Peter Lovell shared thisTHIS is how to do a post conference summary 😂😂 absolutely wonderful from a truly wonderful man and friend. A man who genuinely personifies the work hard, play hard, don’t take anything too seriously vibe that just makes everyone he meets smile. Take a bow Andrii. We love ya ❤️❤️Peter Lovell shared this🔴 🧀 WARNING 🧀 🔴 This might be the cheesiest after-the-Develop: Brighton post you have seen so far. Discretion is advised. SOUND ON Heelloo my dearest network 😎 Guess who visited Brighton last week? As a tradition (that I made up myself) dictates, here’s my ONE OF IT'S KIND selfie reel! Enjoy the video, folks. Before you scroll all the way down to the actual video, I would like to mention all the amazing people I’ve met and shared time with (there is no order in the list ❤️): Jon Daou 🎼, Pimwadee (Pim) Lai and superstar Chris Randle himself - Are there any words needed? Time with you is always amazing. You can tell from the photos! Travel more, team! The world needs you. Peter Lovell - Officer, it's this handsome devil who acts as a great attractor for the entire gaming community 😁 We need more PETEstops, man. One day is simply not enough. We should step up our game at Gamescom. Let me know your thoughts on the video! I'm raising the bar high (and probably killing myself by doing that 🤣) Viki Freeman - Sometime... sometime we will have a proper chat together! And now you are like a bright star - illuminating the sky and disappearing beyond the horizon of the conference's eventful happenings. Always happy and smiling! (We missed a selfie 😭) Marko Avramovic - I mean, finally, right? Proper pub, proper beer, proper people. I was taught to appreciate Guinness as it should be. It was really nice to see you and Ray Doran! See you again at Gamescom! Anthony Zed James 🔜 XDS - Soulmate found. Period. Lawrence Mass - A kind-hearted soul and a wonderful human being! The party was lit, by the way 😎 Bryce Szandro - He's someone the younger generation should look up to — a successful businessman and a great guy! Just don't ask his age. His answer might make you question your life decisions😂 Lucas Tak - Jokes aside, this guy is amazing! And you SHOULD keep jokes aside because when he cracks one, there's a chance you won't be able to handle it 😁 Thanks, man! Such an open and sincere person is hard to find. Katia Krasenkowa - On-point, frank, professional. It was a great meeting! Thank you. Ivan Avramovic 🕹 🔜 Develop - Always happy to see you and share a drink! The producer doing great business development... what a man 😍 David Oneill - One of the finest (if not THE finest) Irishman there. XOXO Michael Collins - It was great to meet in person! I wish the football had been a bit more fun, though 😂 Corentin Nedelec 🇫🇷🫂 - It was a pleasure talking to you! Jamie O'Flanagan - Stick with this guy, and you'll get into any party 😁 Thanks a lot, man, for being there! Jane Startseva - Thanks for the great chat and sharing your personal perspective on current events. I really appreciate your straightforwardness! Laura D. García - I REALLY loved the game. Can't wait to play it! Nathan Sölbrandt - Hey, Jamie!... Ahem, Nathan! 😂 It will be our little secret. PLEASE!! Character limit :( #magicmedia Magic Media

Peter Lovell shared thisThis week shall mark the 80th Anniversary of D-Day. This week I shall be in Normandy attending the #dday events and memorials and contemplating the high cost of freedom. I hope everyone takes a moment this week to remember those that gave so much for the freedoms we take for granted today. To learn of who they were, why they did it, and what they did it for. Try to take a moment on June 6th to remember and silently reflect. If anyone in my network is similarly doing the pilgrimage, hit me up. This will be my 6th visit and I can help with local recommendations, logistics or meeting up if schedules permit. #dday80 #veterans #neverforget

Peter Lovell shared thisA niche Sunday Shoutout to anyone who remembers seeing this painting or print on your grandparents or aunts or uncles or whoever’s walls back in your childhood? 😂 Smokey living rooms, brown carpets, 4 TV channels, Teletext and the eponymous “Miss Wong” by Vladimir Tretchikoff. My word so much has changed since then I can’t begin the get my head around it all. Still I look back soooo fondly those wonderful childhood years. A simpler world for sure lol. Does this bring back any memories to anyone else out there? #sundayvibes #nostalgia #art #itwasjustbetterthen

