What the ‘Dancing With the Stars’ cast is wearing for Halloween, from dueling Olafs to matching skeletons

Pasha Pashkov, left, is planning to be Olaf this Halloween. The only problem? So is Ezra Frech.

I spoke with Ezra Frech and Daniella Karagach about their "blade stand" and Tatyana Ali and Jan Ravnik about their "best performance yet." Maura Higgins told me she's gotten really close with "very kind human" Amber Glenn, and Connor Wood dished on fan support and being on his phone all the time. Then there were the dancers who talked about perfecting choreography, partner bonding and everything that goes into competing on the show week after week. I'm a huge fan of the show, and these details are charming and revealing — yet with Halloween on the horizon, I was most curious to know what everyone's being for Halloween — and so I asked.
Pasha Pashkov has no say in his Halloween costume this year. "My daughter Kiki is obsessed with Frozen. So she's going to be Elsa, Daniella's going to be Anna and I'm going to be Olaf," the dancer tells me.
"Daniella" is his wife and fellow Dancing With the Stars pro, Daniella Karagach, whose partner, Ezra Frech, will be serving up an Olaf vs. Olaf showdown.
Frech has bonded with the couple's 3-year-old and will be doing his own take on her favorite snowman. "He's gonna be Olaf because my daughter's Elsa," Karagach reveals after Dedication Night. "And my daughter loves him very much."
"I overnighted it," Frech tells me of the Frozen fit. "I don't know where we're going — are we going trick-or-treating? — or what we're doing, but I'll be Olaf, and she'll be Elsa." Will Kiki have two Olafs in tow? Or will Frech be getting a Sven getup delivered last minute instead?
The Ballas household will be a little less awkward this Halloween. "It was ghosts originally. Now we're all dressing up as skeletons," Mark says of the family costume he's lined up with his wife, singer BC Jean, and their son.
Ballas's partner, Maura Higgins, takes a wee bit different approach to the holiday. Invoking a familiar Mean Girls line: "It's the night where you can dress like a total slut, and nobody can say anything about it," she says with a laugh. "I'm more of that."
Comedian Connor Wood is no stranger to dressing up. In past episodes of his podcast with Brooke Averick, Wood has gone full-out as Voldemort, the Heat Miser from The Year Without a Santa Claus, Averick's cat Jonathan, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and more. But when speaking to Yahoo, he spills that he will "be keeping it chill" for this week's Horror Movie Night theme. His dance with pro partner Rylee Arnold will be inspired by the fictional horror character Annabelle, but Wood won't divulge many details. "I'm keeping it very subtle," he offers.
Savannah Banana Jackson Olson is planning his own big makeover, teasing that his hair will look different for the show. "I don't want to give away too much, but this is going to be the most outside-the-box thing we've done," he says. And he's really into what he's wearing. "I'm not going to take that outfit plus makeup off for a long time."
Tatyana Ali and Jan Ravnik are tight-lipped about their Halloween plans, both onstage and off. "I don't think we can say," Ravnik tells me when I ask about this week's show. When I clarify, "Oh, I mean just in life," Ali grins and offers a joke — "What life?" — referring to her busy schedule as a Dancing With the Stars contestant.
Fair. When your DWTS schedule already involves multiple costume changes and elaborate hair and makeup — all while squeezing in time to learn new dances — drumming up enthusiasm for a Halloween costume might feel a little overwhelming. But if there's one thing we know about this crew, it's that they never leave their followers hanging. Surely the guy with a "dead to me" list won't disappoint.
