Jeff Jenkins shared thisWhat happens when you’ve spent years playing shortstop, but your new team really needs a second baseman? That’s one of the conversations happening in our house as my son settles into his new baseball team here in Arkansas. He’s learning new teammates, new coaches and figuring out where he fits. And sometimes that means playing a position that isn’t his first choice. Funny how much that sounds like our life at work. We often join new teams because of what we’ve accomplished before. But what made us successful somewhere else isn’t always what the new team needs most. I’m learning that myself at Sam's Club. Sometimes you lead the play. Sometimes you help someone else make it. The trick is knowing what the team needs from you. Now if I could just convince my son that second base is actually a pretty great place to play. 😉 Any advice from fellow baseball parents? #leadership #careers #management #hr #family #sports #management

Jeff Jenkins shared thisThanks, Nick Tran, for the shoutout! Love seeing great teams come together to create something fun, unexpected, and meaningful for our members. Proud of what we’re building together! (Your jacket is in the mail!)Jeff Jenkins shared thisI rarely post about the same brand two days in a row, but I like it when a brand creates something that crosses over into a larger concept that clearly delivers a commercial message. Walmart’s Walton Goggins and Sam’s Club’s Jason Sudeikis collaborated to launch a membership that combines Walmart+ and Sam’s Club Plus. Goggins sings an updated version of the 1984 Members Only jingle, then writes Sudeikis a letter and sends him a Members Only jacket. It works like a TV universe, where the same characters show up across stories. That only pays off because both brands stayed consistent. Walmart has made Goggins the Walmart guy, and Sam’s Club is doing the same with Sudeikis. Walmart knows that whichever membership you hold by October shapes where you shop in November, so they are timing this push perfectly. 38% of shoppers are “value seekers” who use five or more cost-saving tactics, and they plan to spend 12% more than everyone else. So the shoppers hunting for value are also the ones spending most especially during this economy. People want brands to entertain them, and Walmart gets that. A Muppets mini-musical for Christmas, an ’80s jingle for a membership, and Goggins at the center of it all, a character people now look forward to seeing. Shout out William White, Jeff Jenkins + the Walmart and Sam’s Club teams 👏
-
Jeff Jenkins shared thisYour Sam's Club membership can pay for itself with ONE Thanksgiving dinner. 🦃 (oh yeah...and it comes with free Walmart+!) And here’s the kicker. You can have the whole meal ready in under TWO HOURS. Your guests might never know you didn’t make it from scratch. (Your secret is safe with us.) This year, Sam’s Club members can feed 16 people Thanksgiving dinner for about $10 per person. Turkey, ham, sides, dessert, even a charcuterie board. Now THAT is how you make membership a no-brainer! We’re obsessed with delivering more value to our members. Amazing items at incredible prices, incredible quality, and more time back to enjoy the things that matter. Huge shoutout to our Myron Frazier and the entire merchandising team for making this possible Now the important Thanksgiving debate: What are you doing with all those extra hours you’re NOT spending in the kitchen? #food #holidays #blackfriday #business #strategy https://lnkd.in/g7t_9755Sam’s Club expands Thanksgiving meal, keeping cost under $10 a person as inflation weighs on consumersSam’s Club expands Thanksgiving meal, keeping cost under $10 a person as inflation weighs on consumers

Jeff Jenkins shared thisIt takes a village. This one might have taken two. Bringing Sam's Club Plus and Walmart+ together sounds simple when you say it fast. Making it happen was anything but. This launch brought together teams across Walmart and Sam’s Club, Marketing and Membership, Operations and Tech, creative, media, social, comms, agencies and so many others. A special thank you to Seth, Deepak, William, Tracy and the entire Walmart team. From the beginning, this felt like one team working toward one goal. Our teams challenged each other, and everyone was willing to look beyond their own brand or piece of the business to see the bigger opportunity for our members and customers. That spirit showed up everywhere. People shared ideas, changed plans, solved problems together and moved incredibly fast. Some were working late last night. Others were in before sunrise this morning. Many have been at it for months. To everyone who had a hand in this: thank you. You made something really complicated look a whole lot easier than it was. There are days you get to stand on your desk and celebrate the team. Today is one of them. Two Good. One heck of a village. #marketing #branding #media #membership #loyalty #leadership #branding #retail

