M.G. Siegler shared thisI'm not sure the world is ready for the AI personal assistant takeover. But I'm fairly certain the technology is now ready. The proactive capabilities will be the key to it working (or not) this time. https://lnkd.in/e_CjXJiq

M.G. Siegler reposted thisM.G. Siegler reposted thisToday Dolapo Falola and I are introducing Scuba, the shared context engine for teams and their agents. Never lose a great idea. Capture anything, share what matters, and keep your people and agents aligned as you move faster together. This one is personal. Before my mom passed, she made me promise my next job would make every workday feel like a weekend hobby. Every day building with Scuba feels like Saturday. Everyone is moving faster on their own with AI. But so few teams feel they’re moving smarter together. The models aren't intelligence bound anymore. They're context constrained. Scuba is the shared memory your team has been missing. Put it to work in Slack, Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and any tool that supports MCP. We run our whole company on it, with under two hours of meetings a week. We’re emerging from stealth with $34 million over two rounds. We’re grateful to Accel for leading our pre-seed and co-leading our seed with IVP, alongside BoxGroup, Conviction, Homebrew, and Scribble Ventures. Our angels include the founders of Slack (Stewart Butterfield Cal Henderson), Instagram (Mike Krieger), Stripe (Patrick Collison), LinkedIn (Reid Hoffman Jeff Weiner), Salesforce (Parker Harris), Datadog (Olivier Pomel), Vanta (Christina Cacioppo), Harvey (Winston Weinberg), Dropbox (Drew Houston), Abridge (Shiv (Shivdev) Rao), Duolingo (Severin Hacker), Granola (Christopher Pedregal), Warp (Zach Lloyd), Zynga (Mark Pincus), Groupon (Andrew Mason), Coda (Shishir Mehrotra), Opendoor (Eric Wu), and Flatiron Health (Zach Weinberg). Frontier models aren't intelligence bound anymore. They're context constrained. Bring your own brain and apply for early access: https://scuba.app.

M.G. Siegler liked thisM.G. Siegler liked thisThank you, Dennis Crowley. You knocked over the first domino in a series of events that led to me getting back into venture after my own failed startup, and you've always reminded people that tech's goal should be to bring us together in the real world. For those of you younger folks in tech who've seen the news about Foursquare's sale and are scratching your head as to why people are so nostalgic about this company, you have to understand what it meant to New York City tech at the time. In late 2008, the financial crisis had put venture funding in New York City into a deep freeze. The New York startup scene was seen as being driven by Wall Street wealth, and if that dried up, New York and the entrepreneurs in it were fully expected to pick up their marbles and go home (the way they did when the dot-com era burst). There wasn't a previous generation of tech startups to go back to working at large tech companies, the way it was in the Bay Area. Instead, quite the opposite happened. The hottest startup funding in 2009 didn't come out of the Valley, and it didn't come out of Boston. It blew up in the late summer of 2009 in New York City. Just before that, a string of blog posts between me (https://lnkd.in/e-AFURZQ), Fred Wilson (https://lnkd.in/e45HYBGR), and M.G. Siegler (https://lnkd.in/e28uttJH) at TechCrunch kicked off a hyper-competitive month for funding the next big thing in social networking. As Eric Friedman put it (https://lnkd.in/e8MBEJ4m), Foursquare "had captured the zeitgeist of New York tech" and "became a magnet for talent." Moreover, it was the backbone of a scene that was fueled by meetup hopping and IRL gatherings. Nostalgia for Foursquare is less of a story about missed equity upside than a story about a generation of New York tech kids, before we all had kids, trying to build a friendlier, less lonely internet. Plus, true New Yorkers always have a bit of place nostalgia for the spots that used to be. I don't miss the digital crown of Mayorship of Coffee Shop and my hard fought battle with Fred Wilson for it nearly as much as I miss the actual place and actually running into him and nearly everyone else from the tech community there. You can hear Dennis talk about bringing people together in the real world at dev/ai/nyc this Wednesday: https://luma.com/sjnwdzsw

At 3VC, throughout the last quarters we have observed many companies being affected by the drastic change in how people (and soon agents) search for information and discover answers. A "search and click" model has been replaced by an "answer-engine" model, resulting in significant traffic drops. Merry Carole Powers and Jay McGrath, our go-to-market venture partners are sharing insights with our community on how to approach the new reality. Step one is to understand if you’re visible or invisible to the answer engines by prompting questions your potential customers would ask. For example: ❓ What is the best product in [insert your category] for 2026? ❓What are the top 3 (insert your category) to fix (insert problem you solve for)? 👉 You can read about best practices and insights into what does not work in our blog: https://lnkd.in/dxzz3Xx5

