Frequently asked questions

A high-yield savings account is an account where you typically earn an interest rate that’s higher than the average rate found on a traditional savings account.

When comparing high-yield savings accounts, you’ll find the account’s rate of return listed as an annual percentage yield (APY). This is the rate of return you receive over a year, including compound interest, assuming the interest remains on deposit in the account.

Deposits begin earning interest from the moment they are received, but they will not be immediately available for withdrawal.

New account deposits must be through automated clearing house (ACH) transfers and received before 5 p.m. CT, on a business day (Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays). Deposits received after 5 p.m. CT, or on a non-business day are processed on the next business day.

Here are the fees for a high-yield savings account:

  • $5 for each paper statement request (online statements are free)
  • $15 for each official check request (a check that is guaranteed by the bank)
  • $25 outgoing wire transfer fee (a free, automated clearing house (ACH) transfer can be used instead)

With a Bread Savings account, there are no fees for monthly account maintenance.

To be eligible to open a Bread Savings online account, you must be at least 18 years of age, be a United States citizen or resident alien, have a valid U.S. government-issued Social Security number, and a physical U.S. address.

Please keep in mind, only individuals may open a sole or joint ownership account.

To maximize your savings, we encourage you to maintain the $100 minimum balance in your savings account that was required at account opening. However, you won’t be charged a fee if you fall below the account opening minimum.

1 Annual Percentage Yield (APY): All Bread Savings APYs are accurate as of bf-date-today. APYs are subject to change at any time without notice. Offers apply to personal accounts only. Fees may reduce earnings. For high-yield savings accounts, a minimum of $100 is required and must be deposited in a single transaction. For high-yield savings accounts, the rate may change after the account is opened. To open a CD, a minimum of $1,500 is required and must be deposited in a single transaction. A penalty will be imposed for early withdrawals on CDs. At maturity, your CD will automatically renew and earn the base interest rate in effect at that time.

2 The APY assumes interest remains on deposit.

3 Refers to deposits by ACH that are received before 5 p.m. CT on a business day (Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays). Deposits begin earning interest from the moment they are received but may not be immediately available for withdrawal. Deposits received after 5 p.m. CT or on a non-business day are received on the next business day.
