Swarup Nanda shared thisOur largest challenge 18 months back was to pivot ourselves from being a traditional business of many years to a digital business. The same had challenges at multiple levels for us, largely at the mindset and culture level. To build a product for users across the globe from India, needed much much more than just capital. Hence, we started looking at several global accelerator programs, to ensure we learn from the very best, to get access to great mentors, become a part of a global peer-founder network, understand a lot of nuances of product management and user acquisition. MOX was one among our list of the top 5 global accelerators we wanted to be a part of. We are privileged that we made it to MOX and they have exceeded our expectations at so many levels, it's unbelievable. We have learnt a zillion things at MOX, from fundraising, testing product-market fits of various parts, building a culture of mapping performance via objectives and key results, developing detailed growth metrics and making a habit of checking and reporting back whatever the data tells us, the list is endless. We yet work with the growth team of Dan & TR, on a weekly basis. The learning never stops at MOX, mentors and advisors from all over the globe have been sharing their insights with us, and there is something to look forward to almost each week. Beyond all the above, it's a team of people you would want to associate and be friends with for a lifetime. #AskMeAboutMOX #BackedbySOSV , Sean O'Sullivan, William Bao Bean, SOSV MOX, SOSV, Jenne Wong, Minjia Wu, Dan Shao , TR Harrington, Jessie H., Naman Sehgal, Sheng Ge , Lace Nguyen, Preeti Grover Chib, Malini Nair

Swarup Nanda liked thisSwarup Nanda liked thisSpent over a hour with Vaidyanathan V, MD & CEO of IDFC FIRST Bank yesterday. Such a humble person, and so enthusiastic about startups. He runs a large bank but really enjoys spending time with early-stage founders. I liked that. His team told me they work with over 38,000 startups across India. Our young entrepreneurs are doing some serious nation building work. Good to see them getting this kind of backing.

Swarup Nanda liked thisSwarup Nanda liked thisOur lives are made up of journeys and processes. A journey comprises many transactions and interactions that come together. Just as a writer brings words and sentences together to form paragraphs, chapters and books. Digital tools and apps we typically use help us with transactions, the task execution. Such solutions are not quite effective to deliver the journey, but are usually efficient in performing the transaction. Intelligence capable of understanding different contexts across time with an ability to interact, decide and act is necessary for a successful journey to emerge. Today it is often left to the user (or if you are Bertie Wooster then Jeeves) to hold the thread on journeys through spreadsheets, to-dos sheets, calendar reminders, etc. The journeys that don't happen is the life not lived. Emerging AI-based capabilities and ventures point to the possibility of complete journeys (or projects as some may call it), and not tasks or transactions, becoming the deliverable of such systems. There will surely be many teething problems on the way though. And who knows, apart from individual journeys, enterprise journeys too currently living as rigid processes defined by SOPs and delivered by enterprise software may see a new life too. As a second order effect, lines between the individual and enterprise could blur too.

Swarup Nanda liked thisSwarup Nanda liked thisHoomanely is in TechCrunch today. What I appreciated most about the story is that it captured the problem behind everything we are building: animals are remarkably good at hiding when something is wrong. By the time a change becomes obvious to us, it may have been developing for days or weeks. This is why we started with something as ordinary as eating and drinking. A bowl is one of the most consistent observation points in a dog’s life. Same place, similar posture, repeated every day for years. Changes in appetite, hydration, eating speed, chewing, swallowing, oral movement and temperature can tell us that something has shifted from that animal’s own normal. Over the last 18 months, we have collected roughly 5 million data points across more than 80 dogs. During the beta, we saw changes in feeding behaviour that were later associated with issues including an infected chipped tooth and tick fever. These are encouraging signals, but they are not the finish line. Hoomanely is building the longitudinal health record that does not exist today, so pet parents and vets have better evidence when something begins to change. EverBowl is only our first capture point. Over time, we want to build the data infrastructure that makes animal health continuously readable. We are already working toward additional devices and, eventually, an animal-health data infrastructure that can extend beyond dogs. Grateful to Ram Iyer and TechCrunch for spending time understanding what we are building, and to Harshal Hinger, Vipin Ravindran and the entire Hoomanely team for building it with me. I am sharing the link to the TechCrunch article in the comments.

Swarup Nanda liked thisSwarup Nanda liked thisEngineering Capital Before you scale a technology company, you have to build one worth scaling. The final meeting of Day 1 brought the TiE Mumbai US Tech Delegation to Engineering Capital, where the founders met Ashmeet Sidana, Chief Engineer. And the conversation brought the focus back to something fundamental: Technology. Engineering Capital describes its approach around backing entrepreneurs driven by technical insight, investing early in companies creating new categories in information technology. For founders, that makes the conversation particularly relevant. Because when you're building a technology company, the questions aren't only: Is there a market? They're also: -Is the problem technically difficult enough to matter? -Can the product become a category? That engineering-first lens can be especially valuable for founders working on DeepTech, infrastructure, AI and other technology-led businesses. The conversation was a reminder that behind every ambitious technology company is a layer that doesn't always make it into the pitch deck: the engineering thinking that makes the ambition possible. Different people.Different questions. But one shared ambition - helping founders think beyond the market they started in. Day 1, done. The journey had only just begun. Swarup Nanda liked thisSwarup Nanda liked thisCapgemini From a startup idea to a global enterprise opportunity. A startup can have great technology. But the harder question is: how does that technology reach the enterprises that need it? That was at the heart of the TiE Mumbai US Tech Delegation’s conversation at Capgemini’s Applied Innovation Exchange in San Francisco, with Bryan Brochu, Ecosystem Director, Applied Innovation Exchange. For our founders, the conversation opened up a different way of looking at the US market. Not simply as a place to find customers. But as an ecosystem to find the right partners, enterprise pathways and opportunities to scale. Because for many startups, getting the first few customers is one challenge. Getting your technology adopted inside a large global enterprise is another. And that is where conversations like this become valuable - understanding what enterprises are actually looking for, how innovation gets evaluated, and what it takes to move from a promising solution to something that can operate at scale. For a delegation of founders looking to take their innovation global, this was an important room to be in.. That journey looks very different when you understand the ecosystem around it. Over the last couple of years, the ASLI community has introduced me to operators, care professionals and many others who are deeply committed to building elder care in India. Some became clients. Some became collaborators. A few simply became good friends. It's also a chance to share what we've been working on. We're building RelyWorks around the realities of running an elder care business. Swarup Nanda liked thisSwarup Nanda liked this#Announcement: Every time a new book of mine is about to launch, a heavy parcel arrives from my publisher, Penguin, with the first physical dummy. To the world, it’s just a big cardboard and plastic. To me, it is priceless. It’s hundreds of 5 AM drafts, discarded notes and the quiet fear of wondering if the idea would ever come to life. Writing is an exhausting and a very lonely grind - trust me, I have published 7 books and on my 8th one! Most days feel like pushing a boulder uphill in the dark, fighting with immense self-doubt. Sometimes, I even wonder if this journey is worth it. But running my fingers over that fresh plastic / cardboard dummy makes every painful hour worth it. It’s the tangible proof that turning a blank page into something real is always worth the friction and more important than any money. I am delighted to announce that my 7th book, 'Stop being a bad negotiator' officially arrives on October 12. The pre-orders on Amazon are now open. Link in the comments.
