Jonny Dunning shared thisMany overruns begin before any work has started. If the scope, deliverables and assumptions behind an engagement are loosely defined when it's approved, there's no clear reference point against which to judge later changes. Approvals that only cover the first phase, or rely on optimistic estimates, leave Finance committed to a figure that was never realistic. PMI found that inaccurate requirements gathering was a primary cause in 35% of failed projects. Testing estimates against similar past engagements, and inviting competitive bids so prices and expertise can be compared, helps confirm the figure is achievable before it enters the forecast. The guide is linked in the comments. 📖 #ServicesProcurement #Procurement #StatementofWork #SOW #Finance #ServicesProcurementSystem Zivio

Jonny Dunning shared thisFind the executive who has to explain why services spend is over budget, why forecasts keep changing, or why the numbers don’t add up. Linc Markham’s advice is to start with the person feeling that pressure and who cares about getting the numbers right. In parts of the business with high third-party services reliance, unmanaged grey spend makes it harder to forecast accurately, track what’s been approved and explain where the money has gone. That gives them a real reason to push for change. The key is to show them what better services procurement would actually change day to day. More reliable forecasts, a clear trail from approval to payment, and fewer surprises when someone asks questions about the spend. When better visibility helps an executive answer difficult questions and stay on top of costs, they have a much stronger reason to make the case further up the business. Jonny Dunning shared thisWhen a third-party services project is approved, the figure that's signed off becomes part of the forecast. For work delivered under an SOW, that figure is rarely the final cost. Overruns tend to build gradually through changes agreed during delivery rather than appearing as a single event, so by the time they surface, Finance is often left explaining a variance it had no opportunity to prevent. Repeated across several engagements, that erodes the board's confidence in the forecast and in the controls behind it. This guide sets out seven practical ways Finance can work with Procurement to identify and manage overruns earlier, from approval through to delivery and payment. You'll find it linked in the comments. 👇 #ServicesProcurement #Procurement #StatementofWork #SOW #Finance #ServicesProcurementSystem Zivio

Jonny Dunning shared thisMisclassification can leave businesses facing significant financial penalties, legal claims and reputational damage, creating costs and compliance risks that are difficult to manage if they go unnoticed. Our latest survey found that misclassification has become the most cited challenge in services procurement, rising from 7% of challenge responses in 2025 to 22% in 2026. A contract may describe a service, but if the people delivering it are managed like employees, the business could face misclassification risks, including potential IR35 liabilities. For finance and business leaders, the challenge is knowing that the business is compliant, that risks are being managed, and that there won’t be unexpected costs further down the line. Without clear visibility into how third-party services are actually delivered, that confidence can be hard to come by. How confident are you that your third-party services are classified correctly, and that your business is managing its compliance and financial exposure? #ServicesProcurement #Procurement #ThirdPartyServices #StatementofWork #SOW #Finance Zivio

Jonny Dunning shared thisReally pleased to share this from team Zivio. We recently launched our MCP server, which means you can now ask AI assistants like Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot about what's going on across your third-party services spend. Invoices waiting, approvals outstanding, overdue items, spend visualisations etc - all through whatever AI tool you're already using. Zivio stays as the system of record, process and governance in the background, the AI just gives you another way to interact with it. Live demos of this with my colleague speaking to Claude on his mobile to generate reports went down very well at a recent industry conference! More to come on this. If you'd like to see it in action just let me know. #ThirdPartyServices #ServicesProcurement #MCP #AIJonny Dunning shared thisWhat needs your attention today across your third-party services? The Zivio MCP connection lets teams ask AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude and Copilot about the supplier invoices, questions and approvals waiting for their attention. It can highlight overdue items and suggest what to work through first. For teams managing multiple service providers and statements of work, this offers another way to keep track of outstanding tasks without searching through the Zivio platform. Users can choose read-only or full access when connecting, and the assistant can only access the Zivio data they are authorised to see. #ThirdPartyServices #ServicesProcurement #Procurement #SOW #MCP #AI

