4.10.1. Creating a Disk Image
You can create an image of a storage device by using the Create Image option in Stellar Data Recovery. A disk image is a full copy of the selected device. It helps you protect your data and makes recovery easier if the original device fails, becomes corrupted or cannot be accessed.
You can create an image of the following storage devices:
-
Hard disks
-
Existing logical volumes on hard disks
-
Removable media, such as pen drives and external hard disks.
Note: These devices support imaging because they contain file systems and partitions. Other devices may not support imaging because they do not have the required structure or compatibility.
All images created by Stellar Data Recovery are saved as IMG files. The IMG file has the same size as the source device. You can use this image later to continue or resume the data recovery process.
Tip: Create a disk image before you start recovery if the hard drive has many bad sectors. This helps prevent further damage to the drive.
The image file size is equal to the size of the selected hard disk, pen drive, or volume. Make sure the destination location has enough free space to store the image file.