Jeff Jenkins shared thisToday, we’re bringing the Sam's Club Plus and Walmart+ memberships together for $120. That means $120 brings together two iconic brands and a pretty remarkable list of benefits: free delivery, free tire installation, 2% Sam’s Cash back, fuel savings at 17k+ locations, free video streaming, and member's only prices Why did we do it? Our members asked us to. Adding Walmart+ was the #1 requested benefit from our members. To me, that’s member-centricity in its simplest form. Listen. Then actually do something about it. There are plenty of things competitors can copy. Bringing together the unique strengths of Walmart and Sam’s Club isn’t one of them. Our goal has been to make membership such a no-brainer that the value speaks for itself. Huge thanks to the teams that made this happen across every facet of our business! Two memberships. More benefits. $120. Or, as Jason & Walton might say… Two Good. #retail #leadership #marketing #CX #management #future #loyalty

Jeff Jenkins shared thisTurns out my son and I have something in common these days. We're both the new kid on the team. This weekend, he picked up with a baseball team here in Arkansas where he didn't know a soul. He went 2-for-4, played wherever the coach needed him, and even got called in to close a game after two months off the mound. That last part was a little rocky, but he battled through it. As a dad watching from the stands, I could relate more than he probably realized. I'm a few months into my own new team at Sam's Club, and it's funny how much the same rules apply. You want to make a good first impression, but you also have to learn how the team plays, earn trust, and figure out where you can help most. And occasionally, you get thrown into a situation where you have to figure things out as you go. I've coached enough baseball to know that great teams aren't built on talent alone. They're built on people who show up for each other, especially when things don't go perfectly. What's the best advice you've received about joining a new team? #leadership #careers #coaching #sports #humanresources #management

Jeff Jenkins shared thisFACT: The most useful meeting on my calendar doesn’t have a conference room. It happens walking the aisles of a Sam's Club, talking with associates and watching how our members actually shop. And while I love a good PowerPoint (okay, maybe love is a strong word), there’s nothing quite like seeing the business through the eyes of the people who experience it every day. One of my favorite things about club visits is how much I learn from our associates. They know what members love, what frustrates them, and which of our great ideas might not work quite as well in real life as they did in a conference room. And they’re usually pretty good at telling you, especially if you ask the right questions and then actually listen. I think that’s something we can all use a little more of, regardless of our role. Getting closer to the people doing the work has a funny way of making you better at yours. Shoutout to Steve Schrobilgen for all the leading the charge and helping me continue to learn! What’s something you’ve learned by getting out from behind your desk? #leadership #careers #retail #operations #manangement

Jeff Jenkins shared thisDuolingo's owl is getting a TV show....well YouTube show. Somewhere, the California Raisins are screaming "We were first!" I love this story. Duolingo is taking its slightly unhinged green owl and turning him into the star of an animated series. And while there's a lot of talk about brands becoming entertainment as the next big thing, I think it's fun to remember that marketers have been playing in this space for decades. The California Raisins had their own Saturday morning cartoon in the '80s, and the GEICO Cavemen were so popular they landed a sitcom. Granted, that one didn't last long, but you have to admire the ambition of turning an insurance commercial into prime-time television. What I love about Duolingo is how naturally this next chapter fits the character they've spent years building. Duo already has fans, a personality, and a pretty impressive ability to make people feel guilty about missing a Spanish lesson. It's a great reminder that the best marketing ideas aren't always new. Sometimes they're familiar ideas brought to life in a fresh way. What other brand mascot would you actually tune in to watch? #branding #entertainment #media #marketing #contentstrategy #socialmedia https://lnkd.in/ghEA9uMx

Jeff Jenkins liked thisJeff Jenkins liked thisTwo Walmart displays. Two approaches to gifting. Same $15 price. A recent visit gave me a couple of shopper marketing examples worth sharing. Old Spice x NFL • “The Greatest Smell in the NFL” gives grooming gift sets a fan connection. • Football string lights bring the sport and the season together. • A “$50 Value” message alongside a $15 price makes the value clear. Procter & Gamble @ National Football League (NFL) DAISE Beauty • Four different trios, all $15. Pick a favorite without comparing prices. • Shelf strips explain each trio and its benefits. • No holiday headline needed. The boxed sets already look ready to give. What I liked: both made the gift decision simpler. Old Spice offered a gift for the football fan. DAISE offered a choice of beauty trios at one clear price. One leans on knowing the recipient’s interests. The other gives the shopper options. Which approach would make you more likely to pick one up? Path to Purchase Institute