Interesting survey out today from Zivio on the evolving services procurement market. Some key takeaways: - Misclassification risk tops the list of customers challenges - A lack of business recognition of the challenges presented by SoWs, plus technology constraints prevent businesses from implementing dedicated services procurement management - 70% of respondents identify the need for improvements in the entire SoW management business cycle Time for change then... Services procurement often struggles not because of a lack of effort, but because it’s managed in fragments. Decisions are made in isolation, ownership is split, and data sits across disconnected systems, making it difficult to see how services are really performing. Patti Vora and Jonny Dunning, explore why services procurement maturity comes from taking a holistic view through connecting people, processes, data and governance, so organisations can reduce blind spots, manage risk more effectively and make better decisions across the full services lifecycle. https://lnkd.in/enwG_e5C #ServicesProcurement #Procurement #StatementofWork #SOW #ServicesProcurementSystem

Spreadsheets, emails and antiquated tools are not a services procurement strategy. Managing SOW-based services with tools built for goods or contingent labour creates risk, not control (especially as services spend grows year on year). Without clear visibility, governance and data, cost overruns go unnoticed, contract terms are poorly enforced, supplier performance is unclear, risks go unmanaged, timelines slip, and the value procurement delivers is hard to prove. Perhaps it's a change in perception of what procurement's involvement should be. Goods procurement stops at the PO. But the real value in services procurement starts there. If services spend is growing, shouldn’t the way we manage it evolve too? #servicesprocurement #SOW #servicesspend Zivio

A purchase order confirms money was committed. It tells you almost nothing about what that money actually bought. In services, that gap carries real financial risk. The PO doesn't reflect what was agreed in the SOW, doesn't move when the scope moves, and says nothing about whether the work was delivered. A project approved at one number can quietly settle at a very different one, with nothing in between to explain how. Across a whole category of spend, that exposure adds up. You can't forecast with confidence, you can't show a clean line from approval to payment, and you're short of answers when someone senior asks the obvious question. Ben Laker, and I discuss why this matters, and why seeing past the PO is how a material area of spend becomes something you can stand behind. #ServicesProcurement #Procurement #StatementofWork #SOW #ServicesProcurementSystem Zivio

Self-service doesn’t remove procurement expertise, it changes where it’s applied. When teams are supported to scope work properly and engage suppliers transparently, projects run cleaner and the disputes that usually surface too late disappear. That’s how procurement stops being reactive and becomes a strategic enabler. #ServicesProcurement #Procurement #StatementofWork #SOW Nicola Everett #ServicesProcurementSystem Zivio #ContingentWorkforce

Is your organisation managing services procurement spend with tools built for headcount? This piece from Zivio makes a clear distinction: Contingent labour = buying capacity. Services procurement = buying outcomes. They look similar on the surface, but the complexity, accountability, and measurement challenges are fundamentally different. Good reading for anyone who feels the VMS isn't quite doing the job. https://lnkd.in/e8Gih3Wk #ServicesProcurement #SOW #StatementofWork

When millions in external services spend cannot be linked back to the outcomes they were meant to deliver, that is more than an operational nuisance. It is a serious blind spot, leaving an organisation unable to demonstrate what it actually received for the money it spent. And the problem often stays hidden until someone asks for the evidence. If an auditor asked you to evidence what your services spend delivered, would you be reaching for a report or searching through an inbox? #ServicesProcurement #Procurement #StatementofWork #SOW #ServicesProcurementSystem Zivio

Procurement continues to hold overall responsibility for services spend in most organisations, but the picture is less clear when you look beyond the headline. In 2026, 38% of survey respondents said their third-party services spend isnt centrally managed at all. That raises a bigger question about how much visibility Finance really has over what the organisation is committing to across different teams and projects. When responsibility is fragmented across the business, supplier selection, budget alignment, changes to scope and additional commitments can all happen in different places, making it harder to build a complete picture of the financial position. How confident are you that you can see the full picture of your organisations third-party services commitments? #ServicesProcurement #Procurement #StatementofWork #SOW #ServicesProcurementSystem Zivio

“In order to see these pieces together and look at total talent, you need different lenses, right? Like, because if you only have a TA lens, you're only looking at one channel of where your workforce can come in.” A significant amount of work sits outside traditional TA, delivered through services and contingent models. When these channels aren’t viewed together under one lens, it makes it harder to see true capacity, cost, or risk. Until businesses look across the full workforce mix, decisions will continue to optimise headcount rather than outcomes. #ServicesProcurement #Procurement #StatementofWork #SOW #ServicesProcurementSystem Zivio
