Command Master Chief Carbone, a native of Akron, Ohio, enlisted in the United States Navy in January 1992. Upon completion of recruit basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois and Airman Apprenticeship School, he reported to his first command aboard the USS America (CV 66) where he was rated to Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handling). During his first tour he participated in Operations Deliberate Force, Restore Hope, Uphold Democracy and Southern Watch.
He also served aboard USS Nassau (LHA 4), USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) and completed tours as Flight Deck Leading Chief Petty Officer and Aircraft Handling Officer aboard USS Kearsarge (LHD 3), and as Command Master Chief, USS Jason Dunham (DDG 109).

His shore tours include Naval Air Station Brunswick, Maine and Naval Support Activity La Maddalena Sardinia, Italy. He served as the Brigade Master Chief at the United States Naval Academy, Command Master Chief of Naval Support Activity Washington, Command Master Chief, Naval District Washington and Command Master Chief for Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV).

In June 2024, he assumed duties as the Command Master Chief, United States Naval Academy.

Master Chief Carbone is a graduate of the Louis F Garland Fire Academy, Recruit Division Commander Course, U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 155-Gold) and Command Leadership, CMC/COB Course (Class 159).

His personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (nine awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards) and various unit and campaign awards. He is a recipient of the Navy & Marine Association Leadership Award and the United States Naval Academy Class of 1958, Admiral Charles R. Larson Ethical Leadership Excellence Award.