Jeff Jenkins liked thisJeff Jenkins liked thisLUXURY IS NOT ABOUT BEING EVERYWHERE. IT IS ABOUT BEING WHERE IT MATTERS. In the world of luxury, retail presence is more than a distribution strategy. It is a statement of prestige, exclusivity and brand positioning. An overview of reported global store networks reveals striking differences among the world’s most prestigious fashion houses. GLOBAL LUXURY RETAIL FOOTPRINT • Chanel — 650+ boutiques* • Gucci — 497 stores • Louis Vuitton — 460+ stores • Prada — 423 stores • Burberry — 410 stores • Dolce & Gabbana — approximately 400 stores • Hermès — 294 stores • Dior — 280 stores • Celine — 178 stores • Goyard — 38 stores Indicative figures, largely reported for 2025–2026. Reporting periods and store definitions vary; Chanel’s figure includes beauty and jewellery boutiques. THE STRATEGIC PARADOX OF LUXURY The most powerful luxury brands do not necessarily operate the largest retail networks. Exclusivity creates desirability. Limited distribution can reinforce scarcity, brand mystique and pricing power. Scale creates influence. Larger networks strengthen geographical coverage, customer engagement and global visibility. Experience creates differentiation. Flagship boutiques increasingly function as immersive brand destinations rather than conventional points of sale. Control protects prestige. Selective distribution, exceptional service and disciplined brand management remain fundamental to long-term value creation. For investors, luxury retail networks must therefore be assessed beyond store counts: productivity per boutique, operating margins, customer lifetime value and brand equity are equally critical. THE ULTIMATE LUXURY IS NOT ACCESSIBILITY. IT IS DESIRABILITY. In an industry built on aspiration, the strongest brands balance commercial expansion with the preservation of exclusivity. PRIVATE CLUB SALES Exclusive Access. Exceptional Opportunities. #Luxury #PrivateSales #LuxuryRetail #BrandStrategy

Jeff Jenkins liked thisJeff Jenkins liked thisI recently crossed my first 100 days at Kids2, and I got to spend the last 2 weeks in Asia with our teams in Hong Kong, Zhongshan, and Jiujiang. I shared our global marketing strategy and why we want our brands to look familiar everywhere but shared in local stories that are relevant in their markets. A parent in Atlanta and a parent in Shanghai should recognize the same promise from us, even when it shows up in different ways with different families. Sitting together, sharing meals, and really listening to the teams’ experiences was more meaningful than any video call ever achieved. I also got to learn about their new marketing programs like live selling on TikTok - even tried a bit myself!! It moves fast and the audience tells you right away what works. I'm so grateful for the chance to meet our international teams and walk our manufacturing facilities in person. Seeing the care that goes into every Baby Einstein, Bright Starts, and Ingenuity product gave me a deeper respect for the story we get to tell and the quality we prioritize for every child. I feel lucky to be on this journey with such talented, curious people, and I'm excited for what we build together next! #Kids2 #GlobalTeams #Marketing

Walmart+ is now available in Mexico!🇲🇽 Walmart+ brings together shopping, savings, entertainment, connectivity and health benefits to help our customers get more value from every peso. This is a great example of what we can accomplish when we connect the best of Walmart around the world with the talent and knowledge of our local teams. For me, that’s what it’s all about: learning from what works, adapting it for our customers around the world, and finding better ways to help them save money and live better. Huge congratulations to all the teams who made this possible. Let’s go, Mexico!

Jeff Jenkins liked thisJeff Jenkins liked thisBack in the clubs this week with another group of People colleagues from across Walmart! We spent time talking about what makes the Sam's Club business different and the important role our associates play in serving members. When I asked how many knew about our Member's Mark Community, only a few hands went up. So out came the phones. I showed everyone how to join and explained how the community gives members a voice in shaping the products we create. And of course, our associates are members too! With the holiday season approaching, we talked about how important it is for our People teams to stay close to the associates we're here to support. That means understanding what they need to be successful and delivering quickly. To everyone who joined these walks over the past couple of weeks: I’ve enjoyed the opportunity to connect, learn, and spend time together!

