Naval Academy Flying Squadron

Welcome!

What We Do

The Naval Academy Flight Team is a team of Midshipman who compete at the collegiate level in flying competitions with NIFA. Flying competitions consist of both air and ground events.

Midshipmen with their pilot’s license are able to compete in air events such as navigation, spot landings, and a message in a bottle drop.  Ground events allow midshipmen to show their knowledge of flight planning, calculations using an E6B flight computer, and aircraft recognition.

Placing at Regionals

The Naval Academy Flight Team placed 3rd at the 2024 Region X NIFA competition, qualifying for the National Competition in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The Flight Team also competes against West Point and the Coast Guard Academy in an Inter-Service Academy Competition in mid-April.

The team has a rich history of placing and competing at NIFA Nationals, and hopes to continue that in 2025 with your help!

Flight Team Making Headlines

The Naval Academy Flight Team also works to support the Brigade of Midshipmen by helping to raise morale.  During the week of the Army Navy Football game in  2022, the Flight team executed a prank mission at West Point. The team dropped leaflets and ping pong balls labeled “Go Navy Beat Army” over the West Point Cadets while the Cadets were in Formation. This “secret” mission garnered national attention from News Outlets like CNN and Fox News.
