Maheshwer Peri shared thisThere is something about speaking at a Central University - where students of all profiles hear you and question you too. They value education and most importantly critical thinking.. They behave less robotic and have an opinion. Really enjoyed my talk here..Maheshwer Peri shared this📉 India's young population is no dividend without investment. The Department of Communication, Sarojini Naidu School of Arts and Communication, University of Hyderabad, hosted the 17th Dr. C V S Sarma Memorial Lecture on 11 September 2026, held annually in honour of our departed colleague and senior faculty member Dr. C V S Sarma. This year's speaker was Mr. Maheshwer Peri, Founder and Chairman of Careers360, a data-led education and career planning platform, and former President & Publisher of the Outlook Group. His lecture: "Demographic Dividend or Demographic Nightmare: India's Ticking Time Bomb" 🎤 His central argument was that India's vast population does not by itself justify a claim to a demographic advantage. A dividend arrives when a nation invests in the education of its young — not merely in upskilling them for employment. Education, he argued, equips a young population with the capacity to think and a broad vision for both life and work. Some of what he laid out: 📊 68.4% of Indians are of working age — but that describes an age profile, not productivity 💰 Education's share of net revenue receipts has fallen from a peak of 7.01% to 3.8%, against a promise of 6% restated by NEP 2020 🏫 Government colleges grew 1% while private colleges grew 42%; around 1.1 lakh government schools closed between 2015–16 and 2023–24 🎓 IIM Ahmedabad fees have risen from ₹3.16 lakh in 2012 to ₹27.5 lakh today 🧾 1.86 crore applications for roughly 55,000 advertised government posts — 338 candidates per vacancy 📚 In NEET, cities with top coaching institutes recorded an 87% success rate against 13.5% in cities without them 🚪 31.5% of students drop out between Classes 9 and 12 ⚠️ Continued underinvestment, he warned, could turn the dividend into a disaster over the next twenty to thirty years. 💬 The lecture was well attended by students, faculty and members of Hyderabad's civil society, and was followed by a stimulating Q&A. Asked why education is not given greater priority, Mr. Peri was more hopeful than the lecture might suggest: education, he said, has become a subject of major public discussion, and people are now talking about schools and colleges — among the most positive developments in the country in recent years. 🙏 Our thanks to Mr. Peri for a lecture that gave our students far more to argue with than to simply agree with. 🎓 #UniversityOfHyderabad #UoH #DepartmentOfCommunication #CVSSarmaMemorialLecture #MaheshwerPeri #Careers360 #DemographicDividend #HigherEducation #EducationPolicy #NEP2020 #IndianEducation #PublicLecture #InstitutionOfEminence #Hyderabad

Maheshwer Peri shared thisI have worked for journalism organisations and I am an Entreprenuer too. When I see stories on business, I can judge the source of the story - PR, an internal leak, investigative reporting or the dirty tricks department of a competitor. However, good journalism organisations don’t fall prey and are careful when the source is a competitor. This story about a change of guard at Aakash stinks. It floats a theory with no concrete evidence. It is hazy, conflicted and conflating developments for a pre determined headline. While within the story, there is a denial from the company, where a spokesman talks of current CEO’s continuity, the headline is talking exactly the opposite. With all the conversations that I had and the information I am privy to, Aakash is more stable now than a couple of years back. With the ownership tussle cleaned, it is pushing for growth. The incumbent CEO will push for international and digital growth. The 96% revenue business will continue to be handled by Sekar Garisa. So, the big question is - why did ET carry this story? AESL is an unlisted company with no public investment. What was the purpose of carrying a story that isn’t clear, lacks substance, has a denial within the story but the headline screams the opposite!!