Jeff Jenkins liked thisJeff Jenkins liked thisAs Walmart continues to battle Amazon for retail supremacy in the US, it appears the brick and mortar giant may have had an ace up their sleeve the whole time; Sam’s Club. Walmart just announced that they will offer a bundled membership of Walmart+ and Sam’s Club Plus to shoppers for $120/year which gets them free delivery from both retailers; a subscription to the Peacock or Paramount+ streaming service; and savings of 10 cents per gallon of gas at over 17,000 stations. Matt’s Hot Take™ - With 4,615 Walmart stores and over 600 Sam’s Clubs, Walmart’s local footprint has always been their advantage against Amazon. More than retail coverage though, the type of shopper insights that they can bring together across the retailers is incredibly rich and should help them better serve their members. Speaking of serving their members, offering streaming benefits and a gas discount is a tangible way the retailer is helping shoppers who are struggling with rising costs and are truly meaningful benefits that should support their core value of “helping people save money and live better.” On the media side of things, it should make their offering much more competitive. One of the biggest limitations every commerce media network faces is they live inside their own silo. By bringing two different classes of trade together, Walmart’s data asset should be more representative of marketplace behavior than any other retailer’s (and especially Amazon) and thus more appealing to a wider and deeper pool of advertiser investment. Read on for more this week where I also look at how Instagram is going after long-form content (again) and what the Instacart and DoorDash merger could mean for consumers and advertisers. Here are some interesting stories from the world of retail for Tuesday, November 25: 👔 Kohl's promoted interim Chief Executive Officer Michael Bender to the role on a permanent basis as the US retailer tries to move past a period of management turmoil and slumping sales. 👨🏻⚖️ Williams-Sonoma has sued Quince, a retailer sometimes known as a dupe company, accusing it of misleading consumers by selling similar-looking but inferior products and selling them for less. 🏬 Belk will unveil a new store concept in December in two locations, including Florida and Texas. The new format will offer a curated assortment in a much smaller footprint. 🦃 High turkey prices and historically low production are creating a critical shortage of the birds for food banks nationwide, leaving many facilities unable to meet demand for holiday meal donations. 🛋️ Home furniture retailer American Signature Inc filed for bankruptcy in Delaware on Saturday, blaming declining sales and increased costs due to inflation and tariffs. 🚚 Ahead of the holidays, Family Dollar is partnering with DoorDash to offer customers on-demand delivery services from about 7,000 of the retailer’s stores. 🚫 Kroger is joining the ranks of other companies in cutting back or ending remote work for its headquarters staff. Come January its main corporate workers will have to report to the office five days a week. 👟 Swiss running brand On has opened its first store in Madrid, Spain, following recent global openings in Zurich, Switzerland; Seoul, South Korea; Mexico City; and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. 🛍️ Unprecedented numbers of Americans are expected to hit stores this Black Friday, but they are likely to curtail their spending as they find fewer bargains from tariff-hit retailers. 🏠 The share of homebuyers using adjustable rate mortgage loans has more than tripled over the past five years, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association. 🇺🇸 A bipartisan group of 34 House lawmakers, led by Reps Buchanan (R-FL) and Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), has expressed concern to Shein chief executive Yangtian Xu over the sale of childlike dolls. 🇮🇹 Amiri has planted its roots in Europe with a new Milan flagship shop. The California-based luxury brand’s store is its first standalone European retail destination. ✂️ Susan Collins, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, has said that she does not see a strong necessity for an interest-rate cut next month. 🤖 Amazon is making a major commitment to provide artificial intelligence and supercomputing services to US federal agencies. #retail #retailnews #economy #DailyRetailNews

Simple fact: Retail Media that isn't fully integrated into your total retailer strategy will never be as successful as it could be. Set clear goals, continually monitor & optimize, and tie it to the bigger picture. Anyone can get you a good ROAS. Using Retail Media to drive your total business takes more partnership and integration. Hit me up with questions on this - I love to get nerdy on this stuff! 🤓