Ben Drury is joining us at Future Forum. As CEO of Yoto, Ben has spent years building screenless devices that let kids listen, learn and imagine without a screen in front of them. His latest work goes further, using AI to help children create, not just consume, proof that innovation can protect imagination instead of replacing it. It's exactly the kind of thinking Future Forum exists to platform, technology built around what makes us human, not around what's easiest to automate. Ben joins us at Future Forum's flagship event this October, in King's Cross, London, alongside a brilliant lineup of founders, policymakers and creatives. You can learn more about Ben and get a pass to our 2026 flagship event in King's Cross, London, at the link in the comments.

“The biggest challenge in venture today isn’t finding companies, it’s seeing the entire market clearly and knowing where to focus. AI-powered sourcing unlocks both.” - Marco Squarci, Specter We had a great interview with Marco Squarci on how Specter is thinking about AI-driven, venture sourcing for Standard Metrics’ latest white paper. Using signals like career movements (such as founders going stealth) or company inflection points (like surges in users or profitability), Specter aims to give its customers a head start on sourcing. Thanks for the interview, Marco! We feature a number of AI-driven products in the VC space in our white paper. Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/dGVaG9yE

We’ve spent 30 years building digital "cages." Beautiful, high-fidelity, but static. Today, that changes. We’re thrilled to announce our investment in Odyssey's Series A round, alongside NVIDIA and GV (Google Ventures). Founders Oliver Cameron and Jeff Hawke aren’t just generating video—they’re building the engine for Generative Reality. Read about why we invested: https://lnkd.in/dA-v23Ed #WorldModels #AI #WyldVC

We believe AI can unlock new forms of creativity, not just replace it. Writers are one the largest creative classes but the way we write hasn’t changed much in 42 years. Marker is a reimagined word processor built on a simple idea: AI should write with you, not for you. Think a super-thesaurus, a built-in fact-checker, and an editor you can actually talk to in the margins while you work. Founders Jon Steinback (DeepMind, Facebook, Google) and Ryan Bowman (Nature, the FT, two decades building for writers) aren't trying to automate writing away. As Jon puts it: "People get to choose the future of writing, and I believe they will choose something that values the craft, rather than the slop brutally eroding it." Marker joins our portfolio of companies rebuilding how we work with AI – Granola for meetings, Figma for design, Notion for collaboration. Now, finally, something for the rest of us stuck typing in Word. We're excited to lead Marker's $13M seed round, alongside LocalGlobe, Betaworks, Radical Ventures, Tiny VC, Otherwise Fund — and angels including the founders behind Google Docs, Slack, and Hugging Face. More from Index Partner Georgia Stevenson: https://lnkd.in/ghycDFTf We can’t wait to see what gets written. Congrats Jon, Ryan, and the entire Marker team!

Is Europe or the US a better place to build a company? According to VEED co-founder and CEO Sabba Keynejad, Europe is the better choice. The more nuanced answer though is that founders can now build a successful company almost anywhere, with access to the same technology and tools and the ability to work remotely. Europe offers strong talent and easy access to markets across the continent, as well as links to the US and Asia. The US, however, still has more venture capital and a greater appetite for risk, the British entrepreneur tells LinkedIn News, but Europe’s startup ecosystem has improved considerably since he co-founded his video editing platform. Where do you think is the best place to build a company, and why? Watch the video and tell us in the comments. Missed the first part of our #WorldEntrepreneursDay coverage with Michael Lazarenko? Does your startup need its own venture fund? Gamma, the AI software startup valued at $2.1B, is launching a $10M fund with VC Afore Capital, Upstarts exclusively reports. I spoke to CEO Grant Lee about the "community" driven move -- and whether the tactic used by Anthropic and Perplexity can work for other, newer unicorns, too. "This isn't play money," argues Gaurav Jain, who is putting up the capital alongside Afore colleague Laura Du. And it's a tactic that has worked at a larger scale for Menlo Ventures with Anthropic, Menlo investor Matt Murphy tells Upstarts Media. But Ben Braverman, a co-founder at Saga Ventures, says his experience investing in startups on behalf of Flexport taught him there's a messy middle to avoid between founder-led checks and king-making ones. "It’s so hard to justify the distraction," he warns. Read our deep dive on what the startup ecosystem should know about this trend for free, thanks to our newsletter partner Mercury 👇 https://lnkd.in/gTHZeecx
