Historical Team Templates

From Liquipedia Hub Wiki

Historical Team Templates are used similarly to standard Team Templates but to display different names or logos to a team based on the dates those changes took place. This is most commonly referred as "team rebranding" and the one of the following takes place:

  • A team changes its logo (most common)
  • A team changes its name and/or shortname
  • A team changes its bracket display name

Creating a historial team template is significantly harder than creating a standard team template, so please check the following sections with attention.

Creating a historical team template

[edit]

To create a historical team template you will need the following:

  • The 'old' team template already existing on the wiki
  • The exact date that the change occured
  • The new logo (if it is a logo change) uploaded on commons conforming to our File Standards

Tutorial

[edit]
  1. Upload your images, name them according to normal conventions, but provide some sequence i.e. Team Liquid 2020 lightmode.png, Team Liquid 2023 lightmode.png
  2. Special:TeamTemplates
    1. Move the existing template to the correct sub-template name i.e. team liquid to team liquid orig using the tool at the bottom of the page.
    2. Now we have to create the other version(s). We do this by creating teams like we normally would, except now with the right logo and by using "Historical Suffix" to have the template go to the right place. For example, we will enter Team Liquid as our normal Team name, but will input 2023 as our Historical Suffix name.
  3. Create the historical template. First off is the intended master template name (so team liquid). Then, for Subtemplate name, enter the template with the oldest logo (team liquid 2017). Template change date is when the team switched logo's and now for the next Sub-Template name enter the template with the logo that was switched to (team liquid 2023). Use the add team button in case the team switched logo's more than once (always to be oldest to newest).