We just released the latest episode of the Shopper Matters podcast, and Nick Nickitas (GM, Local Independent Grocery at Instacart) dropped some serious truth bombs about the future of retail. You can't afford to miss the conversation. Here are the 3 big shifts changing the game right now: 1️⃣ The "Moneyball" Effect: Retail Media Networks are doing for grocery what Sabermetrics did for baseball. It’s transforming digital shelves into profit centers by attracting national brand dollars that were previously reserved for the "big guys". 2️⃣ The AI "Quartermaster": We are moving toward Agentic Commerce, where AI acts as a family’s digital assistant, predicting your Friday pizza night and ordering the ingredients before you even ask. 3️⃣ The Death of the "Digital Divide": Your shoppers aren't "online" or "offline." They are omni-channel humans. They want a seamless experience that mirrors your fresh store-level merchandising on their mobile screen. The Bottom Line: Technology is the great equalizer. Even a single-store operator can now meet the guest expectations set by national giants. 🎧 Listen to the full episode...Link below to the Podcast 🎧 #ShopperMatters #RetailTech #Instacart #GroceryRetail #RetailMedia #AI #Grocery #Retailing #IndependentGrocers #Ecommerce What’s your take? Target’s turnaround strategy is starting to show encouraging signs. According to Placer.ai, shopper traffic is rising, suggesting that investments in stores, staffing, and merchandising are beginning to resonate. Highlights: Weekly visits between Feb. 2 and March 22 rose 6.6% to 10.3% year over year. Circle Days (March 25–27) saw 2.9% higher traffic than 2024 and 5.9% higher than 2025, despite those earlier events including weekends. Traffic exceeded year-to-date averages, showing shoppers are returning even outside promotions. Expanded wellness assortment by 30% in January. Testing contextual ads in ChatGPT announced in February. Stopped selling cereals with artificial colors last week. New CEO Michael Fiddelke unveiled a multi-year strategy in March, with grocery as a key growth driver. Plans include refreshing stores, investing in payroll and training, and strengthening assortments. If Target sustains this momentum beyond promotional periods, 2026 could mark a stabilization and modest growth phase. The bullseye seems to be finding its aim again. #RetailTrends #Target #CustomerExperience

Big consumer brands are increasingly integrating retail media into their core strategies and banking on its ability to unify brand and commerce, even while measurement questions around true incremental impact remain unresolved. But here’s the tension: ✅ Investment is accelerating ✅ Retail networks are scaling ❓ Incrementality remains unclear ❓ Creative quality remains inconsistent In my experience, retail media creative is often the weakest link. It's templated, transactional, and disconnected from broader brand and content strategy. If retail media is becoming a core growth engine, then parallel evolution is required: - Content must become retailer-specific and algorithm-aware - SKU-level assets must be instrumented and continuously optimized - Measurement must move beyond ROAS to creative-level intelligence Otherwise, retail media becomes expensive paid shelf space. Curious how others are thinking about the creative + data side of retail media’s rise.

Today we break down how a resilient but increasingly selective consumer is forcing brands to rethink growth, pricing, and product strategy. Across the industry, companies are shifting from aggressive expansion to sharper execution, with a clear divide emerging between operators built on efficiency and those still trying to catch up. At the same time, the playbook is evolving fast. Social commerce continues to gain traction, brand storytelling is becoming a core growth lever, and retailers are experimenting with new formats, partnerships, and category extensions to stay relevant. Meanwhile, ongoing store closures, restructurings, and strategic pivots highlight just how unforgiving the current environment has become.

Digital Transformation + Loyalty Innovation Over the last several weeks, at various conferences, one thing has become unmistakably clear: the grocery industry is entering a new era where digital intelligence, mission‑based loyalty, and AI‑driven retail media will define the next decade of growth. Shoppers are becoming more intentional, more digitally empowered, and more selective about where they spend their dollars. They expect retailers to understand their missions — stock‑up, fresh, wellness, fill‑in, convenience — and deliver experiences that feel personal, relevant, and effortless. Loyalty is no longer about points or discounts. It’s about predictive engagement, mission alignment, and value precision. AI is accelerating this shift. It’s reshaping how baskets are built, how shoppers plan meals, how they compare value, and how they navigate stores and digital channels. The retailers who embrace AI as a strategic operating system — not a bolt‑on tool — will create deeper loyalty, stronger margins, and more resilient customer relationships. Retail media is evolving just as quickly. It’s becoming a true profit engine, not just an ad channel but caution, the big box retailers are getting most of the dollars. When powered by clean product data, identity resolution, and closed‑loop measurement, retail media can fund price investments, strengthen vendor collaboration, and drive category growth in ways traditional marketing never could. And underneath all of this is data — structured, accurate, enriched product and customer data. Without it, AI can’t personalize, retail media can’t optimize, and loyalty can’t differentiate. With it, retailers can build unified ecosystems where digital, loyalty, retail media, and store operations work together instead of in silos. The future of grocery will belong to retailers who unify: AI + Loyalty + Retail Media + Product Data + Mission‑Based Engagement. Not as separate initiatives — but as one connected strategy. Birdzi is an AI technology that does the transformation I’m focused on every day: helping regional grocers compete with national giants by modernizing loyalty, elevating digital experiences, strengthening retail media, and building intelligence systems that truly understand the customer. The industry is changing fast. But the opportunity has never been greater. #Loyalty, #Retailmedia #Birdzi, #AI
