‘SNL’: Telenovela Star Inde Navarrette’s Product Placement Turns Poisonous

On Saturday Night Live, host Inde Navarrette and Marcello Hernández played two Spanish soap opera actors tasked with working a product placement into their scene, but end up getting each take wrong—dramatically so.

In "El Corazón Que No Siente," Selena (Navarrette) and Rodrigo (Hernández) are informed by their director (Kenan Thompson) that Sprite has paid for them to drink Sprite Cherry-Lime Habanero. Two of the company's reps, Shayna (Ashley Padilla) and Todd (Mikey Day) are on scene to see it through.

But things don't go to plan.

In take one, Rodrigo ultimately holds up the bottle, announcing that "only an obese pervert would drink this." He adds, "It's bad, but they paid for this."

In the next take, Selena hands him the bottle for him to take a sip, which he does—but cannot hide how badly it tastes, and calls it "poison."

This prompts Selena to try it herself. She too is disgusted, and spits it at him.

"How dare you spit in my face!" he reacts, slapping her. Selena falls dramatically over the sofa, in the opposite direction of his slap.

"Dios mio!" he exclaims. "The Sprite has made me hit a woman!"

Shayna then loses her cool and urges the actors to pretend like the drink doesn't taste bad, even though it does.

"We used A.I. to make it," she admits.

Selena then flops back over the sofa next to Rodrigo for take three, in which she reveals she is pregnant with the child of his evil twin brother. Rodrigo has a solution to ensure the child is not born: Sprite.

Selena is offended, and splashes him with the liquid, which burns and kills him.

When the scene ends, Todd reveals he actually likes how it turned out, causing Shayna to question him.

"I am not who you think I am. This whole time, I work for 'Siete Up,'" he says, taking off his button-up to reveal a green 7Up t-shirt. Everyone else looks on wide-eyed as the camera zooms in on them and dramatic music plays.
