Eduardo Duran shared thisSix years ago this month, I launched Insight Hospitality Solutions. It was October 2020. Hotels were closed, teams were furloughed, and no one knew what travel would look like on the other side. Starting a hospitality consultancy then probably didn’t look like the smartest decision. But I believed that when the world opened back up, the way we care for guests, and for the people who serve them, would matter more than ever. Six years later, that belief has taken us to properties on five continents, over 20 countries and every single client has come to us through a referral. What I’ve learned along the way is simple: talent is everywhere. What’s often missing is someone who believes in it. Give people the tools and the trust, and they will surprise you every time. To our clients, thank you for your trust and for every door you’ve opened. To our team, thank you for carrying this work across every border. Swipe through for a look at the journey so far. 👉

Eduardo Duran shared thisThis is so amazingly heartwarming. Teach them young!Eduardo Duran shared thisI’m asking for a little help this week and it means a lot. Connor’s Kindle version is on pre-sale right now for $0.99, and paperback for $15, and more than anything: We want him to feel people’s support. The paperback releases on April 2, aligned with World Autism Awareness Day + International Children’s Book Day This is a big accomplishment for him, if you’re open to supporting him now: • Grab the Kindle or paperback version • Share it with someone • Help us spread the word This is more than a book, it’s a young voice stepping into something big. Thank you for being part of it. 👇 Link in comments

Eduardo Duran liked thisEduardo Duran liked this“Why do you want this job?” “Why are YOU asking ME? You posted it. You’re looking for someone. Here I am.” 😂 Honestly… how many applications are basically this energy? More applications ≠ better hiring. Many employers chase maximum visibility for their roles. The result? Thousands of applications — but often from people who: • Love the brand but aren’t qualified • Are qualified but have zero real interest • Applied because the post was everywhere, not because it was right for them More noise. Not more hires. The smarter move? Be as deliberate about WHO sees your roles as you are about what those roles say. Right audience. Right message. Right channel. The companies winning at hiring aren’t getting the most applicants — they’re getting the right ones. Catch us at Institute of Student Employers next Monday, where we’ll be sharing how our clients are doing exactly this 👇

Eduardo Duran liked thisEduardo Duran liked thisThe CIA doesn’t just listen to what people say. It studies how people behave. And one of the most interesting principles of human behavior is this: People reveal more when they feel understood than when they feel interrogated. Think about the last time someone asked you a direct question. You probably considered what to say, how much to reveal, and what the other person wanted to hear. Now imagine a different approach. Instead of asking question after question, someone creates a comfortable conversation, listens carefully, and encourages you to share your own experiences. Suddenly, the interaction feels less like an interview and more like a natural exchange. This is where behavioral psychology becomes fascinating. Whether you’re negotiating a business deal, interviewing a candidate, building a relationship, or trying to understand a customer, the way you communicate can matter as much as the questions you ask. Here are four principles worth remembering: → Listen for what matters to the other person. Their priorities often reveal more than their prepared answers. → Pay attention to context. A statement means more when you understand the situation surrounding it. → Ask open-ended questions. Give people room to explain their thinking rather than simply confirm your assumptions. → Observe patterns, not isolated signals. One gesture or facial expression rarely tells you the whole story. But there’s an important distinction: body language is not a mind-reading tool. A single gesture cannot reliably reveal whether someone is lying, nervous, or hiding something. The real skill is combining attentive listening, context, thoughtful questions, and evidence. These principles aren’t just useful in intelligence work. They’re useful anywhere understanding people matters. The best communicators don’t simply ask better questions. They create conversations in which better answers can emerge. #Psychology #Communication #HumanBehavior #Leadership #Negotiation #EmotionalIntelligence #PersonalDevelopment

Some people try again with the same approach. The ones who eventually win come back different. More prepared. More skilled. More disciplined. More undeniable. José Hernández did not just keep applying to NASA. He studied the gap. Then he closed it. Pilot’s license. Russian. Scuba. Marathon. Advanced engineering. That is what real resilience looks like. Not blind repetition. Intentional improvement. The mighty oak does not fall from one swing. It falls because every swing before it mattered. Every rejection. Every lesson. Every adjustment. Every decision to keep going when quitting would have made sense. Leadership requires that same mindset. You do not control every no. But you do control who you become before the next opportunity opens. Keep swinging. The yes may be one more strike away. #Leadership #Resilience #Growth

