Ankur Jain reposted thisAnkur Jain reposted thisAnthropic just dropped its S-1. I expected extraordinary growth numbers. But the improvement in economics is even better than I had imagined. The road ahead will be fascinating to watch. A few numbers that really jumped out: → Gross margin: 85% in H1 2026, up from just 12% a year ago. This excludes most model training costs and cloud marketplace distribution fees, but still an absolutely remarkable trajectory. → Revenue per dollar of compute: $2.08 in Q2, up from just $0.40 in Q1 2025. A 5.2x improvement in five quarters → Operating cash flow was positive $3.9B in H1. Even free cash flow after deducting stock-based compensation was positive, at ~$1.3B. All this while growing revenue ~14x YoY to $16.3B in the first half. And ANT still has an astounding $131.7B in cash and investments on the balance sheet ($141.1B total raised to date). But here's the other side of the equation. Anthropic has committed at least $430 billion in future minimum compute purchases and equipment leases, much of it locked in for years, against a business where 80% of revenue remains consumption-based. That's an extraordinary long-term bet in a market where technology, pricing, and competitive dynamics are changing by the quarter. H1 was an exceptional period for Anthropic, amidst the 'tokenmaxxing' and Claude Code domination era that followed the massive step up in model capabilities last November. Q3 results and the next few quarters will be fascinating to watch, as enterprises push harder on inference costs, open-weight alternatives improve, token prices fall, and regulatory and sovereign headwinds potentially increase. There will certainly be new waves of demand from newer products and markets, and amplification from the Jevons effect. How all these forces net out remains to be seen. One thing is clear. Anthropic just set a very high bar for every other frontier AI company heading to public markets. And for itself.

I am deeply grateful to the team for getting us there. The list mixes products for governing customers’ AI use with products that use AI to cut manual work in legal, security investigations and documentation, so it covers both directions. CRN describes Kipling Secure as finding the AI apps and agents running in customer environments, including unsanctioned ones, letting MSPs set governance policies, and blocking violations in real time. They also point out that it’s a multitenant platform, which means an MSP can offer it as a managed service to multiple customers. I think that last piece matters most for MSPs. Seeing what AI your customers are using only pays off if there’s a service you can run, report on and bill for on top of it. AI is driving a generational buildout of data centers, with billions of dollars in buildings, substations, generators and cooling spread across several square kilometers. ⚡🏢 📊 Most catastrophe models work well at a portfolio level, but a data center is a single asset that can span a large area. That changes how often it gets hit, and how badly. 🔬 At Vayuh, we simulated tornado risk at 16 US hyperscale campuses over 4 million years.
