Weaving in

a better way

Guided by our four fundamental principles, we're constantly working to close the loop on our production.

We design long-lasting products, use resources smarter and continue to find new ways to keep materials and carpets in circulation. A responsibility that doesn't stop at our own production, as we also look beyond our own and find ways to engage, help and support both our community and our planet.

Every action is measured, transparent and grounded in science, - because progress should be proven, not promised.  We want to pave the way for a shift in both mindset and production – within Ege and throughout the industry – by always weaving in a better way.

Going forward by going in circles

Our four fundamental priciples are the driving force in making carpets in a better way.

Our four fundamental principles

the driving force in making carpets in a better way

The less we use, the more we gain

Every thread, material and process counts. That’s why we’re constantly discovering and inventing new ways to reduce. An average carpet tile weighs over 4 kg. With our standard carpet tiles averaging a weight of just 2.7 kg, we use 30% less raw materials. Today, more than 70% of our production uses regenerated or recycled yarn, and we recycle adhesives from broken car windows and incorporate this into the backing of our carpets. In addition, by electrifying our production, we’ve reduced natural gas consumption by approximately 1.2 million m3 per year - reducing our scope 1 and 2 emissions by 40%. All these efforts contribute to reducing our carpets’ carbon footprint for the benefit of the climate. Using Environmental Product Declarations, we document our progress to ensure full transparency.

Long lasting impressions need long lasting solutions

Designing for sustainability starts with designing for durability. We design and construct our carpets to have the longest lifespan possible - without compromising on aesthetics and quality. By designing carpets as tiles and planks, we make it possible to replace individual pieces, rather than the entire carpet, if damage occurs. Sometimes things aren’t discarded because they’re worn out - but because circumstances change. Through our Ege ReUse programme, we take back carpet tiles, clean them and resell them - giving them a second life in their existing form.

Giving what we put out a way back in

We’re continuously increasing the use of recycled inputs in our production while ensuring that remaining materials are put to good use. We return yarn scraps to our suppliers for use in new yarns, send packaging materials to be recycled, and some of our carpet off-cuts are repurposed as filler material in sports equipment and other applications – to name a few initiatives. Today, 31% of Ege Carpets’ production waste is being reused or recycled. At the same time, we’re also investing in solutions that make our carpets easy to take apart after use, so that each component is recyclable.

Making better choices a mindset

Sustainability is embedded in our mindset and guides the choices we make – both within our production and beyond Ege Carpets. We strive to make choices that reduce our impact on the planet and improve people’s lives. Across all production sites, our electricity consumption is covered by investments in renewable energy, and we continuously work to improve material health without compromising the quality, recyclability, or aesthetics of our carpets. Social responsibility is equally important to us. We give back to our community both economically and socially through initiatives such as the nature restoration project Gjellerup Enge, and through Ege Go2Work, which provides training positions for job centre candidates. Through our ownership structure, a share of our annual profit is allocated to a foundation that supports our local communities.

GJELLERUP ENGE

Bringing nature back to its roots

Just outside of our headquarters, we're taking part in the Gjellerup Enge restoration project. In collaboration with Danish Nature Fund, Herning Municipality and local partners, we've re-established meadows, wetlands and forest across 144 hectares of land, strengthening local biodiversity and climate resilience. Ege Carpets has donated over 28 of the hectares, that are now home to over 500 registered species of plants, animals and insects.

EGE GO2WORK

Turning potential into possibilities

We love finding ways where a process can do good in more than one way. Ege Go2Work is our programme that combines environmental and social impact. In collaboration with local job centres, we help people get back into the job market, by engaging them in our process of preparing leftover yarn and cardboard cones for recycling. In 24/25 the programme made 310 tonnes of material prepared for reuse – a 45% increase from the year before.

EGE REUSE

Return your used carpet tiles

Ege ReUse is a programme to make sure perfectly good, high-quality carpet tiles don't end up in waste, when they still have many good years left in them. We take used carpet tiles back, clean them, and sell them again - giving them a second life. An Ege ReUse carpet tile has a carbon footprint of 0 kg CO2e in its A1-A3 fase, which reduces its impact on your project's Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