Maheshwer Peri liked thisMaheshwer Peri liked thisHad such a great time speaking on the UX Summer Internship Panel at Pratt last week alongside Arcadia Calimano, Shasteny Maclang, Christina L., Harshita Dandu & Kirsten Segeren! ⭐️ A few significant takeaways: case studies and interview answers should communicate how you collaborate and decide, not just what was designed; the best interview questions build on what was just discussed; fold your AI curiosity into your class projects instead of treating it as a separate side quest. Was also super fun planning this event with my team: Meredith Brull, Harleen Kaur, Debodyuti Biswas & Shreya Kondapalli! Grateful for the chance to give back to students finding their path. The internship search can be a grind, but staying consistent, not giving up, and networking will take you far 💖

Maheshwer Peri liked thisMaheshwer Peri liked thisFamily succession is easy to discuss in theory, It takes an entirely different depth of understanding to have lived through it- as Mr. Sunil Kant Munjal knows firsthand. It was a privilege to be speaking at the CII Family Business Summit 2026 and discuss this critical subject with two leaders who have lived the journey Mr. Sunil Kant Munjal Chairman, Hero Enterprise, and Mr. Sachit Jain, Chairman Vardhman Special Steels. Mr. Munjal’s insights on family settlements were particularly powerful. What is often seen as a potential source of disruption can, when handled with clarity and foresight, become a source of discipline, resilience and long-term stability. Mr. Jain brought an equally important perspective: when it comes to succession, particularly with both sons and daughters in the next generation, there is no standard playbook. Every family has its own dynamics, values and aspirations. My biggest takeaway: the best succession plans are not copied; they are thoughtfully designed. Thank you to CII for facilitating such an important conversation. It was also a pleasure engaging with Mr.@Harpreet Nibber and Mr. Ashish Garg Chair and Vice-Chair, CII Punjab. The ultimate measure of succession is not who takes over, but whether the family and the institution emerge stronger. #CII #FamilyBusiness #Succession #FamilyGovernance #Leadership #NextGeneration #Legacy

Why international curricula will define the future of K12 education in India Academic grades alone no longer secure long-term success. The global consensus, captured in frameworks like the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) - Future of Education and Skills 2030 (and its Learning Compass 2030), emphasises the need for a broader set of competencies: Critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, social and emotional skills, ethical awareness and the capacity to learn continuously. Read the full article by Caroline Pendleton-Nash, CEO of Queen Elizabeth’s Global Schools, sharing insight into how international curricula are responding to the aspirations of families and preparing learners for an evolving future. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gBRr8Zbe #QueenElizabethsSchoolGurugram #BritishEducation #UKCurriculum #CambridgeInternationalCurriculum #InternationalEducation #FutureReadyLearners

The VBSA Bill is not just another administrative reform—it signals a fundamental shift in power within India’s higher education ecosystem. One of the core promises of NEP 2020 was structural autonomy: 1. Independent funding mechanisms 2. Reduced bureaucratic control 3. Institutions empowered to innovate However, the VBSA Bill appears to re-centralise funding authority within the Ministry of Education, moving away from the NEP’s proposed independent grants framework. Let’s call this out plainly: a) When funding control sits with the same authority that regulates, evaluates, and governs—autonomy becomes conditional. b) When grants depend on ministerial discretion, academic freedom risks becoming negotiable. c) When reform speaks the language of decentralisation but practices centralisation, trust erodes. Supporters argue this ensures efficiency and accountability. Critics warn it opens doors to overreach, politicisation, and uneven access—especially for regional, private, and emerging institutions. The real question is not administrative convenience. The real question is: Do we want universities that comply—or universities that think? This is a moment the education community must engage with—actively, publicly, and critically. 🔗 Read the full report here (Telegraph India): https://lnkd.in/gtGSq6Zh #VBSA #NEP2020 #EducationPolicy #HigherEducation #AcademicAutonomy #PolicyMatters #EducationReform #IndiaEducation #Governance #ThinkBeyondCompliance

Bihar’s Education Overhaul : Panchayat-Level Hubs to Strengthen Academic Support and Peer Learning Bihar’s education department has launched a significant restructuring initiative aimed at improving academic support and enhancing classroom practices across the state’s government schools. In a bid to implement the vision set out by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the state has established new Complex Resource Centres at the panchayat level. This reform involves bringing all primary, middle, secondary, senior secondary schools, and Anganwadi centers under the umbrella of these hubs....
