A new chapter begins for me this month when I take up the post of Executive Director of Student Services & Registrar at UCL. The role is such an exciting opportunity to have real impact. The welcome and professionalism from UCL have been so positive and I can’t wait to start.

I have decided to run the Loch Ness Marathon in September and to fundraise for a cause that affects so many people in later life. I have worked with some amazing people on the project teams, and I'm extremely proud of what we achieved and the challenges we overcame in an ever changing UK sector. I am really looking forward to getting back to being closer to academic delivery and students in my new role, and getting to know more about the wonderful and impactful initiatives within the Faculty, and of course meeting lots of new people and finding my way around the faculty estate.

Matthew brings extensive senior leadership experience across the sector, including his current role as Chief Operating Officer and Pro Vice-Chancellor Student Experience at the University of Gloucestershire, where he was also University Secretary and Registrar. With expertise in governance, academic administration, and higher education policy, Matthew has championed initiatives to widen access to higher education. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. Matthew will succeed Sharon Harrison-Barker, who retires in April after more than 20 years of outstanding service at Herts. Please join us in welcoming Matthew to the University of Hertfordshire.
