Gaudencio A. reposted thisGaudencio A. reposted thisIt's been over 6 months of looking for work, so time to escalate - I added the #OpenToWork banner. If anybody in my network has leads on game design roles (Game Director, Lead Game Designer, Expert Designer, Senior Designer) then I'd love to hear about them. I'm unable to relocate so they need to be in southern Sweden, Copenhagen, or fully remote. Feel free to DM me. I'm also open to opportunities in education and consulting, including contract work. I have a few gigs lined up for teaching game design and game development this fall and would be glad to share my "menu" of courses, they cover a wide range of topics. I also have several highly skilled professionals contributing class topics in art, narrative, audio, production, and more. References available on request. Thanks for your help, let's continue looking out for each other during these challenging times.

Gaudencio A. shared thisJim is hands down one of the absolute best recruiters Ive ever worked with! Any company would be incredibly lucky to have his help!Gaudencio A. shared thisHello Awesome Job Hunters, Real talk. I had lunch with my old colleagues the other day and we talked about how much everything has changed over the last 10+ years since we started. Instead of the world growing together, it seems we are working harder and faster towards the great unknown. I know great things come from the unknown. I’ve helped build award-winning teams. I’ve taught career development. I’ve guided students, mentored devs, and hired for some of the most iconic games in the industry. And right now? I’m looking for my next role. And yeah, it’s been tough. Rejections. Silence. Hustling, BOTs every day. I’ve cleaned, rebuilt, re-sent my resume more times than I can count. And still, no interviews, no offer. But here’s what hasn’t changed: -I still believe in the magic of building great teams. -I still love games, tech, space and the people behind them. -And I still know how to find talent others miss, because I look deeper. If you know a team looking for a Senior Recruiter, a Talent Partner, a Builder of Teams. I would love to talk. I bring experience, strategy, and maybe even a few dog jokes. Drop a comment. Share this. Or just say hey. Let’s get loud enough to be seen again. Keep moving forward and always be the best part of yourself! Cheers, Jim #Recruiter #GamingIndustry #OpenToWork #TalentAcquisition #JimRivers #LetsBuild

Very glad I attended several, though I did miss out on most of the UX/UI ones (please spread ‘em out between the two days!). The consumer halls were…WOW! Felt like the old E3, but 10x as big. Special thanks to Mike Sanders🏝️Belgium for the speedrun history tour of Cologne. Also great catching up with David Carrasco and seeing Jeff Seamster on the other side of the pond!

Gaudencio A. liked thisGaudencio A. liked thisHello Awesome Job Hunters, I am sorry you all are going through this!! Lately, I’ve been watching wave after wave of layoffs hit the games industry Amazon, Netflix, and so many more and my heart just aches. I have been there several times! So many incredibly talented developers are being shown the door. -Not because they’re not good enough. -Not because they failed. But because the system is broken. Game developers put their hearts into what they build. They give passion, art, late nights, and belief in something magical. And yet, when numbers dip or forecasts shift, it’s the creatives who pay the price while the decision-makers stay untouched. It’s tragic. It’s unfair. SUPER NOT OK!!! And honestly… it’s exhausting to watch. I spent most of my career loving this industry deeply. I believed in it. Still do. Games are art. They’re connection. They’re community. But the business side too often treats people like disposable parts instead of the very engine that makes the magic happen. So here’s what I want to say to anyone affected by this mess: You didn’t do anything wrong. You’re not “less than.” You’re not broken. You’re talented. You’re passionate. You showed up for the work and you made things people loved. That matters. You matter. If you’re grieving, confused, angry, numb all of that is valid. Take your time. Protect your spark. And please remember: Games didn’t quit because of you, the system quit on its people. And every industry that’s been forced to change starts with painful moments like this… But then comes rebuilding. Then comes evolution. Then comes something better. The people who come through this with empathy, experience, and resilience will be the ones who help shape what’s next. If you need support, reach out. If you’re hiring, look to this incredible pool of talent. If you’re hurting, you’re not alone. We’re still here. We’re still moving forward. Together. Take a breath, take a walk, cook some food with friends. This will pass but before it does. Always keep your eyes open and heart strong! Stay AWESOME and keep moving FORWARD!! Jim

