Launched in late 2022, The Paper is Burke County's trusted source for in-depth, responsible, and non-partisan all local news and reporting. Since the publication of its first print and digital edition on Feb. 4, 2023, the quality, caliber and quantity of The Paper's local coverage has garnered national and statewide recognition.

The Paper has emerged as a proven community asset buy consistently providing interesting, original, useful, and entertaining local news.  In our first 17 months of continuous publication, we won 26 state journalism awards, two N.C. Society of Historian awards, five national awards and has  been the subject of articles in national and state publications.

Bringing this level of comprehensive all-local news is expensive. Reoccurring revenue only covers 65% of operational costs. Like nearly all successful community newspapers nationally, The Paper requires generous and continuous community support to thrive and grow.
