turning that research into a free program families can actually use. The throughline: games are not the threat the headlines make them out to be. Handled well, they're one of the best tools we have for connection, learning, and resilience. And now there's data to back it up. If you make games, this is the research you've been waiting for. New episode is live now! Full conversation on Player Driven, link in the comments. 👇

Last month, we ran the first Raising Good Gamers parent workshop in the US. When parents walked in, we asked them to write down one question they had about gaming. The answers were consistent: "How do I stay involved if I don't understand the games?" "Why does my child get so upset when they have to stop playing?" "How do I know who they're talking to online?" What came through clearly is that parents understand why their children love gaming. They see the friendships, the creativity, the confidence. What's harder is finding a way into that part of their children's lives. How to start the conversation. How to set limits without conflict. How to engage rather than just monitor. Parents aren't disengaged; they just don't know where to start. After the workshop, 82% of participants felt much more confident talking to their children about gaming. 81% found it very or extremely valuable. For most, the most useful part was the family gaming contract, a tool for building shared expectations at home. Yesterday, at the Games for Change London Summit, we announced the next phase of this work with support from Tencent . Workshops and resources grounded in global research, led by Research Director Rachel Kowert, will begin reaching schools and community youth organizations in the US and UK this fall. The full research findings will be revealed at the Games for Change Festival in New York on July 21-22.