He works with passion of games, always try to improve his work, and makes it. Grey Horizon — WIP *This project is still a work in progress, with material and asset refinement, final lighting, and post-processing still ahead. * I started this project about a year ago, during a period where everything felt uncertain. Watching ongoing conflicts around the world, seeing the games industry go through repeated layoffs and studio closures, and wondering what the future of creative work looks like made it difficult to feel optimistic. Rather than making a scene that was only about destruction, I wanted to explore the idea that people continue to build lives even in uncertain places. Inspired by the layered urban fabric of Beirut, the environment contrasts remnants of conflict with small acts of everyday life: a survivor shelter beneath a collapsed bridge, an abandoned tank overlooking it, laundry drying, people adapting, and a city that still carries its identity on the horizon. The timelapse shows the project evolving from the initial blockout to its current state—through composition changes, asset creation, lighting iterations, and environmental storytelling. #UnrealEngine5 #EnvironmentArt #GameDev #3DArt #WorldBuilding #WIP #GreyHorizon

To all the pro #ai people on LinkedIn. I have a question for you. In the future, what criteria should companies be looking for when hiring senior candidates, when the junior roles that eventually build people into seniors is gone? Hint: There is no answer. Talent and experience go hand in hand.

Technical Artists need to be creative. I want to be clear because creativity is widely misunderstood. Creativity is tightly and closely related to problem solving. Great artists and Technical Artists are given a limited environment and are still able to produce amazing results. Great artists understand this and deliver memorable pieces regardless of the limitations of the environment. Therefore a Technical Artist also needs to be creative when working under constraints.

Having a great portfolio isn’t enough for AAA games—you need to master real-world production pipelines. To bridge this gap in Latin America, 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼 and 𝗜𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘀 created the first-ever Hard Surface Specialization for AAA Video Games. Watch our 3D Artists - Alexis Fioretti, Luis Salem, and Melisa Aixa Coolen - explain how we're helping Latam talent meet international standards. Back with another Tutorial! This time I wanted to go over a largely requested topic, Modularity! I go over setting scale in Maya, how to prep and plan for modular pieces as well as how to implement Pivot Points properly for usage into Unreal Engine. https://lnkd.in/g2kGU-b3 Also I did somethings a bit different, I added Custom Subtitles for atleast 12 different languages to hopefully help others undertstand to workflows a bit better! #texturing #UE5 #performance #optimization #gameart #gamedev #techart #materials #environmentart #modularity

According to the 2026 Unreal Fest Keynote Address: 5.8 will be the last version of the Unreal 5 Engine. Epic reserves the right to release a 5.9 version. Early Access to Unreal 6 will be released in late 2027ish. Unreal 6 will merge Unreal and UEFN into one Editor. Blueprints will be ‘deprocated’ by the 2028-2029 version of Unreal 6. #unrealfest2026

DigixArt breaks down the incredibly innovative Story-Link system for Tides of Tomorrow, explaining how Unreal 5, state machines, Blueprint, Houdini, and more combine player choices into the narrative. "It consists of several post‑process layers stacked together within a post-process volume," explained Raphael Garcia, Technical Artist at DigixArt. "Working in layers rather than using a single large post‑process pass gives us more flexibility, since we can sometimes activate only certain passes and not others, which makes it easy to create different intensity levels and serve the staging." "Splitting the post‑process into multiple layers also lets us control the Blendable Location of each pass independently, which helps us fine‑tune the inputs and optimize performance." Read the full deep dive interview below 🔽

You probably don’t know about one of the coolest and most powerful features in MetaHuman Creator. With Unreal Engine 5.7’s improvements to the Conform workflow, you can now auto-rig a wide variety of biped characters to MetaHuman rigging standards. But here’s the thing. Once you’ve saved that new MHC asset, you can use it as a Blend Preset Selection in the Blend Tool. That means you can: > Author a few custom MetaHuman meshes. > Auto-rig them using Conform. > Then use the Blend Tool (in Global or Local mode) to generate character variations fast. And if you set Blend Type to Shape, only the mesh shape is blended, preserving skeleton transforms and any animation dependencies.

Bringing concept art into a real-time environment is where a lot of visual decisions get tested. A few days ago, I shared the concept exploration behind the Blue City. This was my attempt to translate that vision into a stylized Unreal Engine 5 environment while preserving its mood and architectural identity. Focus: modular architecture lighting and atmosphere color hierarchy and readability - Full breakdown available in the comments (ArtStation).
