I’ll be transitioning into the role of Executive Chairman, Head of M&A and Corporate Development, with a more focused role helping continue the growth of the IFPG platform through M&A and corporate development. As part of this transition, Matt Otskey been promoted to CEO of IFPG, a role he has absolutely earned after four years with our organization. Rob Finn liked thisRob Finn liked thisBefore 43 was a fund, it was a lease I found on Craigslist and signed personally, without knowing exactly what it would become. After leaving Accomplice, I started writing first checks on my own, but felt stuck and lost. So I took a lease on a really gross workspace on Dore Street. To make rent work, I put my condo on Airbnb. I spent most of my time turning Dore into a third place for first-check investors to meet, share notes, and learn together. During the buildout, I slept on an air mattress in the Writing Room, using my coat as a comforter. Then the pandemic arrived. Offices closed. Dore went quiet. In April 2020, my dad died. After getting my family situated in Kansas City, I drove back to San Francisco in his 2008 Prius, packed with tchotchkes to make the space come to life. Maxine Minter was the first person I saw when I got back. She was alone in the city, too, and asked if she could co-work at Dore to be around another human. Of course I said yes. Those hangs mattered. Maxine introduced me to Anabel Paksoy, who had built a community of operator angels. We began co-investing, then decided to start a fund. So that dirty warehouse space became 43: a fund built to write founders their first meaningful check, give them a space to work and help them find product/market fit. Two founders from our portfolio, Luke Kulik and Kieran Strobel, asked to work from our couches. Then they asked if their team could, too. Eventually, they nudged us to expand. So we did. 43 Dore Street organically evolved into a place for pre-product founders in San Francisco: for deep work, coffee, team meetings, and the occasional (World Cup) watch party. Space isn’t the point, though. When you are trying to find product/market fit, information is rarely the constraint. The harder bits are knowing which questions to ask, who to trust, and whether your instincts are getting sharper. That is where the person at the next desk, a few steps ahead of you, matters. It is why we still believe in working in person. And why I think San Francisco remains the best place to build from scratch. Never build alone. If you’re a pre-product founder in San Francisco and want to work from Dore, come join us at 43 Dore Street. Link in comments.

Rob Finn liked thisRob Finn liked thisCrumbl just launched "Dirty Sodas." Finally, some honest marketing. One of these drinks contains 186 grams of sugar. For reference, that's equivalent to: - Almost 5 cans of Coke - 2 pints of Ben & Jerry's - 29 Krispy Kreme donuts - 40 Oreos ...except you're drinking it through a straw. The American Heart Association recommends no more than 25 grams of added sugar per day for women and 36 grams for men. This one drink delivers roughly 5 to 7 days' worth of added sugar in a single sitting. And your body knows it. When you consume that much sugar at once, your blood sugar spikes violently, triggering a massive insulin response. Your liver gets flooded with fructose it can't process, converting it directly to fat. Your dopamine system lights up like a slot machine, making you crave more. This is a metabolic wrecking ball that sets the stage for insulin resistance, fatty liver disease, type 2 diabetes, and chronic inflammation. "Dirty Soda" might be the most accurate product name I've seen all year. Please do not drink this.