Peter Lovell shared thisI don’t often repost, but this one resonated with me. I talk to a lot of recruitment, talent and studio leaders, and countless candidates and it really is worrying to see these stats reflected almost everywhere. On the one hand one can say this is great for companies having such an abundance of talent to select from, but discoverability is a major issue right now, especially if you havnt got your internal hiring team and processes staffed up and running effectively. Behind these stats are your battle weary, now often recently reduced recruitment / talent teams, your gate keepers. The sheer volumes they’re crunching through right now. Yeeks. They’re trying to find the perfect candidates whilst maintaining your company’s reputation with all those that had to be rejected, and keeping your hiring managers and execs as happy as they can…when those roles need filling now now now. And for those managers it’s especially important that they’re getting the right candidates straight out of the gate, as they’re swamped and don’t have the time to deal with volume driven hiring cycles. It’s a perfect storm. Things are getting missed, dropped, rushed and ultimately the scope for wrong decisions being made grows and grows. I’m a fanatical believer in getting this right, shamelessly fanatical; investing in and embedding your talent and people teams is so critical to success. All my experience has only shown this works and is the often unspoken variable between greatness, and mediocrity or failure. Talent. Is. Everything. So to all my recruitment related brethren, hang in there. I feel you, haaaang in there. Remember you are still doing what you love and were born to do and remind yourself you have a uniquely wonderful and important role in this industry that extends crucially both in and out. Keep up the great work, you literally make dreams come true. For the rest of us, let’s all keep working to improve the situation and get this industry fixed. Some radical thinking (and / or rethinking) needed. My heart goes out to the people, the human stories behind the numbers, the countless candidates behind those stats. Let’s keep talking, keep sharing and keep fighting ❤️🥂 Thanks so Simon Hade for sharing these stats. Excellent. #hiring #talent #gamesindustry #lovewhatyoudo #recruitmentPeter Lovell shared thisI just noticed our bittersweet Workable Wrapped Stats: 18k (!) job applications in 2023 for 384 interviews and 45 hires. Whilst I'm proud that our recent success has allowed us to grow, this absolutely brutal funnel and increase of 4-5x on previous years applications is a grim reflection on the state of the industry. My heart goes out to the thousands of people we couldn’t even interview for bandwidth reasons and the many more impacted by layoffs. If you’re hitting a dead end with job applications make sure you push for feedback. Most hiring managers and recruiters are happy to provide detailed reasons or give advice. But they're also usually very busy so sometimes you might need to prod. Also there is a growing community of people on Linkedin who are maintaining job seeker resources. Here are two that popped on my feed today. I'm sure there are more (please share and I'll amplify) Amir Satvat of Tencent maintains a comprehensive tracker here (https://lnkd.in/dYdh2wXg ) and posts regularly with helpful links and updates (like this one today - https://lnkd.in/d4hCKNG9 ). From these links you can find not only job boards but mentoring services, CV reviews etc Jordan Mazer of A16Z posted today links out to a bunch of resources both within and outside their portfolio (https://lnkd.in/d_W4s8is ) Also if you’re around London for PGC later this month the Space Ape team (Michelle Simon Emma Myall Matt Dunlop) will be working the floor so hit them up. Even if we don’t have an advertised role that’s right for you on our website (https://lnkd.in/d7pGVgQA) they are always keen to meet new people and happy to help if they can.

Peter Lovell shared this2 immense days of wondrous festive celebrations is how we saw out our 2023 here at Lockwood Publishing Ltd 🥳🥳 and it was genuinely the most wonderful gathering of my professional life to date. ❤️ I am still recoiling from the emotion and pure love that the last few days have encapsulated. Coming together, from all over the World to our Nottingham base, marking a huge milestone year with the 10th anniversary of our beloved #Avakin, reflecting on the crazy unexpected challenges we’ve faced, risen too and crushed, on the resilience and quality of our Lockwood team and bouncing with optimism for the exciting future we are crafting for ourselves. Magnificent, inspiring end of year updates, constantly together, Xmas treats, bingo and the best party of me lifeee even got up and sung Green Day Time of Your Life. Best night ever guys xx Such a flood of pure happiness and optimism, too rare and special at times these days and to be cherished. I’m just so proud and honoured to be a part of this journey, to be a part of this company and to be a part of all of each others lives. I’d call out every single one of us on here if I could. Merry Christmas team and to everyone! 🎄🎄🥂❤️ have a wonderful rest of 2023 and see you all in the New Year xxxx

Peter Lovell shared thisSomehow its been 25 years since Half Life was released!! One of, if not, the greatest game ever made. Holy Bullsquid!! 😄 to those of you old enough, what does Half Life mean to you? What memories jump out? Its made me reflect on what a significant impact on my life this game had. Its one of the key stepping stones to where I am today and truly was my gateway into the games industry proper, the life I've build in and around it, and therefore the amazing people I've met and known. I started my industry life out as a Half Life modder, way back 25 years ago MY GOD (or a quarter of a century ago WTF?!) I built levels, HUD graphics and environment modelled for 3 mod teams before deciding to have a shot at creating my own total conversion mod - "The Russian Front". From my little bedroom as a teenager on an old 56k modem, I assembled and ran an international team of other modders over ICQ and IRC and we were building something amazing. Possibly the first time the vast World War 2 Eastern Front campaign had been represented in an FPS? It was a great concept, following a Russian peasant soldier (Misha) on his terrifying journey from forced conscription across the great battles of that immense conflict. We had our planethalflife and huge community support and got to a point where we were being invited into big publisher HQs to talk it through. Sadly, ha it fell apart at the 11th hour when Real Life took over from Half Life (Uni, relationships, creative differences, paid work lol etc) and the baton was passed on as the mod moved from HL to the Return to Castle Wolfenstein dev scene, but the seeds were truly sown. I knew what I wanted to do and be. So a huge thank you to the legends at Valve corporation who took the risk and made this awesome game. You changed my life and so many others. You also helped me learn that starting something and failing isn't an end, its a new beginning, and I'm where I am today because of that. SO cheers Gabe Newell et al, and everyone else, be sure to watch the awesome documentary they've just released for some mega nostalgia. Thanks for reading. Xx #sundayvibes #memories #lovewhatyoudo

Over the last week, I’ve shared three perspectives: 👉 HR teams trying to understand attrition 👉 ICs quietly burning out 👉 Managers who don’t realise the impact they’re having Different viewpoints. Same outcome - good people leaving environments that stopped supporting them. 🔻 This isn’t a culture problem. 🔻 It’s rarely a salary problem. 🔻 And it’s almost never a “market” problem. It’s a leadership hiring problem. When leadership roles are filled based on: ❌ tenure over temperament ❌ delivery over influence ❌ confidence over self-awareness You don’t just hire a manager. You create a ripple effect - on morale, retention, and trust. The fix isn’t more process. It’s better judgment at the point of hire. That’s why companies bring DanOps in. Not to flood inboxes with CVs. But to identify leaders and senior ICs who: ✅ elevate teams instead of controlling them ✅ create psychological safety without losing standards ✅ can scale trust as the organisation grows Because replacing a strong IC is expensive. Replacing a team after poor leadership is catastrophic. If leadership hiring matters, then how you hire has to matter too.
