Key Points

  • Mariah Carey is back for the Christmas season once again.

  • Previous "It's time" videos, which have heralded the season of "All I Want for Christmas Is You," have shown her transforming from a witch to Mrs. Claus, among other creative setups. This year took throws it back to a deep cut.

  • The popular tune could retake the record as the song with the most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 after Ella Langley's "Choosin' Texas" surpassed it this fall.

Mariah Carey has declared "It's time" once again.

The Grammy-winning songstress, whose 1994 holiday hit "All I Want for Christmas Is You" is regularly the most popular seasonal tune on the Billboard charts, released her annual video heralding the beginning of the holidays.

The video begins with Carey performing the song "Hermit," which was a cut from an album she wrote, produced, and performed as a background vocalist on in the mid-'90s. Released under the band name Chick as a collaboration with her friend Clarissa Dane, the album was titled Someone's Ugly Daughter. She didn't reveal her involvement until her 2020 memoir was released.

As "Hermit" wraps, the screen crashes into a winter wonderland, with Carey dressed appropriately and revealed to be the tree-topper on a Christmas tree. She sings in her signature whistle tone, "It's time," and "All I Want for Christmas Is You" begins.

Last year's video included a cameo from Billy Eichner as a disgruntled elf, while the year before saw her transform from Morticia Addams into her signature Mrs. Claus attire. In 2023, she quite literally defrosted, and in 2022 she trained for the season on an exercise bike.

Last year, "All I Want for Christmas Is You" became the single with the most weeks at No. 1 in Billboard Hot 100 history, eventually reaching 22 non-consecutive weeks at the top. Earlier this year, Ella Langley's unprecedented run on the charts with "Choosin' Texas" dethroned "Christmas," with the country tune now at 25 total weeks at the top.

In both 2024 and 2025, Carey's song spent four weeks at No. 1, so presumably she has a shot at retaking the crown... provided Langley doesn't build a further firewall in November.

Whatever the case, Christmas classics are certain to dominate radio play and streams now that Halloween is over. Other familiar favorites in regular rotation that often make it to Billboard's top 10 include "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" by Brenda Lee (which hit No. 1 in 2023), "Jingle Bell Rock" by Bobby Helms, and "Last Christmas" by Wham!