Rob Finn liked thisRob Finn liked this73,500 people said they wanted to own a franchise. 464 actually bought one. That's a big difference, and it should get your attention. On the latest podcast episode of The Sidekick Life, we shared something the franchise industry has never seen before... The Best Damn Franchise Report. Not hype. Not paid rankings. Not “top 10” lists built on ad dollars. This is real data from 73,000 prospective franchise buyers and 3,500 in-depth Franchise Fit Surveys. Here is what we found: ➜ 72% are W2 employees ➜ Average household income is $217,000 ➜ 75% plan to finance ➜ 78% expect ROI in 3 to 4 years ➜ 85% end up buying a different brand than the one they first inquired about ➜ 7 out of 10 who attend Confirmation Day move forward And here is the part most people miss: Interest is massive. Follow-through is rare. Not because people are lazy. Because fear and financing stop them. There is a big difference between clicking an ad and telling a stranger your fears about leaving your job and betting on yourself. We also uncovered something that should challenge assumptions: ➜ 25% think they want multiple units. ➜ 75% actually buy multiple units. ➜ Education changes how people think. ➜ Process builds confidence. Franchising is not risk-free. Nothing worth building is. But the buyers who win are not guessing. They are data-driven, lifestyle-focused, and surrounded by the right advisors. Rob Finn liked thisRob Finn liked thisYesterday I hosted a half-day closed-door session at the Harvard Club of New York City with operating partners from KKR, Advent, Berkshire, and a dozen other PE firms. The topic: AI in PE portfolio companies. The format: two fireside conversations and a long afternoon of candid back-and-forth. A few headline themes from the day: 1. The AI bar for hiring a CEO has moved dramatically in the last 12 months. "Not hostile to AI" used to be enough. Today, AI literacy is existential. The room agreed that a meaningful share of new CEO candidates from the existing talent pool won't make it through this cycle. 2. Nobody in the room had underwritten AI value into a deal's base case yet, including the most sophisticated firms in PE. The IC bar is "show me actualized portfolio results." Until those results exist, AI lives in the upside case only. 3. The work has gone from buying AI tools to building AI-native workflows. Last year was deploying third-party tools across finance, customer service, dev. This year is rebuilding the core workflow of the company itself, and there's no off-the-shelf solution for that. 4. The most contrarian take of the day: data hygiene is often the wrong starting point. The funds that wait to "clean their data" before deploying AI are quietly losing the race. Pick the use case. Start. Build data infrastructure in parallel. 5. The future state nobody's fully thought through: bot workforce management. When portcos have two human employees and thousands of bots, who manages them? When do you "fire" a bot? Do bots get benefits? That new operator role is coming, and the funds that see it first will compound an unfair advantage. Each of these deserves its own post. I'll be unpacking them over the next two weeks. Every operator in that room is figuring this out in real time. You can't run 2025 playbooks on 2026 problems anymore.

A fantastic discussion with Glenn Oken, Dan Herr and Matt Rooney on the evolution of a dedicated BD team in private equity. The conversation explores how deal sourcing has transformed over his 30+ year career, examining what truly drives credibility in the market, the importance of empowering genuine decision-makers, and his journey to co-founding one of the first operationally focused private equity funds in the lower middle market. #DealSourceryPodcast

Is QXO’s $2.25B Kodiak deal actually accretive? Brad Jacobs says the acquisition is “highly accretive to 2026 earnings.” The stock jumped ~18% following the announcement. Here’s what we know — and what we don’t. Confirmed: • ~$2.25B purchase price (cash + 13.2M shares) • ~$2.4B in revenue • ~1x revenue multiple • Significant vendor overlap with Beacon • Strong exposure to high-growth Sun Belt markets Not disclosed: • Kodiak standalone EBITDA • Pro forma EPS impact • Specific synergy targets • Integration costs or timeline Without EBITDA and financing details, no outsider can definitively calculate accretion. So instead of pretending we can, here’s the real lens. The Strategic Logic This isn’t financial engineering. It’s platform construction. Vendor overlap = procurement leverage. Geographic density = operating efficiency. Cross-sell across roofing, lumber, windows, trusses = customer consolidation power. Countercyclical timing = buy when others hesitate. That’s industrial strategy. The Execution Risk • Beacon integration is still fresh. • Housing cycle visibility remains limited. • Synergy capture speed will determine whether “highly accretive” becomes reality. Accretion is earned in execution — not announced in press releases. The Second Lens: The Jacobs Factor There’s another angle here. Brad Jacobs is a generational roll-up architect. He built: XPO Logistics from ~$150M into an ~$18B revenue platform through acquisitions Spun out GXO and RXO into multi-billion-dollar standalone businesses Created tens of billions in enterprise value across cycles He’s extremely methodical. Extremely disciplined. Relentless about culture and operator density. He understands that scaling platforms isn’t just about spreadsheets — it’s about people, incentives, integration tempo, and capital markets psychology. In that sense, he’s similar to other generational builders: you don’t reflexively bet against operators who repeatedly compound at scale. If you’ve read How to Make a Few Billion Dollars, you understand where conviction beyond raw numbers comes from. His framework around capital allocation, timing, and integration discipline isn’t theoretical — it’s battle-tested. My Take Could execution stumble? Always. Could housing weaken further? Absolutely. But when a disciplined capital allocator buys scale at ~1x revenue during cyclical softness — with vendor leverage embedded — I pay attention. The numbers matter. Track record matters more. I’m confident in Brad and the team — and I expect more strategic activity this year. The real question isn’t “Is this instantly accretive?” It’s: Do you trust the operator running the playbook? #qxo #howtomakeafewbillon #bradjacobs

