NEXT STEPS

What is a SERP snippet?

A SERP (search engine results page) snippet is the listing for your page in Google Search: a favicon and site name, the URL breadcrumb, a blue title link and a short description. For a new product it is often the first impression people get, so it is worth checking before launch day.

This SERP preview shows how your meta title and meta description could look on desktop and mobile, warns when they are likely to be cut off, and gives you the <title> and <meta name="description"> tags to copy. It is a free Google search preview with no sign-up.

Recommended snippet lengths

Title (<title>)About 50–60 characters, up to roughly 600px wideGoogle may cut longer titles with an ellipsis or rewrite them. Lead with what the product does.
Meta descriptionAbout 70–155 characters on desktop, around 120 on mobileNot a ranking factor, but it is often the text people read before they click.
URL / breadcrumbDomain plus the first path segmentsShort, readable paths look cleaner. Use HTTPS.
FaviconSquare, a multiple of 48px, at least 48 × 48Shown next to the result on mobile and desktop. Make one with the Favicon Generator.

These are guidelines, not rules. Google measures pixels and may show more or less text depending on the query and device.

How to preview and improve your snippet

  1. Import your page with its URL, or type a title, description and URL.
  2. Switch between desktop and mobile and read the checks.
  3. Rewrite until nothing is truncated, then copy the HTML tags into your page head.
  4. Check your social share card with the Social Media Preview Checker, and add a missing favicon with the Favicon Generator.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the real Google search result?

No. It is a simulation built from the title, description, URL and favicon you provide. Google decides what to show and may rewrite titles and descriptions based on the query, so treat it as a close guide, not a guarantee.

What is the ideal title length for Google?

Google truncates by pixel width rather than characters, usually around 600px. That is about 50–60 characters for typical text. Wide letters such as W and M use more space than narrow ones.

What is the ideal meta description length?

Keep it between roughly 70 and 155 characters. Mobile results often show less text than desktop, so put the main benefit first.

How does Import from URL work?

Firsto’s server downloads your page’s HTML with a normal HTTP request, with a short timeout and a size limit, and reads the title, meta description, canonical, robots tag, favicon and Open Graph tags. It does not run JavaScript, so pages that set their metadata only in the browser may come back empty. Private and local addresses are blocked. The result is cached for a few minutes and nothing is stored in an account.

Do I need to sign up?

No. The tool is free, needs no account and adds no watermark.

Why does my page show a different title in Google?

Google sometimes replaces titles that are too long, too generic or stuffed with keywords, and may use your headings or link text instead. Write a clear, specific title that matches the page content to reduce rewrites.
