M.G. Siegler shared thisI'm not sure the world is ready for the AI personal assistant takeover. But I'm fairly certain the technology is now ready. The proactive capabilities will be the key to it working (or not) this time. https://lnkd.in/e_CjXJiq

The reason: the tech, powered by modern AI is almost shockingly good. 🐝 https://lnkd.in/ef7J2eQ5

M.G. Siegler reposted thisM.G. Siegler reposted thisToday Dolapo Falola and I are introducing Scuba, the shared context engine for teams and their agents. Never lose a great idea. Capture anything, share what matters, and keep your people and agents aligned as you move faster together. This one is personal. Before my mom passed, she made me promise my next job would make every workday feel like a weekend hobby. Every day building with Scuba feels like Saturday. Everyone is moving faster on their own with AI. But so few teams feel they’re moving smarter together. The models aren't intelligence bound anymore. They're context constrained. Scuba is the shared memory your team has been missing. Put it to work in Slack, Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and any tool that supports MCP. We run our whole company on it, with under two hours of meetings a week. We’re emerging from stealth with $34 million over two rounds. We’re grateful to Accel for leading our pre-seed and co-leading our seed with IVP, alongside BoxGroup, Conviction, Homebrew, and Scribble Ventures. Our angels include the founders of Slack (Stewart Butterfield Cal Henderson), Instagram (Mike Krieger), Stripe (Patrick Collison), LinkedIn (Reid Hoffman Jeff Weiner), Salesforce (Parker Harris), Datadog (Olivier Pomel), Vanta (Christina Cacioppo), Harvey (Winston Weinberg), Dropbox (Drew Houston), Abridge (Shiv (Shivdev) Rao), Duolingo (Severin Hacker), Granola (Christopher Pedregal), Warp (Zach Lloyd), Zynga (Mark Pincus), Groupon (Andrew Mason), Coda (Shishir Mehrotra), Opendoor (Eric Wu), and Flatiron Health (Zach Weinberg). Frontier models aren't intelligence bound anymore. They're context constrained. Bring your own brain and apply for early access: https://scuba.app.

M.G. Siegler liked thisM.G. Siegler liked thisThank you, Dennis Crowley. You knocked over the first domino in a series of events that led to me getting back into venture after my own failed startup, and you've always reminded people that tech's goal should be to bring us together in the real world. For those of you younger folks in tech who've seen the news about Foursquare's sale and are scratching your head as to why people are so nostalgic about this company, you have to understand what it meant to New York City tech at the time. In late 2008, the financial crisis had put venture funding in New York City into a deep freeze. The New York startup scene was seen as being driven by Wall Street wealth, and if that dried up, New York and the entrepreneurs in it were fully expected to pick up their marbles and go home (the way they did when the dot-com era burst). There wasn't a previous generation of tech startups to go back to working at large tech companies, the way it was in the Bay Area. Instead, quite the opposite happened. The hottest startup funding in 2009 didn't come out of the Valley, and it didn't come out of Boston. It blew up in the late summer of 2009 in New York City. Just before that, a string of blog posts between me (https://lnkd.in/e-AFURZQ), Fred Wilson (https://lnkd.in/e45HYBGR), and M.G. Siegler (https://lnkd.in/e28uttJH) at TechCrunch kicked off a hyper-competitive month for funding the next big thing in social networking. As Eric Friedman put it (https://lnkd.in/e8MBEJ4m), Foursquare "had captured the zeitgeist of New York tech" and "became a magnet for talent." Moreover, it was the backbone of a scene that was fueled by meetup hopping and IRL gatherings. Nostalgia for Foursquare is less of a story about missed equity upside than a story about a generation of New York tech kids, before we all had kids, trying to build a friendlier, less lonely internet. Plus, true New Yorkers always have a bit of place nostalgia for the spots that used to be. I don't miss the digital crown of Mayorship of Coffee Shop and my hard fought battle with Fred Wilson for it nearly as much as I miss the actual place and actually running into him and nearly everyone else from the tech community there. You can hear Dennis talk about bringing people together in the real world at dev/ai/nyc this Wednesday: https://luma.com/sjnwdzsw

David Stark from GroundUp Ventures open-sourced his OpenClaw instance to help fund managers improve their VC workflow. I think we can all agree that businesses not using some form of AI will soon be out of business, but every firm is different. The size of the team and investment stage dictate the specific toolset needed. What do you think? Is there a one-size-fits-all solution? The hardest part of fundraising is rarely the slide deck, it is getting in front of the right people at the right time. The opportunity XSS Capital was set up to improve how quality rounds move from early interest to firm commitments. For founders We focus on helping founders understand which investors are a real fit, and how to approach them with a clear and honest story. We act as a connector and guide so that founders can spend more time on the business, and less time lost in a maze of cold outreach. For investors Investors see opportunities that have already been organised into a simple, decision ready format. The connection The result is a cleaner path from first contact to term sheet, with more energy left for building the business. This approach reduces noise in the system so that strong stories have a better chance to be heard. See www.xss-capital.com for details on our approach and current focus. If strong companies can still fail to raise, is the core problem the quality of ideas or the quality of the fundraising process around them?

An underrated way to get in touch with VCs - get in touch with their portfolio company founders first. If there's a VC you believe is a strong fit for your business, odds are you'll have a much easier time getting in touch with a founder they invested in than the VC themselves. You can reach out saying you're considering reaching out to the VC, and want to hear about the founder's experience working with that investor over a 10-minute call. If you hit it off, you now have: - A potential intro from someone the investor trusts - Real insight into what that investor cares about - A connection who's likely connected with a number of VCs in your space And lastly, you can also do this after you've already reached out to the VC. If they haven't responded, this can be a more effective way to follow up. #startups #venture #VC #tech #entrepreneurship #fundriasing
