I enjoyed joining fellow Mustangs on a panel moderated by Dean of the SMU Cox School of Business Todd Milbourn, alongside Alexandra Dillard Lucie and Robert Dimson, for a thoughtful discussion on leadership, innovation and preparing talent for a rapidly changing global economy. It was especially special to reconnect with Marty Flanagan, Invesco’s former CEO and a proud SMU alum, whose opening remarks set the tone for an evening focused on community and momentum. Grateful for the opportunity to give back to my alma mater and to spend time with alumni, students, parents and friends helping shape SMU’s next chapter. Go Mustangs!

Robert Dimson liked thisRobert Dimson liked thisToday, my son Andrew Cox is being sworn in as an attorney, and I couldn’t be prouder. After earning his undergraduate degree at the The University of Georgia, graduating from the University of Georgia School of Law in May, and passing the bar, he has reached a moment that represents years of hard work, discipline, and determination. As proud as I am of those accomplishments, what stands out most to me is Andrew’s courage. He is willing to take on a challenge, put in the work, and see what he can accomplish. I saw that quality in him long before law school. In middle school, Andrew told his mom and me that he had joined a school play. We knew he needed rides to rehearsal, but he shared very little about his role. When we arrived to watch the performance, we discovered he had the second-leading role. We were amazed by his performance, the preparation behind it, and the praise he received. He had taken on that challenge entirely on his own initiative and quietly done the work to be ready. That same commitment has been evident throughout his academic career, from grade school through college and law school. His four years of high school wrestling also helped shape the person he is today. Wrestling demands discipline, resilience, accountability, and the courage to step onto the mat knowing you will be tested. Those lessons reach far beyond the sport. Andrew is now putting those qualities to work as an Associate Attorney at Scrudder Bass Quillan Horlock Lazarus & Adele, where he previously served as a legal intern. I’m excited to watch him grow in his career, and—with a proud dad’s bias—I believe they are lucky to have him. He brings a willingness to learn, the determination to do the work, and the courage to take on difficult challenges. Today, his mom and I are celebrating both what he has accomplished and the person he has become. Congratulations, Andrew. I am so proud to be your dad. Watching you reach this moment means more than I can put into words.
