They’re expected to perform more tasks than their limited resources allow. Is there a way out? Yes: Promise and then deliver bigger business results than would have been achieved by the endless laundry list of tasks. Unfortunately, most Product Managers are stuck churning out feature after feature, with little say in their professional life, because they don’t have a compelling enough product vision. You need a product vision that’s obviously better than the task list. Then you need to get buy-in from your stakeholders. Is that easy? No. Can it be done? Yes. Here's how: Step 1: Identify the biggest issue holding back your product. Every product has one issue holding it back more than any other. It can be found by looking at user metrics. Maybe there isn’t enough traffic coming to the site, or users won’t sign up for a trial, or they won’t convert after the trial period, or they leave after a few months. Every product has many issues, but only one can be the biggest. Step 2: Bring a logical plan to the table. An old-style project plan is not compelling enough. It’s basically a list of actions, which may or may not solve your biggest issue. Instead, you need to identify the causes of your product’s biggest issue. If you can - show the benefits of solving your biggest issue - show that you understand what causes it - promise to remove those causes… …then you have a compelling plan that can get you buy-in. Step 3: Show results. If you methodically attack the causes of your problem, you are bound to fix it. Try small, low-risk experiments. Metrics will tell you what’s working. When the needles begin to move, you have evidence that trusting your product vision was the right decision. Easy? No. Can it be done? Yes, it has been done over and over again.

One interesting thing: I asked several people (both engineers and non-engineers) about what they think of the future of software engineering. The “closer” to shipping production code folks are, the less they believe software engineering will be “solved” fully by AI. And the more removed / less hands on, the more they believed that it is either pretty much already solved or will be solved eventually, as models improve. I would think this is a kind of bias when you overestimate model capability for areas you know very little of. (I could be wrong, but then so are hands-on software engineers inside the labs!)

AI is seriously amazing. i asked it to find a better route for the Sydney - London flight Opus 4.8 found a much more efficient route that flys in a straight line instead of a curved one. but Fable 5 found an even better route that's half the distance! please tag Qantas so they can see this, this will revolutionize the airline industry

This means no need to worry about elbowing people out of the way to try and make yourself “safe” and important. So everyone helps everyone.” I spent a few hours today at NVIDIA HQ, and this was one of the many things that felt different about how lots of other tech companies operate. I'm considering doing a deepdive with more details about engineeiring + eng culture NVIDIA. Despite it being the highest-valued company, there are surprisingly few public details about this area.

This was an API that managed deployments of docker containers across multiple teams, services and zones. We always had a QA and test-focused mindset, and I remember we tried reaching 100% coverage just to see if it was possible. A gimmick of sorts. Look at the bookmarks. They tell the story of how this was the first time I used Flask in Python development. Good times. Shoutout to Raphael Amoedo who worked on this project with me back then.

Key figures: - 135M Customers (+4M in Q1) - $5.0B Revenue (+53% YoY) - $0.9B Net Income (+41% YoY FX-neutral) - $37.2B Credit Portfolio (+40% YoY) - $42.4B Deposits (+22% YoY) The most interesting takeaway? Nu's scale is starting to show up across the entire business. The digital bank continues to grow customers at a rapid pace, while revenue, profitability, deposits, and lending have expanded significantly. At the same time, management highlighted AI as a core strategic priority, with AI already improving engineering productivity and supporting credit decisions across key markets. At last week I saw important news about the INSS in Brazil and I wanted to share a quick summary with you. Basically, the National Social Security Institute agencies were closed for in-person service on January 28, 29, and 30. Also, the Meu INSS app and the 135 phone line won't work from the night of the 27th until February 1st. Why? Because Dataprev is doing a big update to the systems to make them more secure and efficient. As someone interested in technology, I think turning off everything for days is a bit outdated. Usually, big companies use a strategy called Canary Releases to avoid this kind of blackout. Here is how it works simply: You deploy the new version to a very small subset of your infrastructure. You then route only 5% to 10% of your users to the new version. You monitor the logs for errors. If everything looks good, you slowly increase the percentage until 100% of users are on the new version. It limits the blast radius. If there is a critical bug, only a small fraction of your users are affected. What do you think? Is it possible to update such a big system without turning it off?