The "One Number" That Derails Fundraisers Most founders believe their fundraising fails because of market size, competition, or valuation. In reality, the single most common cause of early deal-kill in 2026 is Net Dollar Retention (NDR) / Cohort Churn misalignment. When institutional VCs run due diligence, they look straight past top-line ARR growth to test the underlying retention health: • High acquisition with high churn is just expensive customer acquisition. • Expansion revenue from existing logos (NDR > 110%+) proves true product-market fit and pricing power. Before going to market, founders must ensure their core operational data room tells a clear, undeniable story about customer retention and payback periods. At G+QUANT we partner with early-stage founders to structure institutional-grade investment decks, data rooms, and capital strategies that withstand rigorous VC due diligence. Founders: Have you stress-tested your retention cohort metrics prior to initiating your next round? What does the "new era" of private equity look like? This week at PEI NEXUS, Bain & Company's Chairman of Global Private Equity Practice Hugh MacArthur recapped the firm's latest Global Private Equity Report. Hugh noted that firms will need to focus on what they do well in a “new era” for private equity. These sentiments echoed much of what Private Wealth Forum speakers, including Arax Investment Partners Founder and CEO Haig Ariyan, Laird Norton Wetherby CIO Ron Albahary, CFA, Ardian Managing Director, US Private Wealth Solutions Ava Mallin, and Citi Wealth Head of Private Equity and Real Estate Jeffrey Locke, shared on stage at PEI. This week's AGM Alts Weekly dives into what a "new era" in private equity might look like, connecting dots and data points from Bain & Company and McKinsey & Company's 2026 reports on the state of the private equity industry. Some key themes defined the takeaways from both reports: ➡️ Returns will not be a dime a dozen: Bain's punchline? "12 is the new 5." ➡️ Megadeals, big questions: 2025 witnessed an increase in global buyout deal value. However, just 13 deals of $10B or more contributed 69% of the growth in 2025, accounting for $274B of the global gain. ➡️ A K-shaped industry: Private equity appears to turning into a K-shaped industry, with “a subset of elite funds [being] on the upswing while everyone else muddles through.” ➡️ No fun in fundraising: McKinsey noted that core, closed-end fundraising has “become more competitive, selective, and time consuming.” ➡️ Continuation nation: There’s been a marked rise in continuation vehicle activity, but only represents less than 10% of exit value. ➡️ Mid-sized deals not so mid: Megadeal activity grabbed the headlines. But deal sizes $1-5B deals grew 29%. Growth in the $1-5B deal size segment could be encouraging for specialist buyout funds. There are some key questions for allocators to grapple with as they think about what private equity might look like in the future. 1️⃣ Do allocators believe public markets will continue to outperform private markets? 2️⃣ Will fundraising bounce back? 3️⃣ Can firms kick value creation into motion? 4️⃣ Are both GPs and LPs ready to handle how investors might look to exit evergreen vehicles? 5️⃣ For LPs, are they finding managers that have an edge? Read on for more👇 This week's Alt Goes Mainstream's AGM Alts Weekly, brought to you by DealsPlus, covers: 🗂️ AGM Index, an index that tracks the leading publicly traded alternative asset managers. 💻 Who is hiring: Senior-level positions from companies Blackstone, KKR, Apollo Global Management, Inc., Ares Management, EQT Group, Blue Owl Capital, Franklin Templeton, Fortress Investment Group, iCapital, Goldman Sachs, Ultimus Fund Solutions, Krilogy, MSCI Inc. Search Engines and LLMs have value because they are the origin point of the query. If you don’t have to manually enter the query though typing or voice the starting line for who gets to keep the finders fee moves. First to consciencess thought and eventually to subconscious preawareness. All queries are a cry for help to reduce “suffering”, an attempt to augment our domain over reality QUICKER. First principles: recognition and context in brains and AIs always precedes query.
