And while COVID-19 slows down economies and emissions globally, the structural long-term challenges of climate change persist. The response to COVID-19 provides the opportunity to use newly proposed stimulus packages to address the climate challenge and, by doing so, boost growth in jobs and several sectors of the economy. The Best COVID-19 Stimulus Plans Will Fight Climate Change, TooThe Best COVID-19 Stimulus Plans Will Fight Climate Change, TooMarco Duso

James Tabor shared thisJames Tabor shared thisWe have been working with the amazing folks at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and have deployed a #covid19 staff support tool. This is helping the #NHS manage the occupational health workload, ensuring that staff are following proper self-isolation protocol, identifying who is a priority for testing and providing a central picture of the workforce to aid planning. This is just one of a number of solutions we are developing to help keep front-line workers safe. They had to close recently and make 80% of their staff redundant. Undeterred, the pair hacked together a @Shopify/@Typeform site and pivoted into a Michelin-starred delivery service. After 12+ years building products and ventures across startups, consulting and corporate environments, I’m looking forward to continuing that journey at Bain. AI is dramatically expanding what we can build. But turning that possibility into products people want and businesses that create real value is the challenge that excites me most. I’m looking forward to partnering with our clients to imagine, build and scale the products and businesses that will shape the future 🚀

James Tabor reacted on thisJames Tabor reacted on this9 years ago today I walked out of the office of the job I hated. I had just quit being a lawyer. Everyone told me I’d made a massive mistake. People around me told me I should stick it out for 10 years and see how it goes. Aim to get to Partner. They told me I was a fool for thinking of starting a business. Less than 5% make it past the first year They told me I’d regret it. Forever. The thing is, I would have stayed if they’d listened. I watched toxic behaviour, obscene hierarchy, the people at the top lining their pockets while junior staff were wildly underpaid and constant bullying. The environment was what made me leave. Not the job itself. I was the first person who had been vocal about this. I said if all of that changed I’d think about sticking about. Knowing this would never happen. When I walked out of those doors I decided to build a business. Where people were listened to. Where hierarchy doesn’t get in the way. Where bullying is not tolerated. Where you can progress based on the merits of your work. Not how long you’ve been there for. People don’t stick around because of how much you pay them. Those are table stakes. Make sure they are paid fairly. They stay because you put them in an environment where they can thrive, develop and are heard Where their work has meaning and they are psychologically safe It was the best move I ever made. Scary as hell. 8 years in and we’re still thriving🖕

James Tabor liked thisJames Tabor liked this20 years working in the media industry - how did that happen? This week marks my two decades working in this industry, starting out as a fresh-faced graduate at Clear Channel. It came full circle as I returned this month to OOH in my new role of CRO at Global Street Art. Since I joined, the industry has undergone radical transformation. A tech platform oligopoly. The rise of programmatic. Retail media. And yet, the more things seem to change, the more they stay the same. The fundamentals of what makes this industry great remain - and we should never lose sight of that. 1. Your network is your strongest asset My biggest learning from my career break is the importance of the network. Some of my most trusted confidants remain those I met in my first two years in media. This is an industry predicated on relationships, so invest in it. It is probably one of the most enjoyable parts of our job. I have heard people say don't have time to focus on their network. My response? Find the time, because there will invariably be a moment in the not-too-distant future where you wished that you did. 2. Creative remains king The media mix might have evolved. The number of channels and consumer touchpoints might have tripled. But the importance of great creative remains. It is still one of the biggest drivers of ROI. That buzz you get when you see a new creative platform for the first time should be bottled. As should that feeling when you see the final assets for a big brand campaign, safe in the knowledge that media and creative will elevate each other to deliver big brand results. One of the reasons I joined GSA is how it is centred around creativity and craft. Great creative platforms and execution will rise in importance as a differentiator as AI-generated assets become more prevalent. 3. Remain curious At a Clear Channel conference in 2010, Sean Ashby told us to "be naive". It has always stuck by me. It allows us to remain aware of the world around us, reject the status quo, and to embrace a growth mindset. My career is proudly squiggly. There have been successes and some periods where I was less successful. But every move I made or big career decision (for good or for ill) I took was because I was curious. I didn't embrace convention and its linear path. Additionally, I undertook my global MBA because I was curious about the wider world of business. I was naive in thinking media and advertising operated like many other sectors (it does not). A boss from my formative sales career said I should be curious about a client's business. It allows me to spot opportunities and strike up conversations our competitors miss. And it remains true to this day. In a landscape evolving at breakneck speed, the fundamentals of networking, creativity, and curiosity remain refreshingly - and reassuringly - consistent. (Here's a picture from my first industry conference, in Malta October 2006 - as I said, fresh faced).

James Tabor liked thisJames Tabor liked thisI grew up on the Bond films. In my twenties I fell in love with Fleming's original novels. And the watch that made me restart Vertex was a Cal 59 W.W.W., a gift from my mother. So I'm still slightly lost for words that today, in King Zero, Charlie Higson's new James Bond novel for Ian Fleming Publications, 007 wears a Vertex Cal 59 W.W.W. The W.W.W. was built for the British Army in the Second World War. It was one of the "Dirty Dozen" watches: tough, legible and made to do a job. That's why it fits Bond on the page. Thank you to Esquire UK for covering the story: [link] Thank you as well to everyone who has worn, collected and championed Vertex over the years. This one is for you, and for my mum. The average TeeGo member improves by 4 shots in their first year. Chris & I started TeeGo believing that golfers wanted a convenient place to scratch that golf itch... somewhere that was not a bar with golf on the side. And fortunately that belief has led to that number. 4 shots. *A massive thank you* to our: members (we love you!), coaches, team, partners & investors for making golf on your doorstep a reality across London. Here's to the next three! ⛳

I've been fascinated (read: very worried) by the wild story of OpenAI's unreleased AI models hacking both OpenAI and Hugging Face. It often feels like the UK is a spectator when it comes to major AI developments. I don't think it has to be that way. Frankly we can't afford it to be. Here's a few thoughts on what Britain could do to protect itself from the growing risks of powerful AI. https://lnkd.in/eHSKjkmQ

Here is a snippet from his recent conversation with Scott Weavers-Wright OBE about why. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/d4z2_6Wb Don’t invest unless you’re prepared to lose all the money you invest. Excl: US tech giant Cloudflare has acquired London-based AI startup Human Native for an undisclosed sum. Just as iTunes and Spotify helped defeat music piracy in the 2000s, Human Native aimed to take genAI “out of its Napster era”, building an ethical alternative to open-scraping the web for training data. Cofounders James Smith, PhD and Jack Galilee built an online marketplace for creatives to license their content to AI developers for a fee. Now Cloudflare plans to integrate that marketplace into its existing stack globally. Human Native previously raised a total of £7.8m across two funding rounds, backed by investors such as LocalGlobe and Mercuri GP LLP.