Eduardo Duran liked thisEduardo Duran liked thisWhy buy a store when you can validate a food truck first?” When Junghong Park and his co-founders brought CupBop to Shark Tank, they didn't present an abstract restaurant concept. They presented a highly scalable, operational powerhouse: Korean BBQ served fast and fresh in a cup. They asked for $1M for 3% equity—a massive $33.3M valuation. While traditional food entrepreneurs struggle with high overhead, CupBop executed a masterclass operational strategy: Validated the concept with low-cost food trucks. Scaled rapidly across 40+ brick-and-mortar storefronts. Expanded into major sports arenas (including the Utah Jazz arena). The result? The Sharks didn't debate the taste they fought over the unit economics. Ultimately, Mark Cuban closed a deal for $1M for 5% equity, valuing the brand at $20M. Here are 3 critical lessons for every multi-unit, consumer, and retail operator: 1️⃣ De-risk before scaling real estate: A mobile model (like a food truck or pop-up) gives you real foot-traffic data and menu optimization with minimal CAPEX. Don't sign a long-term lease on hope. 2️⃣ Simplicity enables rapid execution: High-throughput kitchen operations require stripped-down, repeatable processes. CupBop’s "bowl in a cup" format eliminates service bottlenecks and accelerates order velocity. 3️⃣ Culture + Category Creation = Pricing Power: CupBop didn't just sell fast food; they packaged authentic Korean culture into an accessible format for mainstream markets. When your unit economics are bulletproof and your operational playbook is repeatable, investors don't dictate your terms—you choose your partner. Is it better to scale fast with lower margins or grow slow with maximum ownership in retail and food services? #Entrepreneurship #SharkTank #RestaurantIndustry #RetailStrategy #ScalingBusiness #UnitEconomics #Operations #VentureCapital #BusinessStrategy #Leadership

Eduardo Duran reacted on thisEduardo Duran reacted on thisSeven years ago, during my Stanford-based coaching certification, I wrote a children’s story about a white tiger searching for courage. He was really the little girl I once was, the one who had grown tired of allowing others, including corporate and spiritual leaders, to dim her light. Then I put the manuscript in a drawer, convinced I had no business writing for children because I wasn’t a mother. This year, my journey with Kabbalah and the Tree of Life, along with a cat who came into my life already named Tiger, helped me recognize what I had been doing all along: writing for my own inner child. Today, I’m introducing The Right Path Tiger, beginning with a coloring book featuring 22 adventures that nurture courage, kindness, curiosity, and confidence. The original children's story will follow in 2027. And perhaps the greatest leadership lesson in this seven-year journey is that sometimes the biggest obstacle between us and our dreams isn't a lack of ability. It's the permission we refuse to give ourselves. The full story is on Substack. May you all find the Tiger in you. 🐯 #Leadership #Courage #InnerChild #TheRightPathTiger #PuertoRico

Curiosity over intelligence While reading Atomic Habits, one idea really stayed with me. Staying motivated and curious matters more than being intelligent. Because curiosity leads to action. Intelligence alone doesn’t. I’ve seen this again and again at work. Curious people ask better questions. They want to understand how things actually function. They look for simpler ways, clearer processes, better coordination. Not to stand out. But because they genuinely want things to work. Curiosity creates movement. And movement is what changes things. #HospitalityIndustry #HospitalityLeadership #GuestExperience #PeopleOperations #WorkplaceCulture

Building a team isn’t about finding people with perfect histories. It’s about bringing together people who have experienced different victories, different disappointments, different leaders, and different chapters—and helping them believe in what’s possible together. Some arrive carrying baggage from past losses. Some are rebuilding confidence. Some are the fresh energy that challenges old ways. Some simply need someone to remind them that their best work is still ahead. The magic happens when those differences stop dividing us and start strengthening us. Recovery isn’t an individual journey. It’s a team sport. It’s choosing to encourage instead of criticize. To teach instead of judge. To listen before assuming. To celebrate small wins until they become extraordinary ones. The little “Emotional Support Dumpster Fires” we shared this week made us laugh, but they also carried an unexpected reminder: Sometimes leadership isn’t eliminating every fire. Sometimes it’s making sure no one has to face them alone. One conversation. One laugh. One act of support. One shared victory at a time. Because when people genuinely have each other’s backs, even the toughest seasons become the foundation for the strongest teams. And eventually, what once felt overwhelming becomes exactly what we tell each other every day: It’s fine. We’re fine. Everything is going to be just fine. #Leadership #TeamBuilding #Recovery #Culture #HospitalityLeadership #LeadWithHeart #StrongerTogether #HyattPlaceSanJuan #HyattHouseSanJuan #SchulteHospitalityGroup

Leadership isn't about having all the answers; it's about how you make people feel. The strongest leaders I've worked with (and the ones I've learned the most from) make people feel heard, trusted, and valued. They provide context, ask for input, give meaningful feedback, and recognize that relationships drive results. None of these behaviors requires a bigger budget or a new title. Leadership isn't about being perfect. It's about being intentional.
