But we’re practicing all day long, often without realizing it. Filling the silence. Solving the problem for someone else. Avoiding the uncomfortable conversation. Assuming we already know what someone means. Every repetition strengthens a pattern, whether we intended to practice it or not. So I’ve been sitting with this question: What are you getting better at simply because you keep doing it? And perhaps just as importantly: Is it something you want to get better at? Angela Cusack shared thisBy the time a problem shows up on a dashboard, it usually has a history. A decision that kept getting deferred. A priority that meant something different to each team. A conversation everyone knew was needed—and no one wanted to start. We measure revenue, growth, retention, and performance. But we often pay less attention to the conditions producing them. When results fall short, the instinct is to push harder: raise the target, add accountability, ask for more urgency. Before doing that, it’s worth asking: What is happening here that makes this result likely? Are priorities clear enough to guide tradeoffs? Do people have the authority to make the decisions they own? Can teams surface a problem early without paying a price for it? Those questions belong in the performance conversation. That’s the focus of this next chapter of Igniting Success: examining the conditions that shape results—and what needs to change for different results to become possible. Not simply, “What am I doing?” or “How am I performing?” but something deeper: ❓ What patterns am I carrying into the room? ❓ How do those patterns shape the experience others have of me? ❓ And what might I discover if I became curious about them? Because whether we realize it or not, our way of being creates conditions. Conditions in which people feel able 👉 To speak or choose to remain silent. 👉 To take a risk—or play it safe. 👉 To feel seen—or overlooked. L’errore è usare sempre lo stesso formato per abitudine. Prima di pubblicare bisognerebbe chiedersi: voglio farmi vedere, farmi ricordare, generare discussione o portare qualcuno a compiere un’azione? Ma da soli non raccontano tutto: salvataggi, commenti pertinenti, click, visite al profilo e DM indicano un interesse più profondo. What separates a coach who can deliver an assessment from one who can actually change someone? Join me on April 14 at 12:00 PM ET for a live webinar — The Master Practitioner: What Assessment-Based Coaching Gets Wrong and What to Do About It. Most leadership coaching engagements follow the same arc. An assessment gets administered. A report gets generated. A debrief gets delivered. A development plan gets written. Quarterly check-ins follow. And then, often, not much changes. Not because the tools are wrong. The science behind good personality assessment is some of the most robust and reproducible in all of psychology. But because the gap between a valid instrument and genuine insight into a person is larger than the field likes to admit and the training pipeline that produces coaches hasn't been designed to close it. There's a difference between a coach who can deliver an assessment and a coach who can formulate. Who can hold what the data says, what the person in the room is showing you, and what the context is doing to both — simultaneously, without collapsing the complexity into a tidy narrative. This session covers the intellectual foundations most practitioners never encounter, what the replication crisis means for applied coaching work, and what a genuine knowledge architecture for this kind of practice looks like.
